Toyota’s 4L motor was their choice. If they were concerned about power, they’d keep the v8 or even supercharge the 4L. So, current 4 cyl 4runner is a reason I will not buy it. I drove 4cyl at one and 4cyl 4runner, motor sounds like my lawnmower tractor. Now, Toyota can crash and burn with every turbo engine that Toyota has. Toyota has issues with their 3.5 L turbo and they are now going to happen with their 4cyl. = most of Toyota vehicles now are garbage… buy pre turbo versions and let the new junk rust on their lot.
