How To: Take X-rays at Home on a Budget
Disclaimer: Do not attempt to use this method to take X-rays of any living thing (including yourself). The dose of radiation you will receive is many many times higher than what you would normally be exposed to.

Thermite vs Masterlock Showdown! Who Will Win?

See description for timestamps to each lock tested! Thermite is a powdered mixture of a metal oxide alongside a reducing metal capable of producing temperatures over 2200C. The most popular version shown in this video uses iron oxide and aluminum powder. The optimal stoichiometric ratio of black iron(II,III) oxide to aluminum powder is 3.22 to 1 by weight (2.96 to 1 if red iron(II) oxide is to ...

In addition to just being a lab tour, I did my best to provide some tips and guidance based on my experience that is aimed at helping out the new amateur...
How to Extract Yellowcake from Uranium Ore (Autunite) at Home
zhlédnutí 22KPřed 5 lety
In this video we take a look at an amateur accessible route to obtaining a pure uranium compound of known stoichiometry, which can be used for future experiments. Note: The uranium peroxide can be carefully heated at around 300°C to obtain orange UO3, which dissolves more readily in a variety of acids to produce other desired uranium compounds. Care should be taken to not overheat, or else brow...

    Please please tell me what uranitite printing is do you simply mean placing radiograph paper beneath it or is it something different

    • @unpairedelectron2886
      @unpairedelectron2886 Před měsícem

      I think you mean uranotype printing. It does not use the radioactive properties and instead the light sensitivity of some uranium compounds, just like how film photography uses the light sensitive properties of silver salts. can you do a video on extracting Radium from ore next?

    • @thesciencefurry
      @thesciencefurry Před 4 měsíci

      I tried it out, put some barium carbonate into the ore then dissolve the ore in nitric acid like in the video. After that add sulfuric acid, this will precipitate out the radium/barium sulfate. (you need a bit of barium because there is too little radium to have a precipitate you can then get out of the solution)

    • @MyProjectsTV
      @MyProjectsTV Před 6 měsíci

      If really anything else is left behind it should be less radioaktive. Because a lot of the radiation is coming from decay products like radium I think.

    Beautiful Lab! Some additional suggestions I would also recommend an addition of railing to stop your reagents from falling down. I would also suggest obtaining a new shelf as it’s bowing under the weight of the particle board shelf that is the only thing keeping reagents separate,safe,secured from accidental failure of your shelving. Also consider some more chlorinated hydrocarbons Everything else is above and beyond!

      the amount of radiation you will get by running this for a few minutes will be less than a plane flight. the reason why radiologists have to have to much safety equipment is just because they are constantly working with them, but if its just a minute or so a few times to run an experiment it aint gonna kill you

    • @inductivelycoupledplasma6207
      @inductivelycoupledplasma6207 Před rokem

      @@EdwardTriesToScience not true man. A dental x ray tube can produce dose rates in the Sv/h close to the tube (a few feet away). Running it for a few minutes could expose you to many many years, or even decades of background radiation exposure if you're standing in the main beam. X rays are no joke. Of course, it's unlikely that a few mSv will cause cancer or any other consequences long term, but it's still unnecessary exposure.

      Thanks for subscribing! I highly doubt it, since the process is very finicky, and it is difficult to achieve the required supersaturation from cooling a salt solution (the NaCl solubility curve is very flat).
