What temperature does the engine reach on the cylinder head during normal operation? Is mine reaching 120 degrees normal? What temperature does yours reach?
I can't really measure it since its buried in the generator housing. is that 120 degrees F or C?

Could you please provide the sizes of the belts for this mower?
www.youtube.com/@lechulechu4154 I am sorry but they are not standard length V belts, the one from the vari-drive to the transaxle has a special profile to work with the setup. the other one from the engine to the vari-drive has to the right length to allow the vari-drive to disengage and act like a clutch. please refer to your model number on your machine for the correct belts, and those can be found in the parts diagrams online by searching your model number in the many online parts stores that provide parts diagrams.
www.youtube.com/@lechulechu4154 also if you use standard v belts the drive will not work correctly and could damage the vari-drive setup.
Sorry to hear about your Grandma. Keep pushing through, it’s gonna get better with time.
thanks.
I bought an DYT 4000 yesterday with what the previous owner said was a "blown motor". I bought it for the deck parts to use on my 42" LT 1000 that needed new spindles. So, I was gonna just swap the deck out but started fiddling with the 20HP dual cam engine and after adding some oil and fresh gas she fired off and ran 😳 So I started mowing with it lol. So that's an L I suppose... Now imma just order a deck rebuild kit for my LT1000 and have 2 mowers? Maybe a backup mower? 🤔 Sell it perhaps? I could remove the deck all together and use it as my yard mule... I haven't decided yet, but right now I'm just excited for having bought a good riding mower for a paltry $100 😁
sorry I haven't responded. I am not sure, its your choice.
Some real nice machines. I want to get a Toro 24 inch. I have an ariens 8/24
thanks.
Thank you, I had an over frequency error and shut down on a nearly identical machine. Its 50hz in EU. The previous owner replaced the "throttle" assembly and it makes sense to be tightened at a random spot.
Glad I could help you fix your machine.
What can cause over heat on this engine
overloading of the engine, blocked cooling air, both on the intake under the shroud or on the exit path of the cooling air, or missing cooling fins on the flywheel.
i have one out of an old poulsbo boat that im trying to put back to gether, im pretty sure its an 8 hpw
nice, according to the manual it makes 4.7hp at 1600rpms and 9.2hp at 3600rpms

Hi, so what is more important, voltage or hertz? I have a 1300 watt geny and I set the voltage while under 750 watt load to 120 volts. Is that good enough or should I really get a Hz tester? Is it even possible for the Volts and Hz to be that far from one another? Cheers!
it really depends, but Hz would be more important for loads. the reason why I say that is motors and electronics are designed to work at 60hz or as close to it. if they get to high or low of Hz it can cause motors to not run at there correct rpms, plus overheat and for electronic loads it can cause them to be come grumpy. my generator has it voltage controlled by a capacitor, so the voltage is set to what it is with rpms. in that case set the Hz, and the voltage will be good enough. If the voltage is not within 110-120v then the capacitor needs to be changed. but some generators come with whats called an AVR or automatic voltage regulator, which does a much better job getting the voltage where it needs to be. with those set the Hz and if the voltage is not within 110-120 then you can adjust the AVR to make it right. As for getting a Hz reading, you can buy the P3 international "Kill-A-Watt" meter and it will be just fine. May I ask what are you running that is 750 watts and what type of generator?
@@JoshKilen Hey thanks for the reply! It's just a back up generator that I paid 60$ for. (United Power GG1300). It had a blown capacitor which I recently replaced. But it seemed like the previous owner had messed around with the idle and governor before giving up on it so they needed to be reset. I went 120v at idle then 120v under load and was using a space heater on low setting.
ok, got love other people's problems, lol. nice job sorting it out. do you plan on just using that space heater when you use it or electronic loads like tv's or laptops?
@@JoshKilen I plan on trying to sell it to a neighbor so they can power their furnace in the event of a winter outage. Not looking to make a profit just recover costs. But I want to make sure I'm not handing off something that could damage whatever they choose to run with it either. I've already got two invertor generators but if it doesn't sell (for 70$) then I'll keep it as a back up and also be sad that my neighbors are dumb. lol
it wouldn't hurt to check the Hz.
