FAQ- WHY DO WE NEED TO REVERSE THE SLIDER IN HARMONICA - BENEFITS??? In Indian music, we use notation and SARGAM (ie. Sa , Re , Ga, Ma). This helps to explain easily. We represent the Indian Music, notation with (@ in 1 Octave) = 7 basic notes known as SUDDH SWAR. ie. *S - R - G- M- P- Dh or D - N*- S' and 5 Komal/ Tivra SWAR ie Komal- Re (r), Komal Ga (g), Tivra- Ma (m), Komal Dh (d); Komal Ni (n) So 7+ 5 = we have 12 Notes in an Octave. Shown as below with Ways of playing in Harmonica with BLOW (B) & DRAW (D) & by pressing the Slider~>, Blow (b) & Draw (d)👇 S-r-R-g-G-M-m-P-d-Dh-n-N-S' B-d-D-b-B-D-b-B- d- D- d-D-B *******-b-d-D-b-B-***-D-d-b-B ALSO you can play G, N in 2 ways:- G by Blow(B) or alternatively by pressing Slider play G by draw(d). N by Draw (D) or alternatively by pressing Slider play N by blow(b). This Slider reversal technique had solved playing of many Indian (Hindi, Bengali etc; ie Bollywood, Tollywood, Bhajans, Rabindra Sangeet etc) songs that is Raga based song with Chromatic notes - in Harmonica in less cumbersome manner even after pressing the Slider. Playing Harmonica by pressing Slider too much, is indeed cumbersome, Burden and makes the song more unnecessaryly Staccato (not musical to ears) whereas the original song demands smooth playing with use of "Meeed" or "Murky / Harkat" (slides or Slides/ Hammer/ bending 8n strings used in Guitar, Sitar etc ie string instrument). However in some cases Slider is also used Judiciously by Harmonica Virtuoso (eg Larry Adler, Milon Gupta, Saikat Mukherjee, Premangshu Chatterjee & others..) to bring smoothness in playing. LET ME EXPLAIN WITH AN EXAMPLE Eg Mere Naina Sawon Bhado-- where the murky in "Bhaa--do- o- o-- on" (notation- P-D-DnDn-DP) (played in Harmonica - B-D-DdDd-DP) is done by pressing Slider with Reversal Slider fitting arrangment. Pl. Note that quaver or semi-quaver eg (notation) DnDn is played in Harmonica (reverse slider arrangement) as DdDd (all Draw Notes, one just need to press the slider in proper way). But in Normal Slider position These Komal Ni (n) is played by Blow (b) so playing the DnDn would be DbDb which is very cumbersome & spoils the mood of this song. I hope I am able to clarify with the above example ,🙏♥️👍🎉
