Late 1960s Monogram 1/48 Me 109E Messerschmitt “Top Luftwaffe Fighter”, Kit PA74 This plane was also featured in the Problems with Vintage Models video, although it was so dirty you might not have recognized it. The landing gear is not the sturdiest and the plane has a tendency to collapse. Dad said that the landing gear on the real plane was always a weak point so it’s historically accurate. :...

1966 Built Aurora 1/48 Swedish “S” Tank, Kit 316-129 Going through my dad’s basement, I found what I thought was an Aurora model kit. When I opened it, I found a number of Aurora box tops, including the Swedish “S” Tank in this video, cut out and stacked inside. And although I don’t have the actual kit, I do have the model that Dad built. Please note that this 1966 kit didn’t have decals or the...

Six Vintage 1/25 Tamiya Panthers Panthers can be confusing! For the previous video, I brought all of Dad’s Tamiya Panther kits upstairs and was organizing them to figure out which ones I had already filmed and which were duplicates. Panther vs. Jagdpanther. Remote control vs. motorized vs. display. Various kit numbers and years. After researching them, I laid them all out so that they would mak...

Now we add this 1967 Remote Control Jagdpanther to the list. One of the most remarkable parts of this kit is its artwork. I am amazed at the box art detai...

Luckily, this model is in better shape than its Revell counterpart. 🙂 It is missing the piece of track on the front of the tank and has a little bit of decal wear but as far as I can tell everything else is present and account...

