Poet and Trans Activist Bay Davis’ Powerful Words For Those Who “Know Grief By His First Name”
Bay’s spoken word performance opened the closing plenary of our #MakeGoodFamous Summit which announced Dwyane Wade as our Elevate Prize Catalyst Award winner and launched his new Translatable initiative.
We’re honored to share this poem with you all. Thank you, Bay.
ABOUT THE MAKE GOOD FAMOUS SUMMIT:
The Make Good Famous Summit is an annual convening that brings forth some of the most innovative cross-sector minds to positively disrupt the impact landscape and to be a place of connection. Our goal is to spark fresh ideas by challenging conventional thinking, fostering an inclusive and loving community, sparking innovation, and inspiring people to take action to ‘do good’ in their own communities.
In 2024, we asked the question: In this era of extreme divisiveness, how can we harness the power of culture to bring us together and forge community?

Awfully in love with this 💛 got goosebumps all over
It takes intellect to understand this poem and it’s message & appreciate it. Something that a lot of people that want to be blind watching this video don’t have
@@Lea-Arthur-Faure or maybe they are just regular people who don’t like the poem. CZcams recommends and pushes shite like this because it aligns with the agenda they are trying to push. A of people are tired of this type of content being pushed on them. Imagine if they started pushing right wing Christian content on people who frequently watch left leaning videos. They would probably get annoyed by it after a while.
Wtf is wrong w/our society?
Interesting. Why "woman" and not "person" Seems antagonizing to women. Or is that the quiet part that no one wants to admit?
I wonder why he’s always the most powerful woman in a room 😂. Use the men’s washroom please sir.
A lot of the people in these comments need to reevaluate their relationship with God and need to do some heavy self reflection. How dare you spit on someone else's truth. Just because it is not your path, doesn't mean that it is necessarily the wrong path, there are multiple roads that lead to God and there are just as many that lead people to peace. This world has truly fallen, but it is not because of the reasons many of you think. It is not because of the diversity, nor the divergence of paths among people themselves, no it is because we live in a world of closed minded, hateful, and judgemental people who will do everything in their power to break down another human being and are so obsessed with one facet of a person that they can not, and will not see anything else about them. You should be truly ashamed to call yourself a follower of god if all you reflect and give out to others is hate and judgement. Jesus hated hypocrisy more than anything.
Jesus hated gays
You should read the bible…
@@thebigvoice7257 maybe you should reread your own. I read every day and that is exactly how I can confidently stand by my word. Luke 6:37 says " Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn and you will not be condemned. Forgive snd you will be forgiven." Instead of playing god and telling others what they should be doing with their lives, or how to be the best version of themselves, perhaps we should focus on our own lives first. Once again, there are many paths that lead to God. And while I understand that some people may not fundamentally agree with the choices others make for themselves, we often seem to forget that we don't have to. God makes ways where there are none and if we were all fated to walk the same path there would be no point to individuality or a distinction/ difference between people as a whole. However, as "Christians" since that's what so many of you claim to be, we ARE supposed to lead with compassion, serve with grace and understanding, and above all treat one another as if we are the children of the most high God. You're own personal walk may not allow you to agree with this view, and that is you're right if you so choose, I can only pray that somewhere along the line you come to realize for yourself that this is the true meaning of what our role is as worshipers of God. Have a blessed one. 🙏🏽
@@Shea.Coco03 Your misjudgment with Luke 6:37 already told me enough. Read the whole scripture about judgement… Don’t just read the do not judge and mix that in with other scriptures. You don’t understand the bible that you read. I’m not even going to entertain your nonsense. If the bible only says do not judge and you will not be judged, it’s contradicting.
@@thebigvoice7257 The only nonsense I see is you're logic, God judges all. If you are not God then what makes you qualified to judge another person when you yourself are an imperfect human being? If you think yourself exempt from humanity, then you are surely mistaken. Last I checked there was only one immortal who came to earth in human flesh, and it definitely wasn't you. Now with that in mind I have said my peace and I'm good with that. I refuse to entertain ignorance and considering that I, nor anyone else praise god, do not receive my salvation through you; your opinion is irrelevant.

You are generations!Generations that end with you, cause you ain’t having a child of your own. You are strong! Often the strongest woman in the room! @@Khokhol1499 well as a member of the trans community my question to you is what does it have to do with you? Number two who are you to judge number 3 if they are trans will it stop you from getting a paycheck will it stop you from thriving number four you know blessed will that individual does not identify as he and I noticed that you put emphasis on he because you think you're doing some kind of a reveal and you're trying to do all you can to go against what they identify as. You know exactly what you're doing and I think that is condescending but as far as what they did with their body that is something that does not concern you after all it's not your body. Now I suggest that you go and pick up a book or do some research on how a person becomes transgender and what compel them to live in the truth as opposed to sending your bias hate. I tell you some of y'all are so mean-hearted a negative but of course knowing you people you won't. Oh and by the way you're not funny. You're actually pretty sad intolerant and judgemental

Most powerful woman in the room is an understatement when you have xy chromosomes
Those those estrogen hormones 💉 must be a low dosage based off the sound of that voice!
This is a joke and any real woman is not standing with this bullshit
Talking about a real woman if you were a real woman then you would not be messed up about the duplicate but that's all black people talk about who's gay who's trans who's sleeping with who that is a topic of black people's conversation day in and day out which is why you're not evolving any. And if you don't understand how someone is trans I suggest you go get a book and educate yourself as to why a person is trans or gay or lesbian or any of those things. Study study study stop running your mouth about something that you don't understand. And remember just because you feel that way doesn't necessarily mean that other people feel that way. But since you do feel that way go build your platform and stand your ass on stage indoor poem. Because what I see is this young lady on stage doing her thing and doing it with passion. HATER!!!
And no she is not biologically a woman but yes she is a woman identified and beautifully so. Your opinion don't mean Jack.

@@TheNormExperience seems like you’re the one who’s mad. I can google poetry as well 🐑
Google? Seriously? I’m not allowed to read books? Before Ginsberg my favorite was Pablo Neruda, prior to that was Walt Whitman, and before that e.e. Cummings.
