Need Ricotta cheese in dough.

I'm not sure what I did wrong but I made cottage cheese instead of Mozzarella! :( The only thing I did by mistake was to add the Rennet separately and then after about a minute of it setting I stirred in the water. I then let it rest but may be then the damage was done? What do people think what went wrong please?