You did a nice job on this one .
Nice job on this one. I am about to start building this kit .
Beautiful
I agree.....so many to choose from AWESOME 👍
I still remember how I fell off the chair when this thing was released. 1/32 scale was still a novelty back then. I ended up buying and building the German version though, which came out right after this.
😮😮😮😮😮😮😮😮 estas maquetas las hice hace años,tengo 4 de cada una aparte sin montar y ahora quecestan descatalogadas se cotizan altisimo de precio
WOW. Awesome stash. A lot of great kits.
I’m always going to WATCH this channel………, This episode / post just KILLED ME !!!!!!!!!! So many great kits, the MPC PROFILE Series was interesting… If that was your DADS stash , he had some great TASTE He must of had some great ideas for all those kits…. Would’ve liked to meet your DAD…………….. MODEL STASH ON ……. CHRIS 🇺🇸
Wow, that's an old kit. Not 100% accurate but darn close! Well done!
Thanks! Appreciate the feedback.
How durable is it?
Well, it's about 50 years old and still in pretty good condition so I think it could be labeled as durable. ;-) Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@vintagemilitarymodelkits yep, thanks for the info, and replying
Am about to start this kit. Looks like a simple but nice build. Just wish there were aftermarket cockpit and instrument panel 3D decals for it.
Good luck with your build. Thanks for watching and sharing with us!
This kit was a dog -- I still have one. He built a beautiful model out of it.
Thanks so much!
Simplified kit.... a product of the early days of model making.
Yes, the Auroras were fairly simple kits. Appreciate you watching and commenting!
Yes....love the planes
So glad you like them! Thank you for watching and commenting.
The landing gear folds up!
Yes, it does! I always love extra features like this.
I remember this and Revells Bf 109f in 1/32
Thanks for watching and sharing with us. :-)
Nice build. These old kits were great.
Thanks. Gotta love the old kits!
I prefer longer videos with some history but this is a start. I'll check back.
Appreciate the feedback. Thanks for watching!
A fine build. I did many of Monogram's 1/48 planes in the mid-60's. They were all brush painted but looked good to me and were fun.
Dad built quite a few, too. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Your dad did a great job on this one! I built my share of these early Monogram kits when I was in grade school. What stands out to me is how they were almost designed to "double" as toys as well as displayable models. The non-scale, retractable landing gear, and the radio mast the thickness of a scale 2x4 are clearly designed to hold up to rough treatment. In many ways, it's too bad these kits are no longer available to serve as inexpensive kits for beginners, (and nostalgia builds for those of a "certain age.") Our local hobby shop recently bought-out an extensive collection that included many of these old Monogram aircraft kits; including many examples of the Bf-109E shown here. Though it definitely shows its age, I picked one up - as well as a contemporary Monogram Mitsubishi Zero - for a future project I have in mind that will mainly involve swapping-out the decals and color schemes to make a "What-If?" Japanese Bf-109E, and a Luftwaffe A6M Zero. These kits will serve well for such a "pencil sketch" project. Using the latest kits from Eduard or Tamiya would be more like an "oil-on-canvas" project . . . . Thanks for sharing! 6th Like.
Thanks. I love your build idea. I bet it would look really great!
HOLY MACARONI …. I built this kit in 1970, one of my first… Loved the retractable landing gear… It flew many a combat mission throughout my parents house I must have painted it a few times, changed colors and markings… Played with it so much, broke it one too many times… In the garbage it went………… NOW, I have this kit on the shelf… Still in it’s original BBB box with the BOXART top Still in the Shrink Wrap from the factory… I’m never going to build it, it’s on the shelf just for SHOW…. Vintage Models on……… CHRIS 🇺🇸 ( I’m still building the old stuff )
Thanks for sharing with us! So nice that you have the kit NIB in your collection.
Dad might be cool af
He is!
👍 nice. Hope you have him still around
Yes, Dad's still here. :-) He'll be 85 in October. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@vintagemilitarymodelkits okay I will send you some of my tank pictures
Did you get my email about the 2 Chieftain tanks
Good video!!! Built this kit numerous times in the 1990s when was getting back into modeling while battling alcoholism. There is a hobby shop in Indianapolis, IN, that specializes in these ancient Tamiya (and other brands) kits, but they do ask a pretty penny or two for them. I always try to visit that shop whenever am in the area and sometimes will talk myself into buying a kit or two, not that I really need them added to the stash.
I'm glad you liked it! That's great you have a store you can visit. Unfortunately, where I am in Maryland, there are no hobby shops that carry older models and only Hobby Lobby carries new (and not that many.) Dad said when he was in the hobby 50 years ago, there were places to buy models everywhere.
@@vintagemilitarymodelkits That is correct - there USED to be hobby shops EVERYWHERE!!! Just had a local hobby shop close for good, except the owner retired.
Nice build. I always liked that kit. Wish it was repopped.
Thanks! Dad said they were nice little kits and he made a number of them.
I built one or two of these when I was in Grade School and Junior High (that last one came in the square box with a vacuform diorama base.) I always liked the 'futuristic' look of this tank. As a matter of curiosity, what is the condition of the vinyl tracks? Sadly, I heard that Atlantis does not have the tooling for this one. Thanks for sharing! 5th Like.
The tracks are not dry rotted but feel delicate and I'm afraid to handle them too much. Some of Dad's other Auroras weren't so lucky and have badly dry rotted tracks. I, too, like the unusual design of this tank. Thanks for commenting!
I WANT THIS KIT !!!!! I liked building AURORA TANKS…. I have a few in the stash, and a few repops from other kit manufacturers I’ll watch this again You have my like ( always )…. VINTAGE MODEL ON……… CHRIS 🇺🇸
Tamiya did make this tank in 1/48 scale. Motorized in the 1970s. Hopefully they will repop it in their current 1/48 scale. Would love a 1/35 kit.
@@garfieldsmith332 You know it GARFIELD !!!!!!! I’ll have to see if any are available on €Bay…. Thanks for your input / reply and just being part of this channel 🇨🇦 🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸 CHRIS
Thanks, Chris. Dad liked the Aurora kits and built a number of the tank models so stay tuned for more Auroras in the future!
@@chrispacer4231 @garfieldsmith332 Dad had this kit, too. Here's a picture: photos.app.goo.gl/utJwYg3rbp3u1fe86
I used the 1966 Panther to make a Bergpather as it was rear drive leaving the front drivers area open for a driver’s compartment using a Tiger 1 for the control and radio area. And scratch built the winch box and rear spade and ran the control wires through the rear toolbox to a plug that could be attached for operation and unplugged for display. I won a Silver medal in my State contest.
You should start your own youtube channel showcasing your builds. They sound amazing!

