HOW TO: Install a KTM 690 SMC R windshield
I use this bike for commuting on the highway and therefore wanted a bit more comfort and less wind bufferting.
The windshield was easy to install and works well.

    For anyone watching this you don’t need to mark the location for the holes. They are marked on the backside already from the factory. Just drill a small hole from the backside using the marks then enlarge from the front. The instructions are on KTMs webpage.

    What line on the carb are you running fuel through? I’m having a problem on mine and I changed the fuel line and took fuel filter out and it ran for a couple minutes idling then it cut off and no fuel was in the fuel line… idk what it is?? At first it wouldn’t start with the fuel filter that’s why I took it off to begin with. Do I need a bigger fuel line or is something else happening?

      There is noticably less wind buffeting on the motorway. So a more comfortable ride above 100 km/h. There is no HP gain.

      It depends where you are from. Im from Denmark and there are a number of online stores that have parts available. I dont know if they ship international. You could try this one. www.louis-moto.com/en/bike-database/suzuki-gs-650-g-katana/gs650g/0129?back=&categoryKey=ROOT&ipp=48&page=2&sort=recommendation&viewMode=grid

    Tap the bowl with the end of your screwdriver handle see if you can free up the needle and seat and stop that leak. The only way it can leak out of there is if the needle is open letting fuel run right through

      @@captaincph3954what about gear oil or does the engine and transmission use the same oil?

    • @captaincph3954
      @captaincph3954 Před 2 měsíci

      According to the manual you should use SAE 90 hypoid gear oil for the transmission and four stroke motor oil (SAE 10W-40) for the engine.

      @@versacejudo-chop1881 I think I am having the same issue, the little metal piece under the white valve got bent all out of wack on me. Do you have any pictures how its supposed to look? Im talking about a ring looking metal piece that sits behind the white valve with the 2 holes. Thanks for any help

    • @Dumbeddownbymedia
      @Dumbeddownbymedia Před 2 lety

      @@kylebissell9612 before disassembling the petcock completely, remove diaphragm side 1st. Remove the diaphragm and you should see the metal spring through the hole where the small o-ring seats. While turning the petcock position lever, you should see the tip of the spring come up through the hole in the prime position, and it goes back down in the run and reserve positions. My 81 Suzuki GS650G ran like crap until I fixed this issue. It doesn't hurt to put a little lube on the petcock lever o-ring before assembly, much easier to turn. I also discovered with the bike running, I sprayed carb cleaner around the intake boots that bolt to the motor and noticed all 4 were leaking. With these 2 problems fixed, and my own modifications on the pod filters, she screams.

    Thanks for the videos! I just started working on my 82 gs650 and am wondering what you did with your air box and air filter box... Did you have any air filters on at the time of the video? And I'm currently debating restring the OEM air filter box or gutting it all for pod filters - any thoughts?

    • @captaincph3954
      @captaincph3954 Před 5 lety

      Thanks for the question. It has pods. When trying to start it i had them off because i was taking the carbs off a lot and that made it easier. Personally i prefer the pods look as i feel it opens up the frame/engine area. I understand that filters play an important role in the proper running of the engine but i never got around to the perfect tuning of the carbs. Good luck on your rebuild.
