Many people are unaware that retired police dogs do not receive financial support in their retirement from the force they served with, meaning the responsibility for their care and vet bills fall solely to their ex-handler or new owner. Unable to get pet insurance due to their working life, many are left with ongoing vet bills which can amount to thousands. The Thin Blue Paw Foundation provides much needed financial support to these unsung canine heroes and their owners to enable them to have a long and happy retirement. Lifesaver Award 2022 - PC Linda McBride and Retired Police Dog Luna from Police Scotland
We’re thrilled that retired police dog Luna has been named winner of the Lifesaver Award after saving 38 lives during her eight-year career with PC Linda McBride. The Police Scotland pair were excellent at tracking, saving the lives of vulnerable missing people, elderly people, suicidal individuals and victims of crime. Ten-year-old German Shepherd Luna has now retired but will never be forgotten by the people she helped.

In my 6 years in the police I always remember being told : Assume nothing, Believe nothing, and Check everything. I read the terms and conditions on the animal friends policy I was about to take out detailed in the (IPID) INSURANCE PRODUCT INFORMATION DOCUMENT, and then I seen the huge list of exemptions from insurance in comparison to others. It was awful, if your dog / cat is over 8/10 years of age you need to pay 35% of the vet fee . If your dog or cat is lost and it’s over 8 years of age they will refund 25% of the original cost of the animal if you can prove it. Same applies if the animal dies. (These are only a few) Support charities like this but in no way believe that this company who partnered is the best insurance option for your k9 out there.
Hug a dog to make yourself look popular. Police dogs are regularly put down if they don't pass.
