I'm working on this song right now and the chorus kills me. I can get to my head voice in exercises and other songs (easy on me) but for some reason with this song I can't transfer that over on the chorus and I strain and pull up my chest voice instead. I'm starting to wonder if it has to do with phrasing techniques. I know there are ways of singing a word or phrase to make it easier to hit a note. Easy on me is a good example. Instead of singing "Easy on me" Adele sings "heasy hon me".

What about the second voice ?

To start with the chorus that "Johnny" is singing is not the chorus as Al Jarreau sang it. He does not say, "Tell me where I gotta go to be with you tonight." Instead Jarreau sings, "Tell me where I gotta go to be with you ooh ooh." The word 'tonight' is not heard in the original. Furthermore, I have the CD on which this song appeared and the lyrics are enclosed. The word 'tonight' is not in the lyrics.
