Good reaction. They were using shanti with the Indian meaning of peace - repeated 3 times peace in body, mind and spirit (or thought, word and deed ... you will know a lot better than I do). The lyrics talk of shakras, kharma and so on as well. This was their homage to India and Indian (or Bollywood) music right from the sitar (yes that was what you were hearing) at the start through to the tamba drums, Su-metal's vocal style and even the choreography was as authentic as they could make it. We have had Indian dancers react to this song and praising them for how accurate and true to Indian dance they were. Moametal said how hard it was to get the hand movements just right as they were so different to any of the hand movements she may have known being Japanese and they always want to be respectful and try to make their movements faithful to the musical style and culture of the song. Unfortunately the video editor really got carried away with the kaleidoscope effects - you would need to watch a live performance to really see the choreo in full. This song was from the Metal Galaxy album (their third) where they explored different musical styles from around the world in some of the songs ('Night Night Burn' has a very Latin feel for example). On their most recent album released in 2023 there is another song that a lot of people also mistake for being Indian ... but it is not Indian, if anything it is Middle Eastern / Arabic / Egyptian inspired Psy-Trance Metal. That song is called 'Metalizm'.

They brought back SSS (Shanti x3) last year at live shows in Asia and Australia, and was one of the regular songs in their setlist, i think is cool because is one of the songs is usually favorite among the female fans, they didn't at Europe and UK Tour but this year in March they did it again at Legend MM "20 Night" celebrating MomoMetal's birthday, and later at Legend 43 in Okinawa. This journey to Metal Galaxy on their 3rd album from 2019 got a lot of songs picking up rhythms from all over the world and combine with the unique sound of BM. SSS got some clear Indian influence and elements, others songs got folk metal or latin rhythms, or Thai rap, so this journey is wild. They got another song in latest album with a title referred to Hindu mythology called "MAYA" but the sound is nothing like this, also METALIZM is another song with Middle East or Arabian sounds. The third backup dancer or "avenger" in the official MV is Kano Fujihira, just remember none of them got official name revealed and aren't official members, but that status changed recently with MomoMetal. MoaMetal talked about this saying it was one of the hardest choreo to match up and get in sync with every one of the avenger, especially at Legend Metal Galaxy 2020 when all the avengers switch up in the same show (also taking it a break) while Moa performing the full set. Nice reaction - and feel free to react to as many different versions and performances of BABYMETAL's songs as you want to, they are all that bit different or special in their own way.🦊 This video was released in 2013 - Su-metal was 15, Yuimetal and Moametal both 13 nearly 14. You already know the meaning of the song and what it is all about from your reaction to the live performance, so no need for me to repeat that all over again. Most of the video was shot on location at the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo. This has become a place of pilgrimage for BABYMETAL fans visiting Tokyo. The guys at the back waving the traditional instruments about were dancers with the lady who did the fan dance's troupe. You will never see the Kami Band in the official videos unless they are from live performances - and you will only hear them in the official videos if the word "Live" is in the title (the Kami Band do not record the studio/album versions of the songs).

Megitsune is one of the few songs that I recommend reacting to the MV first, as it is really cool, but I always recommend the live versions because they sound better.

This is another BM fans favorite song and is already a classic one they don't wanna leave behind in any of their setlist when performing live such last June at Europe Tour as well at FOX_ FEST Festival last weekend of May when they even opened up the festival with a exclusive remix version and dance called "Akago Kinzoku" dancing with a hand-fan. This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 (Yui and MoaMetal) and 15 yo (SuMetal), so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri). "Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them. During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance. The pig squeals are just a backing track and is credited to no one as well many more growlings and harsh vocals you can hear during early era. In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox. "Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself. When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" mic she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it. Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top favorite songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts. The origin of the "fox sign" is kinda long to explain but here's a short summary: The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. “Nai Nai Nai Bah” is the equivalent of the English game you play with babies, Peekaboo. Here they are cleverly playing with it to also make it an existential cry/anthem for the very normal feeling of students who feel like they don’t belong. It was the first AG song I heard. I still love it.

Nice one. Resurrection Fest was in Spain ... this was during the Electric Callboy set so BABYMETAL joined them on stage - during BABYMETAL's set Nico and Kevin from EC joined BABYMETAL and they did it all over again. They had done the same at two festivals in Germany (Rock im Park and Rock am Ring) and there is an official live video from the first times they played it live together - that was at the Fox_Fest events BABYMETAL arranged and hosted in Tokyo.

So the original version is about a girl's coming of age and her going to her first concert on her 15th birthday. For this version, they changed the lyrics so it says 20 instead of 15 since this was the last day Momo was 20 years old (Night of 20).

