Carmy is the epitome of what it means to be self-sabotaging and self-destructive. He feels as if he cannot outweigh his inner turmoil, and he deprives himself of joy. He only sees his mistakes and fails to recognize his achievements. I deeply relate to and can see myself in his character because not only do I recognize those traits within myself, but once you dig a hole so deep, you can’t get out of it.
