Germinating Tobacco seeds cherry red and white mammoth
zhlédnutí 12Před 2 měsíci
To germinate tobacco seeds, prepare a shallow tray with well-draining soil mix and lightly press the seeds onto the surface, ensuring good contact with the soil. Place the tray in a warm, well-lit area, ensuring the soil stays consistently moist. Be patient as germination can take 7 to 14 days. Once seedlings develop their first true leaves, transplant them into individual pots or the garden. P...

      Thank you, nice! they're beautiful plants and can grow tall depending on the strain. I am about to cut the Havana 142 in small 1 gallon pots and I am starting Cherry Red and Mammoth. Victory Seed Company had a wide range of seeds.

      @@greentree916 I’m trying to see what is the best and easiest way to ferment them everybody has a different way

      @@BUDYOND I agree, it's not quite clear on how to properly ferment, maybe it's a topic that is hard to explain. Anyway, I am curing them for 6+ months is a cardboard box, then use a zip lock and a mister to hydrate them for 24 hours before I shred them for smoking tobacco. I am very surprised, the flavor is full and smooth after it is well cured. Time does the trick. I am not the right person to share info on fermenting tobacco but keeping the well cured leaves in a well misted ziplock for 24 hours will make the leaves flexible, soft and stretchable without cracking up or breaking. They are ready to use at this point. Fermenting however is a completely different labour intensive process. as I understand, they need to be hydrated accurately and kept in a pile and well inspected and moved position everyday for years. The temp is supposed to rise up. That's my 2 cents on fermenting tobacco.

    Quite hard I find to get them started

      depending on the weather condition, indoor can be an option to germinate. some varieties have a higher success rate so sprinkle 2 or 3 different variety seeds onto the surface and using a mister wet the seeds to make contact and stay moist, but uncovered. they require light to germinate and may take up to 2 weeks. good luck

    Do you use any fertilizer?

      Not for germination, I am getting great results with FoxFarms Ocean Forest. You can add cow compost later on during transplant but with a good potting mix germination has very high success rate. Ocean Forest Potting Soil brings good things from the Earth and sea! It is the ultimate potting soil that has everything your plants need, all in one bag. Ocean Forest is a powerhouse blend of premium earthworm castings and fish and crab meal. Composted forest humus, sandy loam, and sphagnum peat moss give Ocean Forest its light, aerated texture.

    How do you seperate the clumps of growth? How do you repot each single plant?

    • @greentree916
      @greentree916 Před 5 měsíci

      I fill a small tub with water, then gently break a clump of the germinated tobacco and dunk it in the tub of water and gently rinse off all the potting mix. Now each seedling becomes easy to pull apart without disturbing the root zone and plant it in a 3 gallon pot or your desired pot size. 5 gallons pots will produce a tall plant with broad leaves. Tobacco is a resilient plant and is very easy to grow. Use cow manure or nitrogen rich soil mix, they will love the nitrogen. I will see if I can make a video on how to do that, I do have 3 strains in this exact seedling stage right now.
