HBO Intro - Behind the Scenes
This was shown between features in 1983 on how they made the HBO Starship in Space logo sequence. Very cool.

Leon River flood Texas 6-29-07

Just outside De Leon, Texas on Hwy 6. This small river is normally about 50 feet wide bank to bank and is just a trickle at this part of the river. It's now big enough for water skiing or boating but all those buried barbed wire fences might get in the way.
Lightning - Comanche County, Texas

May 1, 2007. This is pretty lame for lightning but it's about all that was going on at the time. I slowed it way down for more effect.
HBO intro 1983

HBO music intro 1983. This one came from the Little River Band concert. It's a bit shorter than the movie intro. I also have the "making of" video posted. Check it out.
That music. You could hear it anywhere in the house and just get excited for what was on. Amazing how far this technology has come along. We are very spoiled with the shear volume of media available whenever we want. Kind of miss the specialness of family times to watch scheduled shows and movies.
Best affects, best music, best prices.
Now they could fly a drone over a city to recreate that. That into was epic as a kid in the 80s, that was family time.
i remember me and my cousin sat on our grandmas shag carpet and watched this, i think it was similar to a hollywood effects show.. we wanted to be movie prop and effects guys after seeing this, i think we were like 10 or 12 years old haha
They even got the NYC streetlights and double guywire traffic light mastarms spot on!!!
I wanted to find a link where I could list my comment under the HBO theme. This is the best theme for ANY of these streaming platforms, hands-down!! And it’s been a long time since I’ve heard it. I’ve actually been looking for it and today’s the first time I found it. I’d like this as a ringtone! And to the guy that did some of the painting- awesome job dude!! I do a little painting and building stuff myself and I know it takes a certain mindset and it takes patience and you have to be detail oriented. So thank you for helping to create the most memorable opening theme song ever. And that song does say “ hey! you’re getting ready to see an awesome movie!!” When the music starts, I swear I can hear my family yelling to “hurry up! The movie is starting!!”
Friday nights were so much fun...
I'm glad they made sure to include the Hookers on the corner.
I remember there being one where the HBO came out of a big treasure chest. I can’t seem to find it on here.
WOW....Smh..👍🏾👌🏾💪🏾 The Hard Work You Guys put Into 3 Months Of Designing This Set Up😎...Big Ups To The Producers (Anthony Love) An (James E Kowalski) And The Composers And Others For Makin this Happen💪🏾💯
potato-cam video quality.
This is great. So… what’s the condition/location of that model today I wonder.
I loved scale models and still build for fun. My folks got HBO when I was a kid and I have fond memories of this intro. I even recall seeing this behind the scenes at some point. As others have pointed out this is amazing special effects work considering how much the industry has advanced technologically. The theme music is also iconic and a powerful albeit brief composition.
So nostalgic. I remember so many nights see that epic intro sequence just to be a movie I'd already seen or had not interest in seeing come up and changing the channel.
“Little hookers giving little blowjobs” -Johnny Sac
Thank-you!
😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂🫡
This song has been my ringtone for about a year now!
Still gives me goosebumps. From back when I was too young to have any real worries.
I was born in 1984 i remember being in the living rm at times when the intro would come on i remember like it was yesterday
How cool if HBO would bring this intro back for Generation Z can appreciate what 80's was able to showcase
You know you're old when you remember watching this between movies between 1982-1983 on your old wood console TV, with the woodgrain, push button cable box either laying on top or off to the side, and the Atari VCS hooked up and sitting on top as well. Most likely parked about 2 feet away from the screen, to your parents dismay. But that's as far as the cable box would stretch 😂
Today they can make that intro in day probably lol
I love that little city and the intro and all.
Song slaps
As I recall, HBO was still using this open well into the 90s...it was always mesmerizing as a kid. Thank goodness the folks ponied up for cable.
i remember being 7-8 yrs old in the late 80's and each time i saw this opening i wanted so badly to live in that town.
I remember watching this BTS in 1984, I thought that Intro would last forever, I was wrong, but 40 years later I still get The Warm Fuzzies.
I guess they decided to separate the O from the B in the logo while making this.
Any CGI programmer and producer should Kneel Before these guys. This was pure human creativity and art.

Oh, the nostalgia!!!!!!! I painfully miss the 80s sooooo much. This was and still is my most favorite TV programming intro
Don’t forget, there was even a stereo mix that sounds even better!!
1983 > 1998 but both are amazing work.
This lasted 20 years. 20! Then returned for one night in 2019.
Mannn!!! This brings tears of nostalgia to my eyes hearing this! What a time to be alive!!
Brings back memories
There is absolutely nothing better than this.
CGI does it all now. I prefer the old ways.
4:00 Nice drone footage!
The audio is so bad
The full theme starts at 8:57
Now this is a Title Sequence
I remember watching this behind the scenes video when I was a child. The amount of effort and care they put into making this intro is a testament of the work ethic and concern with quality of that time period.
Wow this is nostalgic to me. Between the music and the effects, it’s still so extremely powerful. Really reminds me of being a kid again
They did a life’s work that changed movie nights forever, for what can be done with a drone now. Amazing.