Do you want to see them singing before Babymetal? Search for songs by the group Sakura Gakuin. SuMetal was a member between 2010 and 2012. Moa and Yui between 2010 and 2014. MomoMetal between 2015 and 2017. Look for music from this era. I recommend My Graduation Toss (SuMetal) and Heart No Hoshi (Moa and Yui). From MomoMetal I recommend a theater performance. She sings and plays the character Elisabeth in the play Tango in the Campania.

Legend MM were the concerts celebrating Momometal's 21st birthday on 2nd and 3rd March this year - this was during the first concert (Night of 20) the day before her birthday (Night of 21), so it was the last day of her being 20 ... and so she got to perform the special version of 'Headbanger' - and she got to "show her fangs" with the growls. Momometal performed as an Avenger since 2019 supporting Su and Moa as a dancer - she became the official third member on 1st April 2023, so she was already 20 by that time. Only fancam videos exist for YuiBanger. Look for 'BABYMETAL - Headbanger - YUIMETAL Sings'

Always react to live versions. To give the long story short when this album was released they were children. Now they’re women In their 20’s. Their voices have matured so much. For the better. And Yui metal had to leave due to health reasons. Momo metal replaced her. And she is the “screamer” and backup vocals with Moa metal. Su metal is lead. Rant over, I fuggin love Babymetal

Good reaction. 'Megitsune' is a big favourite, often coming top in fan polls and it is the song they have played live more times than any other. It is also arguably the song that showcases better than most what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments (shamisen or koto, I have no idea on the difference) in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains the fox mask Su had) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive. It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional subservient female role in Japanese society saying that is changing I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength. They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not deceptive kitsune (foxes), they are maiden-like megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong. The melody used in the intro and the breakdown in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms). When Su spoke a few words and did a high kick she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss. The official music video was released in 2013 (yes do another reaction, it is a good one) - Su-metal was 15, Yuimetal and Moametal both 13 nearly 14. Their choreo is bespoke for each song, so it is interpretive and relates to the meaning of their songs ... but possibly even more importantly it is designed to include and involve the audience in their live shows. When the girls jump, pump a fist, do a specific move etc the audience follows their lead. At the Budokan 2021 concerts there were very strict rules for the audience to obey because of the pandemic, so the capacity was halved and the crowd were not allowed to shout or to mosh. They could wave, clap, stamp their feet, jump up and down, but they had to stay in their place - that was why Su, Moa and Momoko had them do a Mexican Wave rather than what would have normally happened in other shows.

The long intro is pretty usual at live performance and is called "Megitsune Extended Intro", they start with the breakdown spoilers and that's why I don't recommend live version for first time watching, if you want to come back and listen again this with the original trio, highly recommend you to watch the official MV, you'll see a lot more of japanese elements and fox imagery that is their trademark. During FOX_FEST last May they did another live version called Akago Kinzoku with the girls dancing with a hand-fan over a remix version of Megitsune. This is a live compilation from Budokan 2021 celebrating their 10 BABYMETAL Years (there were 10 different shows throughout 4 months and this one was performed in all these concerts that's why you didn't notice the difference in the editing, and that's the reason this is a fine and decent live compilation after all), the avenger or third backup dancer here was Momoko Okazaki, a former Sakura Gakuin member just like our girls, which last year become the new official member as MomoMetal. The Kami Band got a rotation on guitars too but without dropping any high quality level and they're wearing a new gear on their costumes since 2019, like the masks and black burial robes. Due to pandemic restrictions these 10 live concerts series were reduced to half capacity, the crowd wasn't allowed to mosh'sh, crowd surfing or shout without face mask, instead they can stomp their feet, clap their hands or doing a human wave, at least they can do something to participate in this epic and memorable date event. The crowd sound here were played from the speakers so no real crowd sound. And the "crowd wave", similar to soccer stadium at World Cup, was introduced for the first time here to give the crowd something fun to interact, Flugelhorn from Japan will give you more details since he was there in almost every concert. Budokan 2021 marks their 10 years anniversary celebration and seal the Metal Resistance chapter along with another seal for the group, luckily that seal is already broken. They always love to show their kawaii side, especially on songs like these, but at the same time SuMetal is trying to improve when singing this song, she said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she's doing sound check with this song before live concerts during live tour, is a quintessential BM song and is always a work in progress. She said: _"On the count of three, everyone jump up with the Fox God"_ They're totally pro at crowd participation and leading to them doing what they want by this time, easy job, who wouldn't want to be guide by our queen and princess, sore!
