Join me as I explore the various ways of hydroponic gardening. We shall explore hydroponics and planting indoors - in your own home - perfect for condo living or homes with limited space. Imagine, growing your own vegetables in a soil-less environment. So is hydroponics the future of farming? Lets find out!
Growing Red Cabbage
I’ve always wanted to try growing cabbage. But it is a cool weather vegetable and I live in a tropical country - so my area is not exactly what you call ‘cool weather’.
I was curious to know what would happen if I tried growing my red cabbage microgreens into mature plants.
So Welcome to Journey to Hydroponics. In this vegetable series, I’ve chosen to grow the Red Acre Cabbage from seeds.

Finally a video with the same environment as me. I want to grow vegetables and marigold but I live in an apartment and only have an afternoon sun. Subscribing nowww ✨
thanks for subscribing and hope you enjoy growing hydroponic veggies and flowers!
I’m not growing hydroponic I’m growing in soil. Can I still fertilize my plants through watering or should I use fertilizer powder in the soil? Everywhere I see this I see it’s used for hydroponics growing
hi. yes, you can fertilize through watering. I use masterblend as my hydroponic nutrient solution and you can also use masterblend for soil based plants.
Your videos are always so engaging and well-made! I love seeing how much effort you put into each one. Keep up the great work!
thanks for your encouraging comment!
Wow! This is great! Thank you for this video. More please....
thank you for watching!
Very clear and inspiring to know even the benefits of growing red cabbage!
thank you for watching and for your positive comments!
do you add full strength or half strength solution when the third leaf appears?
Hi. I use full strength when third leaf appears.
@@journeytohydroponics6964 Thank you! You've helped me grow hydroponic plants with all of the super detailed/helpful videos that you share.
@@peppatinsley4264, wow thanks!
Hi po! Where do you buy your seeds po?
oh, many places offer seeds. I buy at times in supermarket (like the marigold), or even hardware stores. then there is always online. just make sure there's an expiration date so you know if seeds are good.
Love this presentation on Marigold! I felt like I could follow the steps, simple and detailed!
love the color hehe.
I love to have it as well ☺☺☺
So after fruiting can we dispose the plant all at once, since it's not fruiting anymore?
hi. In my area, harvesting a second batch of Tiny Tim is few; so planting a new batch is better for me.
@@journeytohydroponics6964 ow thank u ❤️
I love your videos! Great step by step information. I especially like the way you reuse everyday containers. I would like to see how to reuse coco coir if it's possible. ❤
Why calibrate 3 times ?
the ph buffers: pH=4 for acidic, 7 for neutral and 9.2 for basic are standard solutions/measurement for the meter to calibrate or use as targets.
Thank you for details from germination to harvest! These are great guidelines to follow for us beginners
Thanks for sharing your video with us 👍. Hope all grows well. Love your methods. I will be trying this as well. A new subscriber 👍 will be following your channel. Thanks 👍
thanks for wathcing and wishing you good results with hydroponics.
@@journeytohydroponics6964 Thank you as well ☺️.
Curiou to know how they taste 😊
like crispy cucumbers 🥒 😋
Hi Aunty, I just have to point out that those are thai chili peppers. Take a look at en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siling_labuyo This page has reliable info
probably :) I just got the seed from packaged chilis labeled as siling labuyo. it could be also the other native type called siling haba.
I agree, Siling Labuyo is small and has a very distinctive smell and taste, I make my own chilli sauce and my Filipino friends say I have managed to bottle the Philippines. I brought 4 kilo of red chillies back from my last visit. The plants don't grow well in UK. It is too cold and not enough daylight for half of the year.
Very nice. I remember how you described your mom’s garden. You are one natural gardener also.
Next time main bhi grow karoonga, l like your video🙏🙏
Beautiful!!! Next time find some orange flowers to grow hehe
The flowers are beautiful. I can't imagine this plant to grow using a new easy method. Hope to watch a lot more in your next videos.
