Registrace 16. 04. 2012
Photographer and Photoshop junkie, from the frozen Canadian prairies. Mostly hiding in studios to stay warm in winter or avoid being devoured by moose sized mosquitoes in summer. Occasionally she does find herself outdoors, but it is usually brief or in the quest of making new compositing backdrop material.
This adventure started way back in 1997, and has taken her from rural life to around the world.
But be nice, shes still learning how to suck less at this whole CZcams thing... :)

Huge Sabbath Photoshoot - Most of it is too spicy.
Hi and welcome back to another video! This is the result of 4 years of experimentation and lots of failure, but I finally got it! My biggest composite to date! I lost track of all the layers, but for adding and blending the people in was 51 layers on it's own!
Excuse the basic video, I filmed all the self video on my phone because it actually does 4k and my 5D mk3 only does 1080 ^--^ Doing my best here with limited gear!
Huge, huge amounts of love to the models who helped make this project happen. I could not have done this without your trust and time. Thank you, from the bottom of my dark little soul.

I love the soft emotive style!
😂❤ thats awesome
😂😂 thanks!
Beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Thank you! Thank you so much! This has brought me inspiration to start photography again. I have always loved it especially as a child. I asked for a camera for Christmas a real one but because we was poor I got a disposable one. I’m old guys😂 that disposable camera at 7 years old changed my life lol I took pictures of my animals, friends at school, family and I set all my stuffed animals up with tea cups and took their photos as well. When in high school I saved enough money to get my own camera. It was a $60 camera in 2001. I loved it so much. I forgot about that part of me. Your video has brought that back in me.
Omg that’s amazing! I’m so flattered… I love that you have such fond memories hidden away 💖💖
This photos are magical! Amazing work!
Aw thank you so much!!💖💖
Love these!!! Beautiful lighting on your dancer!!!
Thank you so much !
Genuine question why a hood and 300mm lens in a studio? You said one light but there is plenty from the studio
Hood so I don’t get lens flare, plus it saves my glass from getting bumped or scratched because I’m often not paying attention where the lens tip is going. And it’s one strobe light. The photographs aren’t impacted by the continuous light. If they were, the cover image would have been impossible. And it’s a sigma 70-200, and I use it because I like the compression and my studio is big enough to use it :)
Great video. What Kelvin do you shoot in?
Thank you! Kelvin for the video or for the photography ?
@@ReneeRobyn my pleasure 😊. Kalvin for the photography.
It was about 3200 I believe :)
I've randomly been booked to do a shoot of a ballerina this weekend, and as someone who knows 0 about ballet, this is thr most helpful video I've watched on shooting a ballerina. So thank you! It had the right amount of talking and photos! It's really helpful to know why you shot in the way you did, and it's given me some ideas lol. I preferred the softer photos, as they look less posed 😁
Oh perfect! I hope you like the next dance video I’m working on :)
Beautiful images, I am a portrait photographer but I am looking at moving into dance photography, great video.
Thank you! It’s a fun transition :) you’ll enjoy it!
Thanks, I can't wait .
It’ll be great :)
I LOVE this shoot! I would love to shoot like this every day. Great model, great lighting, great commentary. And I totally recognized the sound of that shutter! The 5D Mark III is one of my main cameras. Thanks for posting this!
Hahaha love my 5D3 💖 glad you’re on the same gear!
Helpful video. Is the umbrella you used silver or white? Thank you
It’s silver with a white diffusion sock on it :)
@@ReneeRobyn Thank you
No worries!
The algorithm knows me. Beautiful work!
Aw yay!! And thank you! 💖
It was amazing 🥰
Thank you! 💖💖
Those photos look amazing!! Are you using HSS for the flashes to freeze motion? last time i did a dance photoshoot.. i was using really beginner studio flashes with no HSS.. and some of the pictures had blurry tips on hands/feets
Oh yeah HSS is very helpful to freeze motion 💖
Cool ❤💫
Thank you! 💖💖
Definitely love them both. Different feels and evokes different emotions. Very inspirational video thank you 😊
Thank you so much for watching! 💖💖
THANK YOU for that wonderful journey! The video was composed perfectly and matched the story. I also enjoyed the brief equipment info and reasons why you did what you did.
I appreciate this so much, thank you! 💖
I have been wanting to do this style for a while now. None of my models know how to pose for it, and we also don't have the outfits. Sucks!
You need dancers, not models :) and clothing is easier to make than you think, if you have any friends who can sew 💖
@@ReneeRobyn I actually did it last week. Yay!
