It does not make sense that he has whitefly or mealybug in his orchard, they are both very easily controlled with natural enemies, and their presence indicates that there has been some form of disruption (Check impact of spinosad on natural enemies) Anagyrus sp. is a very aggressive parasitoid of mealybug. One application of soap to remove the sticky honey that attracts ants, who defend the whitefly instars against natural enemies, should help to allow natural enemies to find balance.

Thank you very much for your point of view and advice, very valuable coming from an organic citrus farmer who knows well what to do. The question is, in each place can be variations and the general indications from one place does not always works in another, it is needed follow similar strategies but different. In our case, “Riverside”, the pests Aonidiella and Ceratitis had been largely those which cause the highest management problems in the past years. The management did, one year treatment with parafine or vegetal oil against California red mite and tramps for fruit flies, with some use of Aphytis and pheromones tramps, in the last years we stop the yearly treatment because the main pest had been under control. However, 3 different species of white flies appear in riverside citrus areas since 2020, this destroyed the strategy used until know. The 3 new species of white flies surprised us, not because their aggressiveness but because of molasses and fumigines and because the live cicles are not the same. We went back to the treatments with oils and soaps. In another regions more in the north, had been appear Sudafrican Cotonet as imported pest, which cause a change in the strategies too. Thrips would be more problematics in regions as “Safor” or “Marina” but not in the “Riverside”, at the moment, although this is related with de organic matter and the cover that you would have in the field. Anyway, the scenario foresee with the globalization and the climate change will bring us a lot of surprises….
