bad idea
just add 1 electric motor tp power the whole thing Andrewq!
looks like a nightmare. dangerous!
How tight should the torque converter belt be , between the pulleys when you don't use the backing plate ?
I don't know, to be honest. If you have access to a TAV with the backing plate, get a feel for the best tightness and try to duplicate it.
I believe Princess Auto is more like Tractor Supply in the US. Harbor Freight sells tools and very few if any automotive parts.
Could be. I hope to go to Harbour Freight one day!
Fellow cyclekarter from Seattle here. That is a very complicated suspension set up you got there for sure. Are you running front suspension to?
Yes, I don't know of any Ck that doesn't have front suspention. But few have rear suspension. Check out my "body off" tour of The Vulture for details on the front suspension. czcams.com/video/vtUVdpWqm1g/video.htmlsi=liy0L0ikSPQSDA2H
A chainbreaker is a great tool to have. I've got one for my bike stuff that has paid for itself haha
I just can't imagine how you'd deal without one.
Wow two angle split screen! Awesome. Yeah NZ ers can be very opinionated. You are doing really well good explanation on ratios. Keep up the vids. Warwick NZ no it's not I.
Thanks! Getting really sophisticated now. I upload every week, so subscribe and keep looking in.
Its DEFINITELY Lewis Hamilton...
Believe it or not, I don't think he's even in the top 10.
You are fighting with chain because the bolts should be turned around on the torque convertor, in my opinion..... bolt head inside and nut and thread on the outside, unless there is some reason you had to mount them backwards. I don't know for sure what the situation is there. If it helps I am glad I added this comment, if not, sorry. I am not a pro to this thing, as I just am getting started to build a cycle kart myself. I hope this helps.
Absolutely. I always appreciate advice. The bolt is just slightly too long to fit the other way, and a shorter bolt is too short to hold everything. So I will have to keep struggling.
Very cool! Congratulations on passing one thousand subscribers!
Thanks!
Thanks for filming this Andrew, I have followed this build on the forum for a long time, I have to say, for me, this is one of my favorite cyclekarts. Not only does it look great, but it is inventive and creative mechanically, and it morphs with your new ideas. It might not be a show pony, but it sure is the spirit of cyclekarting. A fellow after my own heart
Cheers, Jim. I'm going to be posting more Vulture videos soon. Of the road test and of various activities this summer. I think it's great that you've been following my build. I hope it inspires lots of people to experiment and think outside the box on Cyclekart. I know I'll be following yours as well. Have you considered participating in the Cyclekart Scavenger Hunt? I'm running it again this year. Details should be coming out at the beginning of May.
Your ratio explanation was very good. I guess its a gearbox of sorts i can see the next step is designing a selector operated from the cockpit. I wondered instead of the rubber mount under the engine maybe a bit rigid and be better off with some valve springs 2 maybe in case one breaks. Also would spread load of engine. Just a thought Warwick
The jump to selecting gears from the cockpit is a pretty big leap in complexity. And to be honest, too close to a transmission (which is very much against my CK purity ethos). Just being able to do a high or low gearing for different applications is a bonus I didn't have before. All I have to do is remove one chain and put on another. Stay tuned for the testing video to see if the rubber mount works. I think it has a chance. The movement of the rear axle isn't very big, so I think it'll flex enough. We shall see!
What's your opinion on electric cyclekarts? Not from an environmental perspective, because a few dozen cyclekarts isn't going to make a difference one way or another, but from a fun so race and fun to race against point of view. Electric is much more my thing, but I wouldn't want to rock up to Elmhirst and be chased away 😅
I think electric anything is super. I'm not a big fan of electric passenger cars but not because they're electric. Just because of all the government nonsense around them. You can turn up at Elmhirst in whatever you want! Our "rules" are very loose. At worst, you won't be included in the results. But you can still run (probably). In any case, shoot me an email before you come out. A few weeks before! There are a couple of electric CKs out there. Apparently, they're under-powered. And that's not a bad thing necessarily. But I feel like the weight of the battery and the motor together would be something approaching the weight of a GX200, and you'd have to have some kind of removable battery swap out system. I was working on something like that for the Vulture (see my upcoming video premiering Wednesday) but I abandonned it. it was going to be a hybrid electric system. Pretty complicated tho.
I like the idea of electric CKs, it should be easier to find more locations to race if the karts are nearly silent.
@@andrewroudny I haven't built anything yet, but I would be aiming for the same weight and power as everyone else, solid axle and all that. I do plan on getting down to Elmhirst as a spectator this year, though
@@ThalassTKynn that's great. Are you on the mailing list yet?
@@andrewroudny haha I thought I was, but it turns out it was in drafts for some reason. Sent it now.
Thanks for letting me hangout with you this afternoon. DIY and unique design is sole .of Cyclekarting,, no apologies necessary for tying something new. Rear suspension, arm front, mid-engine.
I've got more videos like this coming out soon. Lots of shop hangout time and hopefully lots of seat time too!
Aren't you ever going to finish restoring the 1929 MG??!!
If I was going to finish, I'd have to have started!
Very nice! I'm curious if you got larger frets put on your Yamaha at some point in the past, or did it come that way?
Thanks! No, that guitar has only had a bone nut and saddle installed. No fret jobs.
actual ladder frame chassis
Literally..
Complex! Clever, too. Good luck with it. I'm a bit worried about the total transmission efficiency (engine-to-wheels, via multiple belts and chains and bearing) but what the heck, why not?
I can't imagine it'll be more draggy than the smoking drive shaft from last year!
Great Vidoe. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! More to come.
Having the option to quick-change gearing for a specific racecourse will be a great option. Granny low gearing for hill climbs and tractor pull competition... priceless!
Ooooo, that's one I hadn't considered before. A pulling competition for Cyclekarts.
This was great. Thanks for sharing it. I loved the Lemans start.
It was a hoot with 10 cars. This year we will likely have 20!
@@andrewroudny That sounds like it is going to be really fun.
@idiotluggage if you're near enough, drop by.
@@andrewroudny I wish I could. I have always wanted to visit Canada.
Frightening!
And yet somehow exhilarating.
So the frame rails are fiberglass?
Yep. They're an old fiberglass extension ladder.
That would never have occurred to me.I didn’t catch it until you said you glued them together. Great work!!
Cool.
Oh, the Canadian humour is in full force with this video! As a 1/2 Canuck, I definitely appreciate it! I'd like this twice but Utoob won't let me.
Very kind of you. A person has to have a sense of humour when they live in Canada.
I wish we had this in Romania, the closest thing to this that we have is Go Karts

