In the next game the Rangers and Islanders played, Cairns' injury was healed and he was able to fight. Cairns made McCarthy pay for his antics by hammering him.

Chris Chelios is right - Gary Bettman is a pain in the neck. Just look at the Arizona Coyotes mess. Despite repeated failures, the little man continues to be stubborn and fights tooth and nail to keep the team in Arizona. What if the NHL had headquartered in Montreal or Toronto instead of New York...and found a Canadian that understands and loves hockey to help build the league? Instead of expanding all over the Southern US markets - they could have made the existing franchises healthy and expanded into European cities (NHL Europe) where they actually have snow and a traditional connection to hockey Instead they went all in for expansion franchise fees and pushing arena building everywhere. NHL went woke and pushes BLM racism like all the other leagues and people are losing interest in it now. The NHL is overpriced for any fan base. It's turned hockey into golf crowd of snobs that never played the game.