Oh yay!! Amazing!!
Didn't see enough photos...too much talking
Ah well, this might not be the channel for you then :)
I love them both too! Love ballet photography!!!
Thank you! Me too 💖
You are awesome, and imma need that korn shirt! I have dance studio pictures scheduled for next month and I am researching my lighting setup. Thank you for all of your help! You do amazingly beautiful work.
Aw thank you! I’m so thrilled you found this helpful :) I’m excited for your dance shoots!
Ha! I've shot that dancer before! I was like, there is no way this is from Calgary! P.s. I love the contrast of the Korn shirt.
Hahaha it’s from edmonton! And thanks 🤘🏻 love me some Korn 😂
You're a great teacher! Thank you :)
Thank you for watching! 💖💖
I was looking into the long exposure specifically to shoot in this exact place as I grew up two min from the entrance to this river! Brilliant minds think alike I guess. Amazing work!!
Hahaha that’s amazing!! Have the best time, I love Flatrock 💖
For the 2nd set up, can you use a burst mode with a strobe?
If your strobes can handle burst mode, totally! Mine don’t have a fast enough recycle time with the power I was using.
@@ReneeRobyn Thanks a lot for your reply.
Of course! Thanks for asking good questions :)
How did you set up 2 shots one after another? is the light output the same for both? What are the strobes? Love your videos and was wondering whether you have an tutorials on shooting the ballet dancers.
Hey! The power changed for the two different set ups. It’s been a few months since I did this video so I’m not sure what they were set to anymore. The strobes are Elinchrom. I don’t have a tutorial right now, but I do have more videos coming out that involve dancers :)
Okay, this is great!!! Wish I lived closer to be part of this!!
Wish you did too!!
lol when my model gives me "the look" I tell her afterwards that she gave me the look so I don't lose it while shooting.
Smart!!
Again these are fabulous! In several of the workshops I’ve attended the instructors will put some kind of limit, gear, time, location, to push creativity. I see this works for you.
Yeah it’s a hell of a way to see how well you know your lighting 😅 or to try and figure out an interesting way to light lots of different subjects
Great work Renee, and lots of fun to hear how you made it. Congrats!
Thank you so much!!
beautiful Images
Thank you so much!
Another awesome YT photographer. I shall subscribe.
Aw shucks. Thank you! 💖💖
If you were shooting on a white backround how did you get the final photo to have the color?
Because the background is in shadow I just added cool tones to the shadows and yellow to the highlights :)
Wow! Great lesson! I’m going to watch it again , take good notes, and then do some serious practicing. Can’t wait to see more of your videos.
Thank you so much for watching! I have more videos coming 💖💖
She was on point to adjust your light…. That’s hilarious. 😊
💖💖
Can you make a video showing how you edited this pictures that will be great I really want to see how you obtained that beautiful background colored Thanks
I just added blue into the shadows :) and yellows into the highlights!
Really cool setup! I like using gels for my fill lights to add colours to the shadows. Thanks for sharing. :)
Thank you for watching!
That's really great work Renee! Inspiring and fun to watch you work together. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you for watching!!
Beautiful work! Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching !
Oooh, that hair flick is excellent! I will definitely be trying that. Thank you for this great video!
She does great hair flip!
Great work!!! 💕🏆❤🏆💕🏆❤🏆💕🏆❤🏆💕
Thank you! 💖💖
Is it out yet??
Yes it’s out! My latest video :)
Superb video! I learned so much!
Awesome!! So happy to hear it :)
have some questions. for the first set up, how to avoid the overhead light create heavy shadow on the background paper and floor? Do I just move the model away from the background? or just make the overhead light weaker than the side lights? and is the overhead light directly on top of the model or is it closer to the camera than the model?(since I found directly on top will create weird shadow on the face) Thanks! It is so confusing when it comes to actual shooting.
So in this case the model is quite far from the background, like 10 feet or so. Which removes the shadow that you would normally get. The overhead light is directly over her and I just have her raising her chin a little to get nicer light on her. :) I also have light bouncing off a white board to help fill in shadows and make it more soft.
@@ReneeRobyn that's soooo helpful! Thank you so much!
You’re so welcome! 💖
Yessss 😂❤
😂😂
have a silly question. is the background totaly white or green?
Totally white! With the lighting it is grey because it is in shadow. I color graded the image to have cool green shadows and warm yellow-ish highlights :)
@@ReneeRobyn super dreamy color! love it so much!!!!!
Thank you so much!! I’m debating releasing a little color preset pack for these types of grades. I use them a lot!
