To choose nickel or silver-plated keys?
Where I live one must be rich to purchase all these clarinets, a whole year of work at least, sad
Thank you so much
Oh wow this clarinet sounds really gorgeous!! Such beautiful rich tone. High notes sound real good too!! I've got a Jupiter clarinet which my hubby and I bought about 15 years ago. I've recently made some changes to it, buying a new Yamaha 4C mouthpiece and a Rovner ligature which I have to say are most definitely a winning combination, producing a seriously rich, mellow tone which has completely blown me away!! I had a lovely play tonight, the clarinet is such a real joy to play!! I might upgrade to either a Yamaha, a Backun or a Jupiter 700SQ. So lovely to be playing my clarinet again after a long break, and I'm enjoying it more than ever!! Thank you so much for sharing your highly informative review. One thing that appeals to me about the Backun and also the Yamaha 255 is that they both have an adjustable thumb rest and also a ring to hook a neck strap onto. I use a neck strap, and that would be incredibly helpful. To have an adjustable thumb rest would be very good too, making playing more comfortable. I will keep you posted about how I get on!! God bless you hun, and I look forward to seeing more of your wonderful videos very soon!!🤩
I have a clarinet from 1903 which difference he got with the Modern you handle li your video?
Thanks. Amazing
Very nice , I played clarinet through middle and hs , was never in orchestra band though due do sports schedule etc . But I happen to find a decent bundy selmer at a garage sale and picked it up . Little dinged up but overall functional , need to order some reeds . Thanks for the vid ✌️
wait how do you get that high c without getting the hollow noise. I seem to be doing something wrong as I can never get that high c to come out consistently.
Thank you so much my teacher made it confusing 😂😂😂😂
My daughter just inherited her Great Grandfather’s clarinet that hasn’t been played in over 30+ years and this is very helpful, thank you!!
Returning to clarinet in my 50's after not playing it since college. This is super helpful, and your explanations are excellent! I'm only now realizing that I was using less efficient fingerings for some of the notes when playing the chromatic scale in my youth (although I got so used to playing it the way that I did, that I was actually super fast at it!). I'm going to correct my fingerings with your suggestions this time around to make things easier for myself as I'm "re-learning" the instrument. Thanks for this!
Nice and wise tips, thanks. But lately I'm having trouble with mould on my clarinets, even a few days closed in the case and there's mould on them. What's better to clean and to avoid mould? The coconut oil tip is a good one, does it really have anti-bacterial properties?
Also I would have asked from you what do you think about MoBa backun barrels? Cause I see Rice probably Delrin barrel at your clarinet, which is also dark. But in your opinion how these two barrels are distinguished?
Hello lady! Nice vid. How do you think which ligatures has darker and rounder, more focused sound these Daniel's or vandoren klassik string and vandoren leather one?
It's okay to put the ligature on first, but you have to be careful not to scratch or dent any part of the mouthpiece that the reed contacts... the table, rails, and tip facing. If your ligature scratches or dents any of these parts of the mouthpiece, you will have to buy a new mouthpiece if the scratch or dent prevents the reed from having a perfect seal. Even new mouthpieces will have to be refaced (by an expert) sometimes because of a factory defect in the table, rails, or facing. This is the reason teachers say to put the reed on first... so you don't damage the mouthpiece by scratching it with the ligature. I've always had the habit of putting the ligature on first, but I'm extremely careful to not scratch or dent the mouthpiece. I place and hold the ligature against the top of the mouthpiece so that the ligature doesn't touch the table, rails, or facing, while I slide in the reed. If you have a soft type ligature, you don't have this worry, but soft type ligatures aren't the best ligatures unless you have a bright sounding mouthpiece or bright sounding reeds.
How many bpm s are this?
Please can someone advise if the tip opening of the b45 13 series is the same as the b45 traditional mouthpiece. Thanks
when I got my bass clarinet it smelled light and tasted light mold
Is the Backun clarinet available within the EU?
Fantastic idea!! Thank you!!
