Breath of Fire Review (SNES)
My review of an underappreciated beginning to an adored series! Capcom might've had some serious growing pains here, but the game is still a blast packed with earnest and smart innovations.

The Alliance Alive HD Remastered Review
zhlédnutí 2,4KPřed 3 lety
It's not often a game recaptures those early childhood moments of being truly, utterly, hopelessly lost in a game's systems and narrative, but The Alliance Alice, which is clearly heavily influenced by golden era jrpgs, does exactly that and deserves more attention and love. Suikoden Review (PS1)
zhlédnutí 4,2KPřed 3 lety
The first Suikoden firmly and instantly established itself as an inventive and instantly addictive JRPG back in 1996. The game takes on war and human tragedy and rarely misses the mark. Ys is a series that I have long been interested in but have frequently avoided because of my own hesitance to play action RPGs (which is odd considering one of my all-time favorites, Terranigma, is an ARPG); however, this game is an absolute blast and deserving of everybody's attention. I am actually a bit surprised by how immensely I enjoyed this game and the additions system. In North America, it came out for the Playstation on June 13th of 2000. Grandia 2 Review (Dreamcast/PS2/PC)
zhlédnutí 4,8KPřed 4 lety
A review of the second Grandia and probably one of the more fun fighting systems there is; that said, the story is continuously and unfairly dismissed because of its young adult themes and unchallenging writing. This handwaving of the story doesn't pay attention to the way in which Grandia's writers handled responsibility and many of the game's more mature moments. Grandia 2 developer interview...

Oh the memories. I got every square game after FFVII for PS1. There was no shortage of things to do on that system back in the day. And they were killing it. Felt like back to back to back just fun stuff. FFVII, FF Tactics, FFVIII, FFIX, Vagrant Story, Xenogears, BFM, Dewprism, LoM, And a ton more that just kept flooding in. Good times.
While the game isnt perfect it is easy to tell that you arent that well versed in saga games. Also the diss of the soundtrack is a huge trigger for people.

4:45 Combat System
Never knew there was a 3rd or 4th 😱😭
Got a sub for showing me this game sadly. Cant play it
Realistic ≠ better I’ll never understand gamers acting like making a game feel/look more like real life matters in any way to the quality of the game
and the music is very well chosen, the closing is too good
This is very well done. We love the video selections that you chose and we can remember playing 🎴 that game there with the aztec looking wheel 🎡 and the quadrants! Very well thought out 💭🤔 thought good sir.
Game is easily in my top 5 games of all time
I'm not sure why but something tells me you need to hear this but thank you for a awesome video
I really did need that, thank you.
@@HighLevelReviews no problem bro you have a new subscriber in me
Hey, you should add, that this movie is only about JRPG and thiers TBC. Here u miss very crucial thing, which is board.
I really don't like the random stat growth because only HP and SP and new skills are learned, we have to rely on equipment/gear to get good gear smh.
Hmmm. I always thought about it as less of an abstraction and more of a metaphore.
The only downside to Suikoden I is its brevity - it leaves you craving more of its captivating world!
I'd say I replay this game at least once every two years, I only played on an emulator now because I have to have that fast forward mode. I fast forward through the battle loading and enemy attacks oh and the magic attacks. With that there it makes everything tolerable because I just don't have the patience to sit through all the crap in that game anymore because I've already seen it 15 + times
The reason why Freya is hardly mentioned inside Final Fantasy becomes increasingly overt when you hear more and more about 7, 8, and 14 these days. FF9 is the obscure one compared to even 8. It's not that she in particular is forgotten about by the fanbase, more that the 'fanbase' never got into 9 in general in the first place. It says even more when you have them talk endlessly about how Aerith's death is the most shocking thing ever, when the death flags were all over the place. Nothing about Tifa especially. Peeps think Aerith is just bubbly, cute, and meek or whatever you'd find from your typical anime healer girl. Nor any of the goofy shit that went on in FF7. And so much more. It's clear now, it has far less to do with Freya being the "Red13" of the game, whom also was just DONE after his extremely short arc. But still though...This is ridiculous. This is too heavy for anyone to just let bottled up for the entire run after finally finding the man at home after being missing for all those years. It just doesn't feel right to be satisfied or done with just finding him or conveniently have the journey's constant distractions get in the way of literally anything and everything else that could have came of this.
Dude I love ur vids ❤
Have you played the other Breath of Fire titles yet?
Wow, very intelligent review! Broke the game nicely down with nuance, hit all the nails on the head. The innovation and art direction stood out to me as a child playing this one
Freya is basically the main character imo
the most beautiful part of the game is steiner and beatrix fighting side by side <3
Good video. I think that Suikoden 4 provides numerous instances where the silent protagonist falls flat and comes close to ruining scenes. This is emphasized all the more since the game has voice acting in big scenes but the protagonist stands mutely staring. The npcs will say how inspiring and charismatic the protagonist is, that they just draw others to them, and the protagonist just stands mutely staring. One might be tempted to attribute this solely to Suikoden 4 being rather mediocre, but it is a problem that seems to plague many rpgs. The only thing worse, perhaps, is the over talkative, try-hard protagonist that won't shut up.
I love this game! I finished this before ffvii and ffviii mainly because of its lighter tone and voice acting.
While Suikoden 2 may have elements that are better, there is no denying that Suikoden 1 has the far superior OST and one of the best in all of gaming
Suikoden 1 is in my top 5 fave games of all time and top 3 OSTs of all time
saga frontier 1 had a way better battle system - you could very easily regain your spell points my just swapping ur characters around
I agree with this review 100%. :)
That timeless artwork is freakin beautiful ❤️
Great video! Nice to see this game getting some love :)
R.I.P legend of dragoon DLC for PlayStation all stars battle Royal.
FF9 is unique but what irks me is how Freya's story is sidelined so fast and when she's sidelined in Alexandria for the whole of disk 2 and we have NO background as to where she went or how she was kept safe. Also Zidane could've hugged her at least once (they travelled together for a year). She went through so much and it's hardly acknowledged. Her ending as well is not the happy ending we wanted as it''s bittersweet. It makes it feel her 5 years was for nothing . I'll never forget her and how can I when she's so compelling.
Bro.. Where did you go🥲 I have been watching your videos lately and have really liked theme. You should play breath of fire v dragon quarter it insanely brilliant...ahead of its time. Dragon Quarter is a reboot so you don't need to play previous breath of fire games to enjoy this.
Life hit ya boy really hard. I'd definitely like to return at some point. I appreciate it!
Wow funny, played this as a kid and me and my few friends who also played all LOVED Mel's minigames.
Freya was super appreciated in my game plays. Dragons crest was op. Jump amd reis wind saved many battles for me while grinding or fighting bosses

