However, the veterinary industry hasn't kept pace, with prices rising faster than inflation. While 60% of pet owners can afford market-sector veterinary care, 40%-equivalent to one in five Americans-cannot. This leaves 60 million pets without the medical attention they need.
Emancipet, a nonprofit organization, is on a mission to change this by making high-quality veterinary care affordable and accessible for everyone, particularly in low-income and socially vulnerable neighborhoods. With a community-owned model, Emancipet delivers low-cost preventive care, dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and heartworm treatment. Clients cover 70-80% of the costs, while donors contribute the remaining 20-30%, making it possible for every pet to receive care, regardless of their owner's financial situation.
