Some time ago I carved a mallet out of a tree limb. Today decided to do a little work on it make it better. I cut it down in length, used a spoke shave to smooth it out, took the Swedish sanding saw to it to finish it up, and topped it all off with a coat of Boiled Linseed Oil. Doing a little maintenance on my mid size axe. I pick it up at a garage sale for $3 and did a little work to it and have a really good axe to take camping. When I first restored it I used a file to get a good cutting edge on it and finished it with a sharpening stone. Now I only have to use a stone and reapply the Boiled linseed oil to the handle. I decided to take the oxidation off of my hammer and re coat the handle with boiled linseed oil. I love that smell. A quick brush up on the wire wheel and its as good as new. Just a little snow to shovel. Our area gets hit with a lot of lake effect snow so when it starts snowing you never know when it will stop. Second weekend snow day. When it get like this I like to stay in if I can but after a while I do get cabin fever and have to get out and see how everything looks.

This is how I was taught to make pancake syrup growing up. Today, I do not like store bought. The best way to have pancakes is with fresh hot syrup. The second small project was to improve my carpenters vice by adding a couple of pieces of plywood to the jaws. This will keep it from damaging the projects that I work on. Everything I used was scape laying around the shop. Never throwaway usable hardware and or wood.