This is my favorite game of my life, I got a copy in Japanese without understanding a single word of the language and yet I insisted on playing it due to the soundtrack and the game's art, which is beautiful, Gustave's story has captivated me since the first second, and I managed to understand it just by watching it unfold, a short time later I got a copy in English and even though I didn't know how to speak English at the time, I managed to finish the game when I was around 12 years old. As the timelines and the game are very complex, I felt that the story didn't come together with the care it should have, the feeling I had was that the game was made perfectly until half of it and the rest was done in a hurry and without the same Dear, another game that I had the same experience and the same feeling was Dragon Ball Z Rpg on the Snes, a great game with the same problem.
Your review is copied from someone else.
No it wasn't. Show me proof - I write all of my scripts and still have it.
@@HighLevelReviews maybe someone else has copied you, it's not a coincidence that you both say "Breath of Fire has no problem throwing straight into........." and show the same screen clips too, that's when I stopped watching, can't remember the other guy's name though.
@@zoa1-99....... Definitely someone plagiarized me. I'd love to know their name. I literally recorded all of these clips and edited them on my own.
@@HighLevelReviews I found it, I double checked it, he uses very similar wording but not exactly the same, so I may be wrong it's Hell Fire RPGs. It's at around 1:05 onwards in his v ideo I find sus.
@@zoa1-99....... i know hellfire, he's a cool dude. he definitely didn't plagiarize and neither did i - the first breath of fire is narratively sparse and the intro is one of the most action-packed segments of the entire game. i see nothing suspicious about either of our videos - of course we're going to use similar opening footage when we're talking about how quickly breath of fire gets going. go watch other bof reviews, they all mention how fast bof jumps into the thick of things and use that exact scene to complement the point they're making.
Why does the actual cover art look so Americanized, but when you open the case, the cover on the manual is with the actual anime characters!?
Great game but the first one is better I mean this game is in Saga franchise but it's not Saga we know.
4:21 I mean not every RPG is about the story. Most RPGs focus on customization, which doesn’t necessarily mean an amazing story.
3 exacting exhausting long chore playthroughs before you get, at the very earliest, your first relaxing do as you want playthrough for fun on your 4th time through the game. I stopped mid way through the 3rd. Chrono trigger took 9-14 hours of fun to get to that point. Cross takes like 130+ while performing a long specific faq guide check list.
Really loved this game in my childhood mostly because of the soundtrack, it's wonderful.
Played through the original US release fully 3 times. 88% of gameplay is the final weapons tasks, which are mostly awful, that then have nothing afterwards to use them on. Maxing the sphere grid made this the most FF6 like in late game character differentiation. The orignal sphere grid was miserable in what you needed to do to delete the bad parts and fill in with good parts and then retread the whole thing a second time with everyone once you finished constructing it. I did wish I played the version with the evil summons to fight and added content, but I just dont see myself doing the sphere grid editing dance for a 4th time to do that. The characters and what they were dealing with was also the most ff6 like in the rest of the series as far as quality. Also, I hate that I could not get back resources spent upgrading early game summons to use on late game ones, and using the system at all except on the final ones is a punished waste. No retries with the jecht shot jarringly edited cutscene in the whole game also would turn entire playthroughs into bitter miscarriages if failed. 120 hours later... sorry, still cannot get it. Restart the whole damn game just for it.
grwat video, i agree
I tried this game 4 times and each time I got to the early mine cave work pen jail whatever dungeon and stopped. The dungeons have just such an awful layout and organization and shape. Just unfun chores with no interesting elements at all, just "busy" ones. Prerendered backdrops that loop around on themselves and fit into each other in exhausting ways that are just unpleasant to mentally organize just for the sake of having them. Saga frontier and ff7 used them far better and within their limitations. I saw some late game play. Will someone explain the metaphor and allegory in the birth canal black hole attack, or does that take 50 hours of narrative to really understand?
I will say it. They ruined the game to make it more fair for encouraged online versus match play. It was the big trend on the psp at the time.
Data draining is a fun ability early on.. and then you get to quarantine... Im not gonna lie, I had to cheat several times or i would have dropped this game.
Genuinely, I think Freya is one of my favorite FF characters, and her theme is a huge part of it. I think she is really cool, and honestly would love to see her get called back in FF14 and future FF games.
