Any opinion on which is better to use: the factory navigation. vs. using Google Maps on Carplay or Android Auto? Mainly on the use of waypoints, but also in general, too

When Honda quit their online trip planner I switched to Harley Davidson. My first trip I planned, I was riding with a Harley owner, thank goodness, because when I loaded the second day ride, my goldwing showed a short route to the endpoint...none of the 8 hours of mountain road was listed. Back to the hotel business center, and loaded the ride to their computer, and all the stops were there. VERY Frustrating. Somone told me that you had to use destinations in HD for it to work with Honda. Frankly I dont know why Honda couldnt have just left their site up! I am too old for this crap!

That looks great, Anne, thanks very much for sharing. I am considering buying a GL1800DCT, and have been wondering how good the Nav is. It looks good. I've heard that the Nav Handbook is not very good, but with this video, you make it look quite user-friendly and with good features. When you have planned a trip, can you still select Fastest or Curvy route, to customise how the Nav will direct you in between planned way points?

I take it (with Harley) you cannot set a beginning and ending of the same place (home) and waypoints (so you can go for a ride and follow a route back home)? Because when I did, when I loaded it onto the wing, it just made the ride to and from home (basically going nowhere). UPDATE: Seems to be the same problem with Google Maps and MAPS to GPX, you cannot have a loop (same start and destination).

Great instructions Anne.. It all works exactly as you said but I cant seem to import a file from either my desktop or a thumb drive into the Honda app. It will let me choose the route as you show but when I choose import it says that this might take a few moments and then nothing happens. What am I doing wrong? Your help is appreciated

Very good video. Too bad the 2018 Goldwing will NOT follow your route. I have used almost everything on the market and nothing works on the navigation. I even planned a route that went in a straight line for 2.5 miles and the Honda navigation told me to make U-turns, turn left, turn right, turn around, etc. Nothing works. Yes, I have the latest navigation map and firmware installed. If this works for your PLEASE tell me how you do it. I know how to make the routes in Trip Planner and load them into the Honda navigation. The problem is that it is useless once you start to follow a route.

Anne, this is the easiest, most professional and thorough trip planner "how to" instructions I've ever seen!
