The Boss 93 KHJ format got pretty annoying after a while. The station's over enthusiastic DJs spewed relentless verbiage, even babbling into the start and finish of the songs they played. If you wanted to hear how “Good Vibrations" sounded without The Real Don Steele jabbering over it, you had to go elsewhere. Wink Martindale was like the most typical of the Boss Jocks, all patronizing “Far out, kids!” Top 40 hype and motor-mouth hucksterism, and was savaged by Cheech and Chong as Wink Dinkerson, a lame-ass puker of a DJ, introduced at a rock concert as “Dink Winkerson”... “Hi there all you groovy guys and groovy gals! Peace-love-dope!” And meanwhile the audience is jeering and making barfing noises. Yeah, KHJ had the teen-age audience in the palm of its collective hand back in the late ‘60s, but if you were really cool you listened to KRLA instead.

WOW! this "comment" by marc whoever meister is way off base. Guessing that she wasn't actually around at the time and just wanted to make some obtuse ticky tock comment as millenials and genzees are famous. Boss Radio had it's time and then it was gone. Actually, it was pretty fun to hear. Sensationalized? You bet.Ticky tock is "real"? Be serious! KHJs Boss Radio format came into existence because KRLA & KFWB were just NOT cutting it for the younger folk. I mean, how many younger listeners from back then continued to listen to Art Laboe until he had to resort to playing dedications to the prison population from Estella in Boyle Heights? And KFWB left as competition back in the late '60s to give us "22 minutes of news" every half hour. C'MON! KHJ wiped the radio waves clean starting on May 3, '65 until FM started to get it's act together enough to be listenable. And, NO, the FM airwaves weren't without static! AM was just a superior product until well into the '80s, when some CA clown in Washington DC decided that broadcasting needed to be de-regulated! What a crock of BS! RR will burn in Hades for that one, among numerous other high crimes against humanity (as well as logic & good taste). As things turned out, definitely not a Phi Beta Kappa move in order to stimulate business or the progression of the broadcasting industry. Hey, marc, sweetie....yer attention span is calling....and hung up! Here I thought that I'd check out some new information on the greatest radio station ever and it turned out to be nothing but girlish innuendo between two wannabe comedians who couldn't carry stacks of wax for Robert W. Morgan, Charlie Tuna, Humble Harve Miller or the Real Don Steele, much less the countless others who aspired to replicate the greatness of the Boss Jocks of KHJ! Sadly, this earful of "historical recollection" is seriously flawed and worthless at best. To those who actually heard what noise emanated from the airwaves on 930 AM back in the day, it was a way to connect with our peers and continue our daily evolution in a way that was fun, enjoyable and lasting....unlike ticky tok, which will be banned sooner as later. Strike three, millenials and genzees....yer out!....unemployed & homeless by choice and still refusing to grasp onto any clue of hope.

@marcschirmeister9821 Funny thing is KRLA went broke chasing KHJ. So all your half baked theories and bad imitation of Top 40 is all misguided.

My mother and father grew up in Palo Verde, Bishop Rd. They were married in Palo Verde. I am the youngest of 4 boys. My older brothers were some of the last children to live and play in Palo Verde........... BEFORE THE TAKE OVER... The many many sad events that took place.... to this day are very emotional for us, the 2nd generation of Palo Verde. The 2 guys doing the interview, with their continual laughter and stupid Culver City jokes have very much insulted me and all other Palo Verde individuals who have roots there. Eric was very professional at disregarding/ignoring many of those goons remarks. Your behavior allows the ugly events of the TAKE OVER to live on. Get professional. I would never make jokes about your grandparents roots and life style. Thank you Eric for your efforts in bringing out the truth of these ugly events.

My then best friend and I used to go to our local "The Racquetball Club" back in the early 80s to play a few games of racquetball and work out, sit in the sauna, steam room and hottub. Then after we showered and got dressed we'd go upstairs and sit in the lounge and drink an Orange Whip. They were delicious and addictive. We didn't have Orange Bang in our area, at least at that time. This was Middletown, Ohio and I don't believe that The Racquetball Club is there anymore or at least I think it's a different business now but I never forgot about that whipped orange drink.
