While we were there, we tried out Scuba diving for the first time with goodiving.com who are a lovely team of marine biologists and instructors. We also had the opportunity to ask them some questions about their work and the wildlife on the island.

How do you live off grid in Denmark when everything is always owned by someone and building a off grid house has to be accepted by the government ? And if it has to be accepted the off grid idea of it goes away
I am pretty sure I came across this plays many years ago while out hiking and looking for mushrooms. The buildings were abandoned and completely overgrown and slowly being consumed by weather and exposure. I thought “what potential going to waste”. It was always in the back of my mind what happened to it. At the time I think one could have acquired the premises fairly cheaply. Glad to see someone picked up on it and did something with it …

Where does someone start looking for an abandoned village for sale? Sounds like a great idea. Would you be able to share how much this place cost please? Just curious...
Use your search engine! I put in "abandoned villages for sale" and got hundreds of hits. I assume prices will vary considerably as well. Then consider why the village was abandoned, boundary disputes, inheritance disputes, terrible access, no water supply, no chance of mains electricity, no chance of telephones/internet...the off grid dream is great,until the novelty wears of and you experience your first winter.

We wanted to join but they wanted a selection process like an elimination game show. We were asked to come for a month along with several other families, then at the end they would pick one and tell the others, go home, too bad, you wasted your time. Of course they have to choose people, but not by making them compete like capitalists.
Always a problem, how to choose people to come and live with you. Maybe you could suggest a better way?
Yeah we are working on how to be able to take in new members, maybe next year will be different, we are discussing it right now, but I must say it was good to have a dedicated time to meet people and I can tell you that noone was told to go home - it was as much a chance for people to meet us and try out communal living here for a while and have the chance to then say it wasn't for them anyway, and all the families that gave their final yes, got ours too and are now moving in with us (we didn't say we would choose only one). I am sorry you felt it like a game show, we did our best for it not to be, but of course there's a sense to it, as we do hold our right to say no to people if it doesn't feel right and for some, taking in too many new members in, in one go, is too much (I'm personally not of that feeling, but totally respect other's feelings in that way), that's why we don't just have 100% open doors and try to choose the people that fit in the holes we feel we might have in the community. But other suggestions for how to bring in new people are very very welcome, as we are still looking for the best way <3
