Electric bike riding in Colorado! Velotric Summit 1 on and off road
Out for a morning ride on some of the roads and trails west of Boulder Colorado! Up the dirt road past Gross reservoir, over the top of Flagstaff mountain down to just above Boulder, back up Flagstaff and through Walker Ranch single track back to the start. It made for a great ride over some very fun terrain!

    So I added a stem rise too, problem is they don't have a headlight hole to screw the headlight on. And the catch is if you don't have the headlight on/connected the brake light will only light up if you brake, it won't be lit for evening or night rides. Only having the headlight connected will activate the rear light in any way other than when braking. Does anybody have any workarounds for this???

      Hello and thanks for watching! It sounds like what you have purchased is correct. Your cassette will fit as long as it is a Shimano compatible unit. I'm sure you know this but make sure the splines on the hub and cassette are lined up correctly, one spline is slightly wider than the others and needs to be in the correct spot for it to go onto the hub.. I am running the stock 44t front chainring. Your chain issue might be that you have one of the big wheel Altus derailleurs, I'm running a replacement Deore unit that has smaller chain wheels. You may need to add a few more links if this is the case. Ride safe!

    I just got my Velotric Summit and. while I like aspects of the bike, I find it is not good at all climbing hills. It seems like the motor goes into a low power mode after only a few seconds of climbing and it becomes as difficult as a regular non-e mountain bike - even in the highest assist (Boost 5). Was that your experience before you made the gearing changes? Thanks.

    • @lifebehindbarz60
      @lifebehindbarz60 Před 20 dny

      Hello, you are the second person that has told me that. That has not been the case with my bike. I do have to go to pas 3, 4 or 5 in boost to get good climbing power but don't have any power loss or overheating issues like some have reported. The Summit is not my most powerful 750w hub drive bike, but it climbs well for me. I'd suggest contacting Velotric and seeing what can be done to improve your situation. This is just another example of the wide performance range of ebikes (all brands and models). I can have two of the exact same bikes and they will perform differently from each other.

      @lifebehindbarz60 Před 20 dny

      Hello, that's interesting, I have never got any sort of error code with this bike. I've done sustained 30 minute steep climbs and all I've noticed is that the motor will get a little louder under the heavy load. I try hard to stay in pas 3 or 4 (boost) and only use level 5 in climbing emergencies.... maybe that is the difference? It is funny how motors vary so much from bike to bike. I've noticed that on many of the ebikes I've had, both hub motors and mid drives. Cheers

    • @tomolryify
      @tomolryify Před 8 dny

      I have to echo that comment. I haven't had the overheat issue, but I find my Summit doesn't have much power on hills - it's not much different than riding a regular MTB as the motor only makes up for the extra weight - and this is after updating the chainring and cassette (40T and 8-11-40T) . Yours seems to perform much better. I have a support ticket open, but all they've said is they will update the firmware some day. Regretting my purchase at this point.

      @@tomolryify Hi guys, I recently experienced just what you both are talking about. The power of the bike dropped off significantly during a ride, to the point where it was feeling like a normal non ebike. I rode for several miles like this then turned it off and had a drink and snack. When I turned it back on it was better but still not where it should be. Battery was at 90% and the motor was not hot. It seemed very strange because I was just starting into my ride and had been taking it easy. There was only one point in the ride where the bike felt "normal" to me, otherwise it felt underpowered. I'll get it out on the trails again this weekend and see how it is. Firmware update huh? I'll have to message the company and see what I can find out. I love the physical characteristics of the bike as it sits now. If this becomes an ongoing issue I'll be switching the controller and motor over to a Bafang system. Do you have any difficulty installing the battery? Do you have any special technic to get the battery into its socket and securely latched. It’s seems like an unnatural battle each and every time that I reinstall it and seems to place excessive pressures on the receptacle connector. I follow the described manufacturer instructions. But to have to roughly slam and jam the battery into receptacle seems so unnatural and like it will eventually damage the battery connector or receptacle. On my RadRover the battery easily slips into socket and securely latches with minimal effort. Requiring no unnatural or abrupt effort.

    • @lifebehindbarz60
      @lifebehindbarz60 Před 20 dny

      I know exactly what you are saying, it really seemed like I was doing something wrong at first when I tried to install the battery. I now gently hook the bottom in place, slide the battery at the top as far as it will go to the side, then smack the side of it with the palm of my hand to seat it. you can hear the click when you do this but I always pull at the battery to make sure it is locked in place. This is honestly the only thing I don't like about the bike, I really wish they would have put the on / off switch where you weren't required to remove the battery to get to it. I should probably try a little silicone grease on the receptacle and latch to see if it makes things any easier. Cheers

    Hallo, super Video extrem spannend. Eine Frage ist der Motor original oder wurde die Leistung optimiert? Das ist ja unglaublich wo du damit hoch kommst. Ich glaube ich werde mir auch eins bestellen 👌noch eine technische Frage, Kann man die Schiebehilfe per Drehgriff auf 6 km/h einstellen. Weil hier in Deutschland ist es nur bis 6 km/ erlaubt.

      Hello, thanks for watching! My Cyrusher Ranger is my best climbing bike on the back trails. It is completely stock in regards to the motor and controller. There is an updated / upgraded controller available for purchase now but I have not installed it. I have upgraded the forks, changed the gearing and added larger brakes. All my mods are shown in a video I posted last year. If you subscribe or go to my website ( Lifebehindbarz60.com ) you can see all my Ranger videos and they should answer your questions. Cheers

      @@1hunter726 Thanks for watching! I have been told by people that have purchased and installed the new controller that it does boost the power a bit. It also comes with a pigtail for a wired rear light. If you buy a Ranger today it should have the new controller already so you won't need to purchase it separately. My is just the first gen Ranger so it has the old controller. Cheers

    • @lifebehindbarz60
      @lifebehindbarz60 Před 25 dny

      @@PapaJoe224 Hello, thank you very much! My favorite bike is still my Cyrusher Ranger. It has more power, a 52v battery, fat tires which make it a true 4 season bike and allow you to ride though rocky / sandy conditions much easier. studded snow tires allow you to ride in very snowy and icy conditions. It is easier to ride up long sustained climbs. Full suspension is nice (but I do love a well designed hard tail bike too). I have put close to 2k miles on my Ranger in the dirt and on rocky back roads and it has never let me down. There are some mods that in my opinion are immediately necessary, replacing the forks with something better and changing out the gearing for lower gear ratios. The Summit handles very well and weighs about 15lbs less. You still need to swap the forks for something nicer. The Summit looks more like a traditional mtn bike which can be nice when trying to blend in and not stick out as an ebiker. In the end the price will be about the same for both bikes (after necessary mods are done). Something else to keep in mind is that the Ranger just feels like a much bigger bike, almost motorcycle like when it comes to its size. Hope that all makes some sense, there are now retail shops for both bikes in the US, if you happen to be close to one I'd suggest you take the bikes out for a test ride! Cheers

I think this video also answers any questions people might have about Mid Drive v Hub Drive motors ! As long as you spend that little bit extra on a Hub bike its just as capable on trails that are this testing against a Mid Drive ,and you can have just as much of a fun ride too ha! :) One thing that is as amazing as the bike is that beautiful blue sky ! wow ! :)

Some unrestored buildings, dirt streets, only typical small town stores, etc, make it a pretty cool place to live.
