Now Australia sees that replacing the Leopard 1 tanks in Abrams M1 and not going on the Leopard was a mistake. On paper the Abrams is a good tank, but typical of all US weapons it is a pure superiority tank. Then strong when supplies are rolling and your own armed forces are superior. But as soon as an equal or even superior opponent arrives on the battlefield and this own superiority is no longer given, then exactly the Abrams reveals its weaknesses. The main weakness of the Abrams in contrast to many other tanks but especially the Leopard 2 is the drinkable gas turbine. Yes, it is cheap, but it destroys more than twice as much fuel, shines like a Christmas tree in terms of heat and cannot even cross rivers. Well .. there are not that many rivers in Australia, but the lack of range and the resulting reduced assertiveness devalue the weapon system massively. The cannon is very good, but it also comes from Germany. Buying cheap isn't always the best decision.
