    Thanks for making this video! I'm used to using professional video editing software (Vegas Creative Software products since 2008 so like 16 years although I've tried for a couple months here or there free trials of other programs or the free HitFilm Express for a time etc -- tried Adobe Premiere Pro all the way back in 2007 I think too) but I use Descript for transcription purposes in my job so I thought I'd test out it's text-based editing to try to save me time with the type of video I'm currently making for this new CZcams channel of mine. But it's not good at the video editing, or I haven't figured it out yet. I don't have enough freedom to be particular about exactly where it cuts when it comes to deleting large chunks of text... and it might be sloppy when removing all the "ums" and whatnot and it seems very all-or-nothing with no nuanced choice in the matter... idk. I was trying to figure out if Davinci Resolve's or Premiere Pro's text-based editor might be more of what I'm looking for. But for now it seems maybe Premiere Pro but sadly not the free Davinci Resolve. And this video and the comments too saying how they've added more features since then really makes me want to try premiere pro...

    It is funny that since this video, adobe has put a lot of the features that were missing. They will definitely up their game.

    Is it possible to select text from a long form video to creat shorts/ clips in Premier like we can in Descript?

  • @visualprofessionals

    Spot on. For collaborative audio/video podcast production, and quick short form social media clips, Adobe has a way to go just to catch up with Descript. And today Descript demo'd new features that show signs of bearing the fruit of the OpenAI resources. But will Descript be able to attain true stability? I've been working with it weekly for 18 months and it's hands down the buggiest app experience I've ever had. Def looking forward to trying the browser-based version.

      You know that your bugs are bad when it comes up as a problem when comparing to Premiere Pro.

      Curious to know where Adobe stands 10 months later. Descript started out great but they haven't been able to keep up. Very buggy & their non-existent support makes it very shaky ground to build on content strategy. I have started trying out other options. Very curious where does Adobe stand now.

      Descript Is still the better mouse trap. Riverside is trying to compete. Adobe is focused on developing Photoshop to catch up with mid journey. So they haven’t progressed in making Premier catch up with Descript. And Premier continues to lose market share to da Vinci. Descript’s UI which mimics Google Docs, Is essential for managing productions with decentralized teams in which different roles and skill sets are represented and using the same interface. Riverside transcription and text base content. Editing is on par with Descript now. But their interface is nowhere near being competitive for teams. Premier is the same. That said, Descript continues to be the buggiest app I have ever consistently used. While I have had OK experiences with their support, especially when engaging them via Discord, to dread the frequent updates because they often introduce new bugs that require learning new workarounds. I don’t understand why some competitor doesn’t simply copy what they are doing and compete on stability. I would gladly switch to such a competitor in a heartbeat. we have to restart the script after crashes about five times for every 25 minutes audio podcast. Sometimes it remembers at what point in the timeline it crashed. Sometimes it will take you right back to that point. Other times it will remember, but it will take you right back to zero as soon as you hit play. The most hilarious new bug that they have failed to correct for months now is that when clicking on a comment , the timeline advances to the comment as it should, but then it immediately scrolls right back up to where you started unless you catch it and scroll in the direction. It’s as if the AI is a bratty kid. The workaround is to click on the comment after the one that you actually want. Then click on the comment you want going backwards in time. These are the kind of things you have to figure out about the app as it going concern. So for anyone working solo or working closely with an in-house team , I would say avoid Descript. But for decentralized team production, it is still the only game in town. 🤷‍♂️🤪

      @@professor-dad I can totally feel the frustration. I am a solo producer and my patience for Descript is running out and I don't even use 80% of their features. The basic itself keeps getting worse and worse. I haven't had much luck on Discord, and the channel monitors attitude to keep shushing me away really got to me. I want to start setting up another software. Agree, anyone else could have easily copied their model and made it more robust and could win the game. I use Riverside for recording and have been noticing their consistent improvement however, interface is not very inviting. But curious, is it possible to edit into scenes on Riverside?

  • @christophercarsonsmith5088

    I’m not sold. If you have to import and export XMLs to get your work back into Premiere, that’s a major deal breaker. Ain’t no professional editor got the time to go back to a separate program to find words to Frankenbite.

    • @donathanvideo
      @donathanvideo Před rokem

      That’s a good point. I would probably just stay in Premiere and use the text based editing there after the first xml import.