Literally 0 help
This helped me so much now my band teacher wants me to play a solo at our concert now🤣
I just pulled my clarinet out from the closet, it's been about 6years since I touched, maybe more so it needs a good cleaning! Thx
THANK YOU KATINA WE LOVE YOUU
Could you show a fingering chart of the scale? I tried it so many timed and it sounded right to me, but going down the scale was different than it was going up

Hi why bb note is so airy? Can we do something about that?
I learned this on guitar and had a pleasant surprise when i saw this, very nice tutorial, easy to follow, picked this up in about 5 minutes.
Excellent review.
Very detailed and well spoken 👍
The best way to test a clarinet product is playing pianissimo and legato...all products can sound loudly
Have you ever tried the Ridenour clarinets? They are hard rubber!
Thanks for this wonderful, informative video! I started on the soprano clarinet, but in 7th grade I added the bass clarinet to my musical "portfolio" and enjoyed playing it and continued to play both (although taking up double bass caused this stringed instrument to occupy more of my time until it was essentially my "primary" instrument). Fast forward some 50 years, and after retiring, I decided to "get back into" music in earnest, but concentrated on brass, which was new to me. I took out my clarinet again, and then expanded on it, getting an Albert system soprano clarinet (which requires a few different fingerings), and then a "contra-alto" clarinet, which makes me want to say "nyah-nyah" to the bass clarinet players, but of course I still get "humbled" by the contrabass clarinet, in which case I resort to playing one of my tubas. Seriously, I enjoyed playing the bass clarinet, and in addition my best friend sat next to me playing bassoon while his wonderful older sister was on the other side of me playing the school's other bass clarinet. The bass clarinet I played didn't have a supporting rod at the bottom, and frankly I can't recall if I held it up (maybe with a strap) or rested it on the floor. It only went down to the written Eb, but I found that if I put the cover of the mouthpiece into the bell, it would sound a written D instead when that "5th key" was pressed. Therefore, I was amazed to learn in your video that some instruments are capable of playing down to a WRITTEN C (sounding Bb)--reminding me of the low-C extension that I sometimes wish I had on my double bass. (FWIW, I wish my contra-alto could play a low concert F--I guess I'll have to try the trick with the mouthpiece cover!) When I got my contra-alto clarinet, I quickly realized that using the octave key results in the other keys playing the same pitches as the lower range of the soprano instrument, due to the combination of the octave key actually raising the pitch by a 12th, which is precisely the difference between the Eb and the Bb of the octave above. I've also noticed that when the ring finger of the right hand presses on the appropriate key while the octave key is also pressed, the hole on the neck is closed but another opens on the upper joint--I can't recall this happening on the bass clarinet, but I assume something similar would also happen on the contrabass instrument. One suggestion--considering that your video compares two instruments both of which are pitched in Bb, it seems a bit silly to keep referring to the smaller instrument as "the Bb clarinet" rather than simply calling it the "soprano clarinet". I realize the soprano instrument is available in other pitches, but I'm quite certain Bb is the "default" pitch for this instrument, and is generally assumed, especially after you've mentioned Bb as the pitch of the instrument you had at hand near the beginning of your video.
you should review the new Dickerson bass clarinet resonator Ligature - I can send you one if you like
You should review the new Dickerson resonator Ligature - send me some info and I will send you one for review on CZcams
Thanks I needed this for honor band practice:)
Can you teach how to play river flows in you
Thank you! Please, more bass clarinet!
I play Bb clarinet and I would love to double bass clarinet, especially since I saw Backun is going to release an affordable bass clarinet soon made of the same material of their Alpha Bb clarinet. I love the bass clarinet sound more than the tenor sax sound, so I really hope I can play it one day.
This isn't even helpful bruh
The only way

What is the hole in the top key for? Tuning? Thanks.
I've returned to playing the clarinet after almost 40 years of NOT playing! I cannot remember a single note despite once being a high level player! This is a great tutorial to get back into it! Watched several times and even tried harmony playing with you! :D
It’s kinda easier than other tutorials but I wish u would use sheet music or letters
Thank you! My son is s beginner clarinet player- so easy to follow- THANK YOU!
