Big Astronomy: People, Places, Discoveries
A great deal of astronomy is done in the nation of Chile, due to its special climate and location, which creates stable, dry air. With its high, dry, and dark sites, Chile is one of the best places in the world for observational astronomy. “Big Astronomy: People, Places, Discoveries” explores three observatories located in Chile, at extreme and remote places. It gives examples of the multitude of STEM careers needed to keep the great observatories working. The show is narrated by Barbara Rojas-Ayala, a Chilean astronomer.

I have this excavation kit and it doesn't really use these tools it uses: a kind of hammer thing with a saw on the end a brush some sort of thing I can't really name maybe a bit like the handle of a popsicle

I have come across many CZcams videos that basically explain the process you have shared with us today. However, all these videos are focused on dinosaur aged fossils which are entrapped in stone. I have Ice Age fossils, and these bones are collected mostly intact and are not entrapped in hard stone. I need to know how to preserve the bone after its been pulled from their Ice Age graves. I've noticed that if left untreated these bones are subject to flaking and cracking. I know a major European Fossil dealer and they advise me to clean the bones with tap water (not to be submerged in the water), allow them to dry (not in direct sunlight). When they are dry, preserve again with a solution of glue and acetone, 1 to 2 (1 part glue and 2 parts acetone) as they were originally treated. They specified that the glue has to be a clear glue, but did not specify the brand. They advised I can apply this mixture with a brush and that the mixture is highly flammable. I did come across another video that advises to clean the fossil and once dried to apply Mode Podge a water-based sealer that drys clear. I looked on eBay and it seems that it can be purchased in a matte or gloss finish and is non-toxic & inexpensive. They used the gloss finish and in my opinion it looked very unnatural and would have used the matte finish. Another video advised using a 50/50 mixture of Elmer's glue and water, it did not mention what kind of finish the bone would receive using this solution once dry. Last comment, I purchased these bones on line and I had some of these treated bones stored in a plastic container and they got wet during a rain storm. These bones have a strong smell of mildew and need to be washed, dried and preserve all over again. The few of the untreated bones that were dry I noticed are starting to crack. All of the bones come from Europe or Siberia and were found in grave pits, fresh water or the North Sea. All these bones come from the Irish elk (megaloceros giganteus) or also know as the Giant Deer. Your thoughts? Here is my emailed address if you care to write me back (umimak16@gmail.com) - thanks Leo

PVA and acetone is the combination I've been advised to use on fossils such as yours. Polyvinyl acetate, as PVA B-15 Beads is what I bought from the Black Hills Institute of Geological Research, in South Dakota. The prepared adhesive can be painted on the specimen in the field and then dissolved off at home if needed. I've used very thin Starbond cyanoacrylate adhesive for most of my stabilization work on opal in wood from Nevada.
