Before stepping into his current role, Joel honed his skills at ATCO’s Red Deer distribution operation center, primarily working as a Pressure Control Operator. In this role, he became adept at maintaining different types of regulator stations and spearheading new constructions, setting a foundation of excellence and expertise.
Aside from his illustrious career in gas control operation, Joel is also a proud graduate of the Audiovisual Communications program at MacEwan University. Leveraging his education, he engaged in print and digital design projects across Canada. I think it’s definitely important to inform people about the different title and certification we actually have, but I definitely don’t get offended when people who have no idea of the difference call me a masseuse.
I teach the difference to maintain good ethics surrounding the profession. We are people of integrity.

I am also a mechanical engineer (at least that what my university told me) I've applied to over 1000 jobs (only 2 interviews = 0 job offer) To say I am lost is an understatement. I've been playing this losing game for 2 years in may 2024. what would u do in my shoes ?
Hi Richard, I reached out to Colin to see if he has any comments. Personally speaking, my contract work slowly came to a stand still and I was looking for something steady for about a year. It's not a great feeling. Keep going, it wasn't until I started to network that I finally found success. And that was reaching out to someone that I went to college with 23 years ago. Networking and getting your name out there is the only way to do it. Forget blindly dropping off resumes or leaning on any of the online job platforms. So much competition out there, your resume will get lost. Talk to as many people as you can, even reach out to former instructors to see if they know anyone. You just need that one break or one conversation to turn it around. It'll come, just be persistent.

I was taught in massage school, to never allow anyone to call me a masseuse. I educate my clients about the difference between a Massage Therapist vs a masseuse.😊

That isn't my experience with the Police. I know of many great people who do this difficult and often thankless job.
New graduates in mechanical engineering nowadays are given a laptop and told to answer emails and occasionally approve tests or engineering documents but a lot of engineering nowadays is just taking existing products (think cars) and slightly modifying them then approving them so not a lot of excitement

Yes adevice. I highly respect the firefighters and EMS as my father was both and my brother was a firefighter. Both of them volunteer. My life was saved by an off duty firefighter when I was hurt badly in the line of duty. I have been treated with great disdain by a firefighter who taught my class as he put it "i can't believe I have to teach you guys" and he said if someone was having a diabetic attack we would just shoot them then he would have to come and clean up after us. I do not know what his problem was but he definitely helped to create a divide.