Whats model mtd?
a 1989 MTD 139-342-000

Hey Josh. Hope you kick that cough quickly.
thanks.
its not the best video but the first one that dit make my understand how to do it. thank you for making this video. really helpful.
no problem, glad it helped, why is it not the best video? anything I need to explain or clear up?
@@JoshKilen Forget this guy, the video was fine. People are weird. He states it's the first video that helped him actually understand this yet somehow it's still not good enough?
true.
Thank you
no problem.
Good for you, Josh. Great scores there, stuff that can make some cool projects. Wow, too bad for your friend and his shed destruction. Hope his insurance company paid off well.
thanks, the insurance company was contacted in april and didn't get to see the damage till about 2 weeks ago.
Couple of good scores. You can never have too many projects. Neat old riding mowers for sure. Glad I'm in Tennessee now and away from that massive snow.
thanks, yes you can to many projects.
I have one of these but it starts to surge after a while only with lights and maybe a router and tv.
its probably bad fuel or some junk in the carb.
6:40 thats probably because the motor is at wide open throttle hahahahaha All you can do, is lug it down at that point!
i did have it overloaded. the 12v circuit takes a lot of power out of the generator head.
That 960 is super-cool. Gonna be neat with the diesel conversion. Take care, and I hope your ankle heals very fast!!
thank you. and it is feeling better day by day.
Good vid I'll try this with mine once done is there any reason to adjust the avr to iits a 16 hp 10kva open frame diesel generator seames to be lagging at about 6500 load
glad it helped.
Any reason to adjust the avr on it ?
to get perfect voltage. I should of put a disclaimer in it for people with 50Hz machines.
i think your question have not much to do with this video, AVR is for voltage and this video is about speed or Hz. No there is no need to do that, only when the voltage is a little outside the range you can consider adjusting your AVR, but can be a different defect as wel you need to check that furst. @@alanshiels4868
Cool little genset there. Wards used to market some really cool stuff. Not sure who built their gensets, but most everything they sold was very good quality, 100% American made. And yep, blower motor jobs can be an absolute bear on some cars. Glad you got yours done before winter blows in!
thanks.
Are the craftsmen tracked snowblower engines a bit different than say a comparable wheeled version. As in.. the engine has a seperate counter rotating shaft for the drive?
these craftsman, both wheeled and tracked versions, are not like that, but some newer ones are like that, due they are made by MTD, who also made some of the cub cadet snowblowers. my current one is a yard machines which is made by MTD and it a dual shaft engine. I still have the engine off this snowblower.
Thank you very much, you saved my day. I got an idea, what to do and finally succeeded, even with some pain in between, but at the end it went fine.
glad it helped.
I'm catching up, my friend . Been warm there it's in the 100s here
Thanks, that is too hot to to do anything outside. luck its only been in the 80's here, and that is getting too hot.
@JoshKilen I have no doubt. I usually do the strenuous work early in the morning and rest in the ac when it's hot.
That was really clear. Thank you. Two questions though.. 1. You pulled the LHS of the bar off a pin to release the tension on the spring. Is there normally a nut or something to prevent it falling off that pin in use? 2 When you’ve taken the tension off the spring it looks like there is enough space to remove the pulley without having to remove the spring. Does the spring really need to be removed?
for the LHS of the bar I due believe its held on by a cotter pin. as for removing the spring I don't think I could fit my hand in there with the spring in place. main reason why is the belt has to wrapped around the pulley on the rear transmission.
@@JoshKilen That’s really helpful. Thank you very much.
great video about carburetor replacement. Q.any idea where I can get replacement tracks?
Thanks, Google you model number and search from there. to get your track part number go through sears part direct, you can order from there or you could find the part cheaper else where.
Nice upgrades. Those thrust washers make it almost like power steering.
thanks, to tell you the truth I can't really tell a difference, maybe a little better. But the jury is still out on that.
FIRST!
lol. what did you think, and how have you been?
Thanks Josh for the update. Excellent video. That engine does run smooth as silk, even with it a little stubborn to get started. After some tweaking and adjusting, I bet you can get it to start on the first or second pull. Have a good week!
it started on the second pull when I first got it.