@@vintagemilitarymodelkits 👍👍👍
I've been modelling since 1966-67, built this a number of times, F-4D version is the only survivor at present as I have a 'few' of my fave F-4 kit in the stash including an Airfix Craftmaster version. I know it's shortcomings and I'll do a couple "fully corrected" and some OOB. The model in this vid would be in my "to be repaired" box, easy fix or total rebuild, serious fun!!! Cool vid too!!
So glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing with us. :-)

It’s always FUN to look at kits Sometimes when I’m not really up to building ( Mojo isn’t there ) I just open up a storage container with some of my stash in it…. And I REDISCOVER WHAT I HAVE !!!!!!! Sometimes I forget what I have Get really SURPRISED at what I Find 😃 IT IS FUN !!!!!!!!!!! VINTAGE MODELS ON ….. CHRIS 🇺🇸
I hear you, brother. We've all been there. I'm there now, myself. But I hope to break out of my malaise soon! I hope you will, too!
I'm lucky enough to have all of the Tamiya 1/25 scale kits except for the Chieftain . My search continues for the Chieftain . 😊
It sounds like you have a great stash! Always appreciate you watching and commenting.
Awesome. Yes, Tamiya did make it confusing with their numbering system, and some even re-numbered. Add to it as you stated remote control. motorized. static. Nice to see those kits again. Thanks for posting the pictures.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
Have seen these on sale at a local hobby shop in the KCMO area ad in the Indianapolis area. Crazy amount of money wanted for these kits. Nice to actually see one opened up!!
They are pricey, especially the remote control ones. I'm glad Dad bought this one long ago so we can give you a peek at it. Appreciate you watching and commenting!
Gotta love the TAMIYA BOX ART I never built any 1/25 Remote Control Kits… They were out of my price range as a little kid…. BUT, I always looked at them when I went to the HOBBY STORE, and Department Stores ( K-Mart ) I bet they were fun to build and move around the ground… The big 1/16th kits are popular now THANKS VINTAGE MODELS ON……. CHRIS 🇺🇸
For Dad, he was just at the right age when he was out of college and working and able to afford these kits. Always appreciate your comments!
I have one but its missing parts, do you know where i could find any?
Sorry, I don't. I guess your best shot would be to pick up another kit inexpensively. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@vintagemilitarymodelkits yea, ive found a couple of them but i wouldn't say its inexpensive

This is the first 1/25 series model Tank I bought since 1969.
That's great! Thanks for sharing with us.
This is another kit I didn’t build… When I started building models 1970, I had to earn the money to purchase model kits This one was out of my price range… But, when I looked through the J.C. PENNIES CHRISTMAS CATALOG…. These kits were in there…. They were on my CHRISTMAS LIST…. BUT Santa Claus didn’t deliver 🤣😂😅…… TAMIYA makes some great kits I still build the old stuff…….. You have my like 👍 VINTAGE MODELS ON…. CHRIS 🇺🇸
I remember the J.C. Penney's catalog! It was so much fun to go through and mark everything I wanted. Of course, like with you, Santa didn't deliver but a lot of great memories!
Thanks for sharing a look at another Tamiya classic. Tamiya sure did have a strange number system for their armour kits. Tamiya art work back then was great. They new that box art sells kits.
Appreciate your thoughts! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for another review of a classic, Armor kit! These 1/25th scale Tamiya kits are well-detailed, feature individual track links, but suffer from a lack of accessories (though I did notice that in-scale Jerry Cans were provided) needed to build a diorama display.