Thank you po. Would like to ask if is it okey to use t8 led tubular but the shorter version? It says 65k daylight buy the lumen is 1200 only and 9 watts only.. thabk you
you may need to place 4 of the lights in a row. it also depends on what you're growing. but those lights are good for most microgreens, good also for others like lettuce, pechay, basil, bokchoi, kale, cilantro, or any green leafy vegetables in general. have fun!
Nice results🙏🙏
Mam ask lng po Hanggang po ba sa magbunga ganun parin po dami ng grams ng nutrients solution?
hi. yes until flower and harvest. you can alternate nutrient solution with 5.28gram for masterblend tomato, 5.28gram for calcium nitrate, and 2.64gram for epsom on 10 liter of water
Nice🎉research and results🙏🙏
Nice👏👍🎉😊😊
Again and again thanks🎉🙏🏼💐
T8ligh t how meny Watts,, How meny hour led light on Seedlings stage
base your t8 on the lumen rating which should be over 2k and Kelvin over 5k. usually most 16-18 watts daylight give this depending on manufacturer. leave lights on from 6am to 8pm
@@journeytohydroponics6964 thanks mam, for quick reply 🙏🏼💐which country you belong???
This was the most educational video I've ever watched.
Beautiful plants
So meticulously done.
Does the Okra plant really keep on producing Okras whole year round? How many years does it stop producing? (warm tropical weather)
hi. I've had ocra harvest in batches of around 4 to 5 times and after that, my variety was not as productive as before. And I usually start with a new veggie plant to see what else I can grow hydroponically except for basil which is my favorite (so its always planted.) Okras are supposed to be indeterminate plants though so they should last a year.
@@journeytohydroponics6964 Other than Okra plant, is there any other plants that can produce whole year round? example; zucchini.
yes try Russian kale :)
Hydro all day every day with celery I can only do them in Rockwool in a non lit area but warm
Create your own test liquids using A Calibrated Meter & PH down and store the liquid in bottles in a dark cool area. Then you do not need to ever purchase any of these crystal packs.

Great outcome. However, I wouldn't recommend putting any kind of flat plastic and weights onto the seeds like you did in the beginning. Doing that prevented you from actually watching your seeds to see when they sprouted. Then when you finally did check on them they were very leggy. I'm surprised they weren't damaged by the weight. The moment they sprout, you want to put the grow lights right on them so they won't end up so leggy like they did. You could've just put a plastic bag over them, some plastic saran wrap, or the original lid of the container. But like I said, great outcome.
Thanks for the wonderful video and information
Thanks for sharing this video🎥📹📼🎉
Tried hydroponics, can't see the advantages, understand if there is limited space ?! Impossible to keep out algae & constantly check/refill water, pump, nutrients ?!
I think the main advantage is that with hydro-kratky (no pumps needed) and LED lights - I can grow veggies under a clean environment with cocopeat, especially for indoor gardening. I don't use soil and all the bugs that come along with it. I have no problems with algae as long as the containers are covered, and refilling allows me to visit the plants which I enjoy doing. Using nutrient solution saves me the worry I had before, unlike with soil, I always had to think about compost and fertilizer :)
simply amazing. please make video on growing broccoli indoors under grow light?
will try!
Love the Indoor Bee!
I admire your focus, patience and determination, constantly experimenting and venturing on hydrophonic ideas. ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks🙏🙇 for✅🙏
I want to try this .. any suggestion ?
hi! if you're new to hydroponics, may i suggest you try microgreens first czcams.com/video/rkKUL16iJrw/video.html (there are links in this video for more) just to feel the cocopeat without the need of nutrient solution. then eventually, learn about how to mix nutrient solution and how to use a ph reader to move on to growing veggies including cucumbers using the kratky method (which i use). kratky is the simplest hydroponic method because you can recycle food containers and you do not need pumps like other hydro methods.
