Enrique was indeed a native of Malacca City. His family originated from Sumatra as a Minangkabau, Suku Seri Melenggang (Suku mean tribe in Malay). The Minangkabau people had migrated to Rembau (near Malacca City) centuries before. Magellan called him Mulatto because the Minang people had intermarried with the indigenous people like the Jakun tribe, giving him a similar appearance. After the massacre at a banquet held by Rajah Humabon in the Philippines, he returned to Rembau and was glorified with the name Datuk Laut Dalam, meaning 'Deep Sea Warrior' in Malay. He brought along his wife, who was a Javanese lady, had his first daughter in 1524. He became the first leader/Penghulu in Rembau in 1540 alongside another warrior named Datuk Lela Balang. Enrique had four daughters in total and established new villages in Rembau, naming those vilages with names starting with 'Pulau' (Island), such as Pulau Bukit, Pulau Hanyut, Pulau Mampat... Datuk Laut Dalam is Enrique de Malacca..A Malay/Minang guy from Rembau in MALAYSIA! All these facts are available! Learn about Datuk Laut Dalam of Rembau in N. Sembilan in Malaysia (very close to Malacca city)

This video was fantastic. 😊 Absolutely love the history. I even have Kapwa tattooed on my forearm so that other Americans ask me what it means. And then gives me an opportunity to explain Filipino culture. In January I flew from Georgia in the United States to Cebu to visit the site of the battle between Ferdinand Magellan and Lapu-Lapu. Thank you for creating this video. As a non-filipino I do thoroughly enjoy learning about Filipino history. ❤️🇵🇭

I think Enrique de Malacca is pure Malay, native in Malaysia. Just like other slave that time, he's one of them. He's one of the victim of circumstances. I agree, that he's the first Asian to travel across the Globe. Thanks to Magellan for hiring him. Haha. But in the end, I think. Enrique de Malacca decided to be with Cebuano after the death of Magellan. Because he knew that, being with Spanish voyager, he knew that his freedom will never granted. So the best way free himself by this slavery, is to be sided with Cebuano people. Yeah, in Spanish people that time, and to other Spanish Voyager. Enrique de Mallaca is proven traitor. But in reality, his decision to abandon the Spanish voyager was the best and brightest decision. I wasn't sure in the end, what happened to Enrique de Mallaca. Because I am also thinking that maybe, he experienced the same fate, happened to Magellan. Yes, he was a Polygot that can speak more than for languages. But it doesn't mean that he's Cebuano. So for sure, to Cebuano people they see Enrique de Mallaca as not native Cebuano. So there's a possibility that he was also killed by other Cebuano that time or years later. Other possibility, he live a life after residing to Cebu. An he see himself as Cebuano in a way that he can still speak and talk Cebuano. Possibility that he chosen Cebu as his home. Because he sees and feel some traits similar to him when he was living in Malacca (Malaysia). For me, I consider him as Malaysian. Not to give credits to Malaysian. I only relied on real evidence based on Spanish voyager documentation. Because he was first discovered by Magellan in Mallaca. But I understand that somehow, people sees Elrique de Mallaca's story and adventure as fascinating. That's why they claim his origin and linked to the Cebuano, or to Filipinos or linked to Indonesian. One thing is for sure. Enrique de Mallaca is a pure SOUTH EAST ASIAN person.
