XJ Project - Smittybilt XRC rear bumper upgrade
I ran into the same issue with the cover. What we did is wrapped it around as far as we could. Then I took long zip ties and went around the two ends. Hasn’t blown off Thank God!
You have given me a few ideas to contemplate. Some sort of grommet and hook set up, or a quick connect buckle sewn on, like the type on a hiking pack…thank you for the inspiration. I’ll let you know what comes of it.
@@mreclectic3054 Absolutely! Keep me posted how it turns out. God bless you and yours In Jesus Name my friend!
Well done!
Hi do you have any part numbers or links for the grommet and other parts used? Love this idea, gonna do it myself
Hose widths would be great!
i swear my rear has never worked. will retrofit this soon.
Great video. Thank you! I ordered my Smittybilt bumper/tire carrier in September 2023 and it arrived last week on May 2, 2024 around 8 months later. Will install it on May 15th. Getting the old bumper and hitch off is the hardest part, because of the rust. I will spray the heck out of the bolts with penetrating oil and let it soak for a week. Hopefully that will make it easier to get the bolts out without breaking them. Wish me luck. Fingers crossed.🤞👌🙂😂
All the best!
Fuel filter?
What an idiot
Don’t listen to that dude, you aren’t a professional you are just making an informational video, and you did that!
Needed to see long prongs removed
Thanks for the vid, wondered how well those worked. Also a note; For your own safety, don't assume that mask is going to protect you from chemical gasses from melting plastics. It's a dust mast (pleated paper filter) not a respirator (carbon filter cartriges).
Thanks for the advice. The mask I have has a chemical filter in it, intended for welding, soldering etc., recommend by the Miller welding company.
Well done! Praise Jesus Always!
I have one with an issue that a red triangle comes up with low voltage on the AC output. Does it just need charging or its faulty?
I have not had that issue, but I also have not drained the battery very low, around 30% is lowest I've had it I believe. I recently ran a heat gun off of it, which is the most draw I've put it through...it did it, but fan speed on the gun was noticeably reduced, and readout indicated it would only run it for 15 minutes (I used it for about 3). But still no low voltage issues. Try charging it, but if that doesn't work, you may have got a lemon.
I thought the days of holding a shitty camera and narrating through various poorly angled shots of nearly no actual instruction justifying the video were over. I was incorrect.
Thank you for the feedback, I'll try to do better.
Where did you buy and how much?
I got this rear bumper from Amazon for $477. Vicious off-road is another good site to check.
2002 Durango same mt bracket
Hi dude 2002 has the same electronics hook up higher amp draw
Okay a 2002. What? Durango if so, which engine and what amper does the alternator? Thank you for the Intel
Theres a steering wheel adjuster on the stock linkage, you may have just happened to clock the shaft correctly on reinstallation. You typically wouldnt turn the steering wheel once disconnected from the gear box but as long as you dont have a clockspring you would be fine
Great trip with the Hankster Crankster club! Glad you made it home without incident! Fun to watch the repair.
My wife bent the brake pedal on our old Cherokee trying to come to a stop on the freeway because the brake booster had all of a sudden gone out. I bought a new master cylinder initially thinking that was the problem, luckily our mechanic friend pointed me in the right direction
Had to replace the control arms a few weeks ago on our 97 grand Cherokee, seems like our old jeeps just want to die 😂
The unfortunate aspect of older rigs. But, I’d rather work on something old and more mechanical than the newer electronic stuff.
“Houston we have a problem”😂
😝

Good job
Thanks
Intermittent wipers in your XJ are controlled by an " intermittent control module" located under the drivers side dash and attached with a Velcro patch.
