    I don't know if anyone's mentioned this in prior comments (disclaimer, I haven't read though them), but if I were to build my own dyno, I would consult with someone like Steve Morris (who's openly shown his DIY dyno on his channel).. More over not so much for the principles involved, but for real world cost info on how much you might spend vs buying a turn-key type. Edit* provided you're open to a non-chassis based dyno.

    • @carsandengineering2022
      @carsandengineering2022 Před 5 měsíci

      Yeah I have worked through the cost a good bit in detail. Of course there are some unknowns, but not outside the realm of estimating. Some of the cheapest hub dyno systems I have found are still starting above 70k. I will be around 17k with this system. It helps I have machinist friends and work with engine dynos for a living. Steve Morris has some great videos.

      @@carsandengineering2022 yeah after watching more of your video, I realized you're after an electrical breaking type dyno, where as Steve's is your typical water-brake (eddy) type dyno, while also more so specific to direct flywheel measured power.

      @carsandengineering2022 Před 5 měsíci

      I am not sure about shipping cost. If the shipping was the same, then the chinese models could have saved me around $2k. However, documentation was not clear, communication was difficult, and they had significantly lower speed ratings. The Klam retarders had excellent data sheets and are made of stainless steel. They also have warranties.

      @inovahightechltd Před rokem

      @@carsandengineering2022 that would be interesting to see, they have quite a map depending on a wide variety of environmental conditions and they store, like the ECU, the last 30 starts / drives. If the EZL is completely reset then the last 30 starts / drives are erased and the unit defaults to a standard map until 30 starts / drives have been completed. This is a FIFO scheme. The original system adjust itself to changes in engine over time

      @@inovahightechltd Really? Thats amazing. What feedback is it using to adjust the timing parameters? My car does not have knock sensors. I was hoping to just connect it to a signal generator on my bench and scope it as I change RPM and manifold pressure.

    • @inovahightechltd
      @inovahightechltd Před rokem

      @@carsandengineering2022 the timing is observed by the rear rpm sensor which is a pulse signal off the flywheel. The flywheel has 4 indents at each 90 degree increments. The EZL also creates the TD signal from this input. Further the EZL connects to the Manifold pressure and coolant temp, it is from this combination that the Siemens 16 Bit microcontroller with software written in Assembler back then calculates and determines various environmental and engine conditions. A miss or knocking is picked up via manifold pressure and coolant temp and timing angle from flywheel. Pretty slick system if everything around it works correctly. There were 4 revisions of the EZL from 1986 to 1992, each one will run the engine a bit different.
