This is a fabulous idea, very ingenious and straightforward. I hate wasting batteries on things that could easily be plugged in. We have a wireless outdoor thermometer and the indoor part chews through batteries like crazy. I’m definitely doing this.

Excellent and timely video! I'm doing some mods to tweak the water flow and this helped a bunch. It's a blind assembly and learning about the spring loaded/press fit did the trick. I was able to get it back together pretty easily using a vise with plastic jaws which kept the shower head from getting scratched up. Easy peasy!

This was a big help. The final mile reassembly is quite hard, but I found that if you push the pivot ball in far enough you can flip it over to the shower side and squeeze it together. The wrench did work to push that pivot ball far enough in. Thanks again!

Some elaboration on the process: Remove the showerhead as described, then thread a short piece of 1/2" iron pipe into the showerhead. Turn the showerhead face down on two boards, with the white plastic face and rubber nipples clear of the wood and the wood supporting the face of the metal cover. Give the iron pipe solid whacks with a mallet/hammer until the showerhead insides fly out. The ball of the ball-and-socket will stay on the iron pipe. Clean the innards as described in the video. When reassembling, put the showerhead innards face down on the floor or someplace sturdy, slip the metal cover over them, then insert the ball with the iron pipe still attached. SIMULTANEOUSLY push down on the iron pipe (until the ball is pushed deep within the innards of the showerhead) AND force the metal cover down. With enough force, it will snap in place.

You can take out that entire unit -the cylinder with the ball- just by getting a screwdriver and putting it under the lip of the very outside edge & pry up gently. Just buy a new ball clasp at Menards or order on line. Put the new unit back into the hole. It comes in a little package that has the drive-in cylinder and a strike plate with a couple of screws. I didn’t use the strip plate -all I wanted was the drive-in cylinder and it worked beautifully.

  • @NolandBell

Yeah that reassembly didn't work for me at all. That metal ball piece popped out and the rest popped into place, basically ruining the whole unit.

Hi thanks for the tips. Disassemble was great. Have a tip for the last step of snapping the ball in place. Turn the assembly upside down from where you have it in the video. Then press down on the white perforated plastic piec until the ball is where you want it inside the plastic (all the way down as far as possible). While continuing to press down on the perforated plastic piece (keeping the ball in place), simply pull up un the brass trumpeted piece snapping it into place. Hope this works for everyone else.
