Its interesting for my first time seeing a live footage of a spanish ship how narrow and high they built them. I suppose this would keep the cargo much drier :p Shame about the weight of gold though
They did this because of the way warfare was conducted in the late middle ages and early renaissance. They first tried to reduce the number of enemies on their ship with cannons, which broke through the ships planks. Most were killed or wounded by splinters and not the cannonballs though. They also fired muskets at the defenders on the deck, one reason for the height of the ships, especially in the back, to be able to get a clear view on the enemy's deck. After this usually not too extensive weakening, a boarding was conducted and one-to-one combat ensued, similar to land battles, where the attackers tried to take control of the important parts of the ship, the steering, the anchor and the masts for example. Which is another reason for the high front and back, since thats where those things are located, they got defended like a castle, where their names derive from. That design came with the effect that these ships were very top-heavy, to the point they could actually fall over in bad weather, and also had to carry a lot of ballast to lower the center of mass, which made them slow and cumbersome to maneuver, and incapable of sailing shallow waters. They were intended as warships for the sea, and since ships carried very valuably stuff from america to europe which many people wanted to have, a warship was certainly a good choice. The galeon was designed just for that purpose, whilst also being able to take the long journy and carry a good amount of cargo. The cargo was actually located in the hold of the ship, below the waterline, where natural light doesn't reach so the space could not really be used for other tasks. The metals where probably stored at the lowest points to further lower the center of mass, and dryness of cargo were not an issue since barrels and other containers can be watertight.

Its roles being a platform for Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicles (ROUVs)[9] and a testbed for new specialist capabilities, required for monitoring waters important to UK interests.[5] Acquired in 2023, the ship entered drydock at Cammell Laird for modification into a Multi-Role Ocean Surveillance Ship (MROSS)."

Its hardly a secret! All published publically on KHM movements and TRIUMPH is now the only T-class left in service. As long as you ID the class of sub, its not really hard to identify which sub it is!
You don't often see R.N.Submarines in Plymouth just the surface ships. Flag Officer Sea Training FOST was run from Plymouth.
Ofcourse the Vanguard class and Astutes (eventually) are refitted at Devonport.
When she passes the German Corvette it looks like two model ships of different scales! 😂😂

The last time I left Plymouth on Johanna Lucretia, under a previous owner/captain, was into a force 9 gale as HMS Ocean was coming in, to shelter. The highly experienced guy out on the bowsprit became submerged each time he was being buried into the back of the next wave, holding on for dear life. I helmed up the Channel under twin jibs, wing on wing, with spray from the bow flying high as we surfed down the enormous waves, knees bending under the compression as we reached troughs of the waves. She is a great ship and I'm pleased to see her under her current ownership. Fair winds Ken

This is a terrible video no narration, lousy camera work, horrible sound just the wind and background noise. Hell some kids with cell phones and an encyclopedia page to read out of would have better.

Why is it not flying the White Ensign on a collapsable flagstaff like I remember them doing on numerous occasions during my 22 resulting in the pipe 'HMS *****. Face to port (or stbd) and salute'?. This mark of respect was returned by the dipping of the Ensign.

i totally agree with @99iron duke 4 about preserving the last falklands warship. i just wish FEARLESS or INTREPID had been preserved too. only falklands ship left now is RFA DILIGENCE who is in a sorry state. if she is not sold then she will be scrapped. what a waste. hate to see naval ships go that way.
