R&F's Chromatic Tones Color Set
R&F's Chromatic Tones Color Set features a soft palette of six pale tones in 40 ml cakes. It includes Brilliant Yellow Extra Pale, Celadon Green, Cerulean Grey, Green Gold Pale, Scarlet Extra Pale, and Ultramarine Blue Pale.
In this video we demonstrate each color full strength against a black and white background to highlight the role value plays in determining how chromatic whites operate. A white background, which will contrast less with chromatic whites, makes chromatic whites appear darker. It tends to bring out its color, while at the same time making it look slightly grayish. A black background will tend to bring out whiteness.
You can learn more about working with R&F paints by visiting our website rfpaints.com, where you will find our blog Unique Color under the More tab along with a host of helpful resources and tools. You can also follow us on Instagram at @rfpaints.

    Id probably get used or two and use them sparingly, and have an underpainting in something else. Im generally a Duotone painter or use color splash to add color to a monochromatic piece. Ex. Important objects in color.

    • @rfpaints
      @rfpaints Před 5 měsíci

      Yes - a Pigment Stick is our trademarked name for the oil stick we produce. It differs from other commercially available oil sticks in that it is lipstick-soft and has no adulterants or filler. You can clean up the same way you would with any high quality tube oil. Some people use solvents. Others use baby wipes or baby oil to wipe their tools. • @lissettetaladay1692

    Is the blending medium just a clear cold wax?

    • @rfpaints
      @rfpaints Před rokem

      No - our Blending Medium is linseed oil with just enough natural wax to make it solid at room temperature. It doesn't contain any solvents like cold wax has. Instead of adding body to your paint and helping speed up the drying time, Blending Medium can be used to create glazes, extending your paint and adding transparency. Blending Medium with Drier can be laid down directly onto your substrate before you begin working with Pigment Sticks. The small amount of drier in it can help dry your paint from the ground up. Hope that answers your question!

    Can I use pigment powders with encaustic ??

    • @rfpaints
      @rfpaints Před rokem

      Hi Ana. Some people do mix pigment powder into encaustic medium to create a form of encaustic paint. There are a few things to be aware of. Mixing in pigment is not the same as buying commercial grade paint that has been milled. Our pigments are finely ground on a three part mill and different colors require finessing in order to make a successful product. Milling breaks the pigment down into what are called colloidal size particles, which means they are small enough to remain in suspension. Mixing cannot do this. All it does is distribute the pigment without sufficiently breaking it down so pigments don't stay adequately in suspension. Paint making is a very sophisticated science and an art and professional grade paint will always have many more such advantages over handmade paint. Another thing you will want to be aware of is exposing yourself to airborne particulates if you work with pigment in your studio.

      In this demo I am painting directly on a panel that has black and white gesso, but it the black gesso is acrylic. We set it up for demo purposes this way, but it is not a stable way to create a painting. You'd want to work on either encaustic gesso or a unprimed wood panel or on a background that was made up of white and black encaustic paint.