Thank you for the information. It has taken me a minute to address the issue, partly because I had a hard time finding the part. The OE version of the module is no longer available, and looking for an alternative part online yielded nothing, surprisingly. After that I kind of learned to deal with it. But recently go married, and the wife has driven it a few times in the rain and made it clear how frustrating it was for her, not knowing or really wanting to learn the nuances of how to get by as I had been. So I was motivated to find a solution. A forum thread addressing the module said there were certain GM cars that had a compatible module, (very broad and therefore not very helpful), and a few years of grand Cherokee. This was more helpful, but still lacked specifics. Some people said they had done the “swap,” and even showed blurry pics, but did not specify the year of the doner vehicle or part number. Today I went to the salvage yard where they had 4 early model XJ’s like mine. The module was gone in all of them. But there were around 20 zjs, so I started looking through them. Found a module that looked like a match to the blurry forum pic in a ‘95. Ran me $8.50. Put it in soon as I got home, and voilà! Full functioning wipers and washer fluid. If not for your suggestion, I would have replaced the multifunction lever and been chasing wiring needlessly for who knows how long. You saved me a bunch of time and $, thanks again.
1995 Chevy impala alternator?
what a journey this video was, I am so glad I watched it! My story is a little similar but I am having undervolting problems, not the overvolting like you were having. I am putting out about 9-10 volts on the gauge. My xj is a 1996 and I had the post style alternator on it and I switched to the 2 prong plug style like the later models have and I chose an alternator from a 2002 Durango. I am really hoping that this external regulator is going to solve my problems. I first thought that my new alternator was internally regulated but further inspection I saw that it is actually externally regulated so I am assuming that the computer is confused as to what is going on and I'm thinking I can just bypass the regulator in the pcm and add the same external regulator that you have. Let me know what you think!
I believe the externally regulated alternator started being used in the '91 or '92 model year. It seems those upgrading after that change occurred have had success. I saw one other CZcamsr upgrade the alternator on his '89, which is the same as mine, but he didn't mention how he got it to regulate. I posted an update video just a few hours ago...this upgrade ultimately did not work, that video goes over the details. Consensus is that going from internal to external regulation was far more complicated than just adding an independent ex-regulator. That said, whereas your jeep already has an externally regulated system, the second ex-regulator I tried could work well for you. I say that because it came with a "field replacement module," which you may recall from the vid, the purpose of which is to trick your pcm into thinking it's still hooked up, when you have bypassed it using the independent ex-regulator, as I think you are planning to do. Instructions indicate it keeps the battery warning light off on your dash panel.
Do they make accessories for a light bar on that rack? Awesome video brother.
Thanks for the kind words. I don't know if EAG makes any light bar specific attachments, but many of the light bars I have looked into have mounting hardware. I would just verify the hardware is for the correct size tube, you may even be able to search for the light bar based on the tube attachment kit with it.
Those look like skoal bandits. Dip!, chewing tobacco. Somebody was stashed them there instead of throwing Them out the window

Excellent job and well explained. This video was the deciding factor for me. Greatly appreciated!
Amazing!!!! Wish I could play it too. Love chords!
And your didn't have to take the fender off....
Nice video! Very informative
macam mana nak buat?
I did not make the bumper. I purchased it, info linked in the description.
I am still having this issue, do you know where I can buy the same gas tank?
Hi I needed to replace my petcock valve on my Honda xr100 2003 but the gas tank bolts wouldn’t come loose and ended up rounding the bolts so now I have to buy a new gas tank and can’t find them any where. Where did you guy your gas tank
Still have it!
Nice 👏🏽
Fender
your shackles will hit the bracket, that will not work properly, replace those shackles for longer ones, or cut the last 2 holes to make the shackle move free
You are correct, they were bottoming out on the bracket. I moved them back one more hole and they now clear the back of the bracket and its riding much better. Thanks.
I remember that day.......it took like 3 hours to do everything lolololol
You mean it took 3 hours longer than it would have because I was rolling around the garage floor with a broken rib, right?!
Ah finally you posted this I have been waiting long time :) Is very nice!!!
It was worse than I remembered, how about you?
@@mreclectic3054 Yes worse:( Even though i had a front row seat seeing the footage is just like wow thats going to take more than a hour lol
Poor sap, those are rough findings.
I Will be following this project. Love xjs
Hey pal, just a word of advice you might have to get a mic on your shirt or talk REALLY LOUD i can barely here ya, good video though.
On my TV I have the same problem, but on my mobile devices and computer it sounds totally fine...not sure why it's different projection between devices. I plan to get a better mic one day, but that's down the road a bit. Thanks for the comment!
Awesome buddy😃