Thanks for the update bro
thanks.
no update video from you? how about the boat?
Another good video, Josh. Thanks for posting. Got a lot of good parts there from that old humidifier. Amazing what it takes to control one of those ultrasonic units. I love doing that, taking an old machine and just totally dismantling it to figure it all out. Then, salvage whatever good stuff is left over. Sometimes, if I have an old electronic doohickey that I know for sure is of absolutely no use any more, I'll take the printed circuit boards with all the goodies, take a 12 volt car battery with a copper wire from each of the battery posts, and just drag the two leads across all the stuff on the PC board. Wow, sometimes it's like the 4th of July!!!! All kinds of popping and cracking and sparking and smoking going on. Gotta be sure a door and a window are open for a draft of fresh air, some of that electronic smoke is toxic and not good to breathe. Some of the old capacitors go off like little bombs. Gotta wear eye protection for that, too. Anyway, have a good weekend.
thanks.
Good update, Josh. Sounds like you've got those gensets dialed in pretty well. Good to have those on hand, especially during storm season. I've got a couple Honda's and one Generac 6500. During a recent ice storm here in Oklahoma, power was out almost 5 days, the Honda's kept most everything going. The Generac did okay keeping the water well (230 volt) going but kept blowing oil out the crankcase vent. I double checked to be sure the oil level was not too high. It was 'spot-on' at the correct level but still blows out about a cup of oil on an extended run. Been dodging tornadoes the past few days and crazy wild fires that destroyed 40 homes on Friday. Crazy times we are living in. Keep up the good work and stay safe!
thanks, stay safe and for your generac with the oil issue look into the PCV system it might be not working right or it could be having a problem with the rings.
Thanks for the update. Got a lot of stuff going on! Tons of neat projects.
thanks.
Thanks for the update, Josh. That's a cool setup on the aux. fuel tank for the genset. I wonder how much run-time it will give you? You have a lot of neat machinery there to work with and enjoy. Keep up the good work!
thanks, the generator consumes 1/2 gallon per hour, so the 3 gallon tank should give me 6 hours of run time.
Good video, buddy. I like the idea of the modern screen
thanks, just made another video on the generator, this time on the extended run fuel tank. that will be coming later this evening.
@Josh Kilen your welcome. Sounds good
Hi josh. Thanks for sharing.. My generator stop producing electricity after 2-3 hours running but the engine is still on. Could you explain what might be the reason it happened? I need to turn off the engine like 10minutes, then i press the reset button, after that it running back normally.. it happen like every day im using it.. thanks in advance!
what is the generator rated to and how much are you pulling off it?
That's a cool genset. I'd love to get one, but wow, they are hard to find.
idk how hard it is to find, this one sorta just popped up a few weeks ago.

What is the function of the red and black pliers? Those that look like jumpstarters kindly
sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but those red and black pliers are meant as an emergency battery charger.
what a pain, I have the same model, got it for $50 and i like the body. but it suffers a range of issues im chasing down, got to pull the transaxle out and split it as my wheels are seized on, while im there i have an issue with it not selecting neutral or reverse, the linkage for that is fine so i assume internal issue, and it wont select gears, stuck in 1st as 2nd-7th is just freeplay in the linkage though its fully tight, found the mount for the pedal is elongated a fair effort so i assume thats the problem, did you ever have similar issues?
No I didn't have that problem.
Glad you're doing better after Covid, Josh. That stuff is bad news. Take extra vitamins to help you stay healthy this winter. Great organizational skills, there! Your new storage/shop area looks great, it's really a cool place. Love all those engines. A guy can never have enough engines !!!! Looks like you've got several projects coming up. I'll keep on the 'look out' for your next videos.
thanks, I am getting better, but my project are have to slow way down, due to funds.
What engine is the biggest? And what's the plan for it?
that would be the 4-10hp engines, 2 of those are the diesels and those are going into two of my tractors, the other two are 10hp Tecumseh's that came out of snowblowers.
@@JoshKilen interesting , talk about torque! They're more efficient than the gas engines
thats why I am going diesel, they are replacing 14hp gas engines.
@@JoshKilen nice!
