Welcome to Seasonal Designs by Dawn! My channel is all about Garden Inspiration!!
I want to give you ideas that can help you put together gorgeous containers for ALL seasons....Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. I hope to be able to answer gardening questions you might have and offer hands-on gardening information and ideas I garden in Zone 5 but many of my container and garden ideas offered here are applicable to a wide range of zones. I often show names of plants used along with their tags so you can take a snapshot of them when your out at the garden center.

Filmed on August 4th 6 days before the big Garden Conservancy's Open Day Garden Tour. The garden this year seemed to bloom at least 1 1/2 weeks ahead of last year.

Problems in the Garden

Canker is a common disease of pagoda dogwood. This disease can be found throughout most of the eastern half of the United States. Infected branches turn yellow to orange in color and die. Golden canker can kill small twigs, large branches, and the main stem of pagoda dogwood. Golden canker doesn’t kill the roots of the tree. Prune out cankers. Remove and destroy the infected branches.

Creating a Hanging Arrangement

For this project I used two 6 foot trellis. I cut off the very top and the bottom as well as the little pieces along the edges. I stapled chicken wire to one side for something to be able to weave my greens and florals in to. It worked extremely well. Dawn, How amazing, amazing, amazing is your garden!! Your talents and hard work are evident and rival some well known garden spaces I have visited. I would have loved to enjoy your tour and had the opportunity to meet you; however, your video gave a beautiful picture of the garden. Do you ever take a day to sit and savor each space? This is EXACTLY how I want my garden to look!! I bought a home with no gardening space and have cut in a garden area. I love the way you leave space between your plants. I have a tendency to overplant. I love the look of my freshly planted garden but I and end up with something that always looks messy. Your video. Has shown me how to combine 3:06

You do a very nice job of arranging all your beautiful flower beds, both in their appearance and their bloomtimes.. Wow, it’s so nice to see the wildflower prairie doing so well! The pollinators and birds will benefit! The decoration in your greenhouse of plants and tableware, etc. looked just lovely. Thanks for sharing the fruits of your hard labour

Dawn - I loved your garden! Your prairie is beautiful. Have you watched any of Dr. Doug Tallamy's videos? He explains the importance of native plants and their connection as host plants for caterpillars which feed baby birds (they cannot eat seeds). Also, may I ask what brand your sage colored dishes are? I have been looking for just that shade of green.

Hi Dawn! It has been a strange summer here in zone 8B-too hot and humid followed by lots of rain and humidity and so many flowers and plants haven’t been happy! It was too hot to garden or plant anything new; just maintain what we have. Your garden is soooo beautiful but you too have had weather to deal with. Saw your new video up on your channel and I will watch it now since catching up with you. Thank you for sharing the beauty of your garden and home!
Hello Janice!! That does not sound like fun. I really do not like summers like that. We had a pretty good year with lots of rain which most plants like. Hopefully next summer is better for you.

Wow those Scottish Fantasy daylilies are striking. It is hard to find true pinks in Hemerocallis. I find that I can keep my Russian Sage from flopping by doing the Chelsea Chop on it in mid to late May.

Hopefully next year! 😊 At 9:05, you show a trio of containers by your patch of red echinacea…what plants are in the tallest of the 3 containers? I believe I see osteospermum and lantana maybe? What else is in that container?
Thank you. Yes that container has Tricolor Sage, zinnias, Calibrachoa, Verbena, and the lantana and osteospermum.
