That size pig often make it difficult & are good at getting dogs that don't think. Using a rifle with a scope was usually good, once used to it. With both eyes open, what's happening with the dogs can be seen and with practice just as fast or better than with open sights. Wet weather precautions need taking. Most dogs want to dive in after a shot, and that's when they have their guard down and the pig has a grievance to settle. The scope shows what's happening better when standing off. And a scope is good for that slippery one sneaking away at 200m only providing glimpses, it's usually the boar.
