The Promised land - Herd Quitter Minute
zhlédnutí 1,1KPřed 12 hodinami
For years, Kit Pharo has been preaching about a better way to raise beef. Reduced labor, feed, and expense sounds like the promised land, but convincing ranchers to take that step is hard. We’re a lot like cows in that regard, a bit skeptical about the reality of the promised land.
Summer Home 2 - Herd Quitter Minute

Since we've been with PCC, we've seen a lot of interesting places and met a lot of good people. This week we helped haul some cattle to a remote back country cow camp.

Living in the mountains of Colorado, there is usually an opportunity to find pasture at higher elevation. We moved our first calf heifer pairs up to a new summer home.
Bull Turnout - Herd Quitter Minute
zhlédnutí 2KPřed 21 dnem
Our PCC Bulls take most of the work out of ranching. Their disposition is easy, they stay in great shape without help, and calving time is enjoyable. I would never go back to the way things were.
My Boss Is A Tyrant - Herd Quitter Minute

One of the biggest problems faced by cattlemen is that they are self-employed. They work for themselves, and there is always more work that needs done. They can't get a day off because their boss is a tyrant!
Neighbors Helping Neighbors

In days gone by, the ranching community did a lot of neighboring to tackle big jobs that require many hands. It takes time and effort to develop friendships with neighbors, but it's sure worth it.

How Ranchers Save Money - Herd Quitter Minute

Ranchers are notorious for "saving money" by buying a do-it-yourself project. My son Nathan is proving that he is truly a rancher at heart as he puts together his first ranch truck.
Grazing vs Feeding Hay
zhlédnutí 2KPřed měsícem
In our main cowherd, we've cut back from feeding hay for five months to only one month. The goal is 100% grazing with hay only for weather emergencies. That's the quickest way to cut costs and promote herd health. I'm not there yet, but headed in the right direction, and closer to my goal than I was last year.
Busy in Springtime - Herd Quitter Minute

Spring is a busy time on the farm and ranch. It’s easy to get bogged down with the work that never ends and forget that we are blessed to be a part of caring for God’s Creation.

It is too early to know for sure, but we think this bull may prove to be the BEST of the Daily Double sons. We have never seen another bull as masculine or as impressive at 18 months of age. He is out of a great EZ Come EZ Go daughter. José’s birth weight EPD is in the top 3% of the Angus breed. His $EN is also in the top 3% of the breed. Semen is only available in 1/4 cc straws. Now I just gotta convince my husband I need to buy one of your angus bulls 😃
✌
Those cows look good. Lot easier driving that side by side than riding horses. I have both.
Where and how, (quantity), do you buy the acv. Thanks
I picked up the ACV from Lifetime Ag in Fruita, CO. They bring it in from Steve Campbell at campbellsdailyapple.com in Idaho. It comes in a 275 gallon tote.
Never mind the coyotes. Run from the hippies!
Robert, M thinkin’ that better pasture you’re talkin’ ‘bout may be found in heaven😂! Be blessed!
✌
Nice looking bulls. Do you use multi-sire breeding? If so does that mean you have to DNA test calves for the registration ?
Yes we have to DNA test to determine sire.
Those heifers look good
What have you got against cattle handling facilities?
Sorry, it's not my ranch or my cattle. They choose to practice their cowboy craft.
@@PharoCattleCompany Thanks, I get it now. Love the herd quitter minute.
What you say is so true! We need more cooperation and goodwill i😮n this world. I look forward to your videos and keep them coming.
Nice looking Red cows!
Thank you for this video. You are so right. We should say their name out loud. Also I really enjoy your videos around Montrose. My son was a deputy sheriff there in Montrose County for years and is not over in the Delta Sherrffs office. We love coming up there.
Thanks. Stop by and see us sometime.

Hello, I work in the field of agriculture and am looking for work❤
I bought a rebuilt motor, had the transmission rebuilt, and did 95% of the work of changing them myself, on my old pickup. Since then I have had to have the rear end rebuilt, front end gone through, and it already needs a set of brakes. But any day now, I am going to start saving money.
We are slowly reducing our hay habit in the UP of Michigan! This year was a challenge with an early melt off. We average 120" inches of snow, but the cows are doing better each year!
North Dakota is not conducive to the types of grass that stockpiles well. Help!
Yes that's a problem in your country. It definitely costs more to keep a cow in ND. We keep a couple months of hay on hand and hope we don't have to feed it. Fescue works good anywhere, if they can get to it for the snow. Our PCC cows did fine on old dry brome, which is not known for stockpiling.
My family owned a very large ranch in Oklahoma, and we had a mix of blue stem, Bermuda, and fescue. We started seeing our more efficient cows when we started feeding only lick tubs, and culled accordingly. Hay from around Jan 1 til about the 10th of April. My ancestors always said a cow can bale it cheaper than we can
Look at what Gabe Brown and son are doing in Bismark, ND.

The world desperately needs more regen operators. I certainly agree with you Robert, it is truly noble work! Be blessed.
At times I get invited to events or sports games that I'm not interested in. The farm is a blessing at those times. Lol. "Ahh, nope, I can't make it that weekend. I have work to do"
Big boy.

Just wondering have you had much success with fly control using ACV? It’s spring now and the flies are coming back. What do you think about adding garlic to the ACV & Sea90.
I'm no authority on this. We don't have a lot of trouble with flies in the mountains. I would add the garlic to the salt and feed the ACV separate.
Ya but if you noticed the sign, they don't allow semis, having 38 1/2 years looking out the windshield of a 18 wheeler I won't stop, I don't care what they have. 🤠🌵
I don't blame you.

Inspirational address Jim - crystall clear on theory and solid in practice! The best I have seen on modern farm economics!
There is some Zebu blood in the Senepol breed. Some of the Senepol foundation herds from St. Croix have more Zebu influence than others. None of them have 20%. There were 153 Senepol cattle genotyped a few years ago and those particular animals showed a maximum of 10% Zebu. Another genotype of Senepol cattle from herds in Venezuela showed only about 2-5% Zebu influence.
I wish someone had short stout easy keeping Charolais bulls. Would pcc ever look into that breed?
Did you say "short, stout, easy keeping" and "Charolais" all in the same sentence? 🙂(jk) Seriously, it might take a few years, but there may be a cooperative producer up to the task. I won't ever give up calving-ease to go back there.
Where are you located? Got a guy doing Char on forage around ST Louis area.
Haha. I agree with calving ease. I can’t remember the last time I’ve pulled a calf and I’m ok with that. I know it would be a task but maybe it could be done. I’ve always liked my Charolais cows except for the fact that the fame of them is so big and I always try to keep back the smaller heifers. I’ve used a south poll from Greg Judy and been happy with the efficiency but I will try a pcc in the future

That sure is a good-looking bunch of pairs.
That’s hilarious I go to get togethers all the time and try to talk cattle with other cattle people but find myself on a whole different page .. my friends are conventional cattlemen and aren’t a whole lot of fun to talk cows with they are negative and it’s a waste of time to even bring up cattle talk ..

What’s up with this, it ain’t April or May yet? Be blessed!
Somebody has to raise calves for the spring sale. We are in a good spot here in Montrose. Usually pretty mild with early green-up. That was our first calf of 2024!

Does Mixing APV with salt kill all the Is beneficial microbes?
Was wanting to try this with my cow's. Raw or unpasturized APV is more expensive want it to be the most effective for them. Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks
I don't believe it does, but that's a question for Steve Campbell. steve@tailormadecattle.com
Robert, they say it ain't braggin' when it's true. See for youself what kinda condition those momma cows are in. In some circles they say seein' is believin'. Be blessed!
