    I wonder if that evap leak is a leaking purge valve, spilling fuel vapor into the intake causing your rich condition. I guess I don't understand the high pressure fuel pump action. Isn't fuel trim adjusted by the time the injectors are on? Or, do vehicles with a high pressure pump react differently to adjust fuel trim?

    • @fixingcarswith15thstautomo36
      @fixingcarswith15thstautomo36 Před 12 dny

      The problem we had with the high pressure fuel pump was caused by a failing pressure control valve in the pump sticking on. When these purge valves leak they will cause rich conditions but usually only with a freshly filled fuel tank. Otherwise they cause a lean condition, sucking air out of the tank past the open vent control valve.

    • @fixingcarswith15thstautomo36
      @fixingcarswith15thstautomo36 Před 16 dny

      Those have lots of problems with cracks in the evap hoses. Look where the hoses connect to tee's or switches/valves. The hoses will split and leak. Other than that Leak Detection Pumps are common. But hoses are by far the biggest offenders.

      What tests have you done? Looks like you have pulled some codes, but that’s not testing. Those codes point to a power problem with the speed sensors in the transmission. Look at a wiring schematic and see if those two sensors share a power source. If it’s a fuse check that fuse.

    two thing 1. wish yo would have pulled up the fuel pressure regulator command. Watch the command from the computer during the decel to see if the computer is actually trying to bring the fuel rail pressure down.(not sure if this GDI system used a regulator that when the solenoid is turned up causes the pressure to rise or if it causes it to lower when the solenoid is turned on) If the command is there make sure it actually happening with a scope while driving. 2. Disconnect the PCV system while the car is in the bay and plug the lines up to prevent a vacuum leak and see what the fuel trims would do. If they go normal the pump is leaking into the crank case. Just another way to confirm your diagnosis.

    Question. So my car is stilk throwing the p0420 code. My mechanic had already replaced the upstream o2 sensor maybe twice. Replaced the cat with two aftermarket and lastly also 1 oem cat. Still throws the code with a factory cat. Also a 2016 cruze lt limited. What else could be the issue?

    • @fixingcarswith15thstautomo36
      @fixingcarswith15thstautomo36 Před 20 dny

      The code sets because the rear O2 sensor is overly active. The rear O2 sensor will have a nearly flatline signal at about 600 mv when a healthy catalytic converter is functioning properly. If the O2 sensor is still fluctuating between 200 mv and 800 mv then there is either an exhaust leak around the catalytic converter or the converter is weak. Aftermarket cats can be poor quality and do this, but OEM cats will usually function well. I would check rear O2 sensor operation (force the mixture super lean and see if it drops to low voltage and then force the mixture super rich and see if the voltage goes high) otherwise check for any exhaust leaks than could introduce stray oxygen into the exhaust stream that might change the rear O2 sensor reading.

    What do you recommend if the discharge line(high pressure connection point that goes_connects to the bottom on the expansion gets damaged resulting in a leak. Due to the circumfrence point (end of the line being damaged)😅

    • @fixingcarswith15thstautomo36
      @fixingcarswith15thstautomo36 Před 24 dny

      Depends on the damage. If it's got a small hole in it, it can be removed and then tig welded up. If it's beyond repair then those AC lines are still available. It's a big job to replace but doable. You can also bypass the rear AC altogether and just have front AC. There are block off kits, or you can simply replace the high side line from condensor to evap and Low side line from evap to compressor with non-rear AC parts. Lots of options to get some cool air back in the vehicle.

    Wise words, to avoid butt connectors at points where the wire is put through frequent recurring motion. Even a solder joint at that point may not last. Your decision to use wire only in the moving segment will hopefully give a permanent fix.

    I have a 2012 dodge caravan and my ac light use to blink and then after weeks past by it never came back on any more. Why u think it doesn't turn on anymore. It doesn't blow cold air at all

    • @fixingcarswith15thstautomo36
      @fixingcarswith15thstautomo36 Před 29 dny

      The AC light blinks because HVAC control module sees a problem (low pressure, faulty switch, shorted clutch, etc) Why the light stopped flashing, I don’t know, probably the control module has shut the system down. If you fix the original problem with the AC system the light will be able to be reset and not blink anymore.

    with that particular O2 sensor code don't waist your time looking at scan data to see how the O2 sensor is behaving you have to look at it on a scope. That rich to lean and lean to rich test is required to be done in 50-100 milliseconds. You will never be able to see that kind of detail with scan tool data the refresh rate is too slow. Check the fuel trims if they are all under + or - 10% at all loads check for exhaust leaks around that sensor and if all that is good toss a sensor in it.
