    You can also accomplish this with the just the 2-cycle timer and the limit switch. No extra relay.

    • @ERGMIAMI
      @ERGMIAMI Před 3 měsíci

      The relay is required to stop the motor. Otherwise, the inertia will push past the limit switch and keep going.

      @@ERGMIAMI So you are using it to power brake the motor? I had thought of that when typing the first comment. However I could not get a clear view of the wiring to the relay, so I could not trace what you are doing with it (how you are using it). Would you give a quick overview? I also forgot to mention that using just the timer and the switch it is still possible brake the motor and very easy to do so. Using a schottky diode, across the motor leads, will very effectively brake the motor. That is assuming that the polarity is never going to be reversed, since the switch is not laid out for that and it doesn't look like it would be needed. Of course, I do not know what the end function/product is and its parameters. In any case when the EMF collapse, the back EMF occurs and the polarity reverses. The diode will let power flow in the reverse direction and it brakes the motor. BTW I you would use octal relays and their sockets, a least in the testing phases, you will save a lot of time and effort in the wiring. Same thing with the timer. I notice that you have, what looks to be a counter on the table, so I know you know the value of using counters and timers that are of that style and use a socket. If the end product needs to be panel mounted, those timers, counters and some relays can easily be panel mounted just like the counter on your bench. I also recommend that if you do more of these great videos that you make a "testing panel" with a DIN rails and an angled mounted surface.

      @@ERGMIAMI OK well what I am trying to do is study the circuit. However when it comes to the counter (diagram is unclear) what goes to what. I can speculate but without knowing the exact model (link is to the series not one that you used) it is hard to do that. Since each model in the series can be different in how the operate and pinouts are different. So it is difficult to ascertain why you have a diode and resistor. It seems that they don't have a purpose. Being that there is positive voltage coming through the relay and on most counters the Count terminal is High and it is trigger by going to LOW. AKA the negative. What is the thought process? Is the blue line at connection 10 an acualt wire also?

    • @ERGMIAMI
      @ERGMIAMI Před rokem

      @@AztecWarrior69 The input to the counter is connected to the leg of the limit switch that goes high when the carriage is at that limit switch. That increments the counter's PNP (Sourcing) input. The output of the counter that closes (Normally Open output) when the counter is powered, supplies power to the motor circuit. That is, the output COM terminal is connected to the +V power supply and the NO terminal is connected to the motor speed control Power Input. That output changes state to off when the preset count is reached, shutting off power to the motor circuit and stopping the carriage. The system restarts when the counter is RESET with a momentary switch bridging the reset terminal with +V (or 0V depending on the counter)

Guess youtube doesn't like external links. Will leave a link to it in my latest video here. Will link in next comment just in case. (If you don't mind taking a look and confirming) Negative from battery to P1 5 NC P1 6 COM TO P2 8 COM Makes connection to P2 7 NO TO Counter 9 and relay coil negative. If I am not mistaken that means the connection on CTR 9 is brought LOW not HIGH. Otherwise the relay won't energize. I still am not getting what the diode and resistor are for. On All my counters the input (COUNT) is HIGh and it needs to be brought LOW to trigger the increment/decrement. Are they to protect from EMF. "The output of the counter that closes (Normally Open output) when the counter is powered, supplies power to the motor circuit. That is, the output COM terminal is connected to the +V power supply and the NO terminal is connected to the motor speed control Power Input." What you are saying that when the counter reaches the set count. the counter OUTPUT (OUT) goes to NO making a connection to Negative and keeping it (sos relay stays energized), when P1 is NO. AKA bypassing P1. Yes I got that. It was hard to tell in your whiteboard diagram. But I figured as much.

      @ERGMIAMI Před 2 lety

      Indeed, that's the beauty of circuit engineering, in that there may be a simpler that you haven't thought of yet. Sometimes when discussing projects with other engineers I'm lead down directions that hadn't occurred to me.

    • @AztecWarrior69
      @AztecWarrior69 Před 2 lety

      @@ERGMIAMI The Triple Pole Double Throw relay can get this done with minimal wiring and easier connection of the speed control. Adding a diode to a DPDT relay works great for simple forward/reverse but have to add a capacitor to relay and counting control. Best to use Four Pole Double Throw relay to separate the latching and counting circuits. So you have better control or flexibility depending if your counter needs a PNP or an NPN signal. I would share all the diagrams I have already made and screenshots of the simulations that I have in Google drive but CZcams doesn't let me post links in the comments. I'm going to use this in my chicken coop door with safety feature that goes back up if there is an obstruction, then back down but will only do it a preset number of times before it stops and holds at the obstruction.
