My buddy and I lip-synced this song while wearing animal skins for a high school talent show in New York in 1962. I saw the first release at a movie theater where I lived back in the day in 1957. I was so taken emotionally that I became infactuated with Tammy (Debbie Reynolds) - she played a character that was innocent, charming, and beautiful - swept me off my feet at a young age.

I remember this one every word, especially so obviously Pommy made it even funnier, thanks. Having lived for over 30 years in Alice really enjoyed the pictures too!

I think if the song was supposed to be a racist attack on Australia's aboriginal people it would have beem very different from how it was written. I think you'll have a hard time finding any native Australians who sound anything like Charlie Drake and he just did it in his own funny voices rather than any bad mocking mimic of an Australian. I wish I heard the song more often.