ladder for a frame, genius! I plan to build one of these eventually, so thanks for the idea
No problem. Go to the largest electrical contractor in your town and see what he has laying around. They have to use fibreglass ladders and they go thru them pretty quick. Should be one or two waiting to go for a dump run. You can use Bondo with hair to glue them together (that's what I used).
good idea thanks. eventually i'd like to do the racing, but the racing cyclekarts have certain standards for construction, and engines and wheels, etc@@andrewroudny
@rexjolles as far as I know, there isn't really a class of "racing" CKs. You just take yours to a race, and race it. That's that. Doesn't have to be good or fast.
So i am a little confuzed 🇵🇱 or 🇨🇿 ??? Dobrá práce👍

👍
Great fun, creativity and friendship, "gentleman racing". Good production, you captured the spirit of cyclekarting.
This year's GP is going to be even better.
Nicely done Andrew! It really makes me really miss the Tieton days. Fun to see John and Kobus race and to see your car running after watching the build all those years. Congratulations on a fantastic event!
Thanks! Will we see you up here this year?
@@andrewroudny No, but I wish! I was visiting good friends in NY State back in Sept and got to see some action at Watkins Glen Historic races. I looked for Kobus there, saw his Porsche but missed the man - darn. Wish he’d brought the ‘Beast’ there too!

Now, as a Brit, I can tell you it is what a cycle Kart should be, get a load of junk and make a car. Your idea of you using a ladder is brilliant and is so good the wife's ladder for cleaning windows has mistrilistly disappeared, it will appear soon if she looks in the shed.
The perfect crime!
I am loving this, I made one at low budget
Awesome! Join my mailing list to get info about the next event. I'm running the biggest CK event east of the rockies. Andrewroudny@gmail.com
How did you stay interested for 8 years? Talk about delayed gratification. Also, try a place that sells tractor parts for a spare driveshaft. Similar functioning shafts are used for brush mowers and other PTO powered implements and tractor supply and similar places as well as implement manufacturers keep them in stock. Mine is square tubing and square bar stock with a U joint at each end for my brush mower.
Have you heard the saying that goes "for any building project, there is cheap, fast and good. Pick any two of those." I wanted it to be good, and needed it to be cheap, so I knew it would take a long time. Besides, I had so much to learn at every stage that there were always new things to keep me occupied.
Karts are cool. Music.............not so much.I lasted 8 min & went to find other kart vids where I can hear the engines without gangsta rap.
Fair enough. I was going to do a music-less version as well. Btw, there is no gangsta rap on there anywhere. Wait till roughly the halfway mark. Some good rock and roll too.
Awesome. Does everyone know why you named it wheel killer corner?😂
Not EVERYONE, but you do! We gonna see you this year?
Well I don't want to embarrass anyone in front of EVERYONE but you certainly are easier to catch when you're on 3 wheels. I'd love to come, I'll see if I can sell it to the family. @@andrewroudny
BTW, I just realized that Kobus broke a wheel in the hairpin this year, so now the Wheel Eater is responsible for 2 wheels eaten!
Awesome video! That was such a great event. I'm so glad that I was able to be there to experience it!
Hope you'll be at the next one.
