2008-2015 Lexus RX350 Alternator Replacement
It finally happened! The Lexus almost left me stranded!
Pulling into the neighborhood the battery light flashed on the dash and I lost power steering!
I did the quick fix and had put a new battery in the car right before I went out of town. I get back and completely forgot I had an issue prior to my work trip!
I tested the alternator output right at the alternator and it was intermittently putting out 8 volts. Alternator left the chat.
I know my how to's are a bit long winded and lengthy. If you don't like me goofing off and having a bit of banter with you guys, just fast forward past the funny bits!

Just wanted to thank you for the video. Changed my LH mount in about 2hrs and lots of water in the Texas heat! Only thing I did different was to remove the steering shaft first and didn’t have to remove the support beam. Just carefully jacked the engine behind it. Otherwise, went step by step with your video.

MY FORD DEALER SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL FOR ABS MODULE , WERE DID YOU GET YOUR INFORMATION ,
Tell your dealership to fix it or drive that cooker into thier desk

Total noob question, but does this apply to all VW cars? I have a Fox from 2005 which gives me the 2279 error code now. When I accelerate I can clearly hear a whistle from the engine room.
And basically it idles a bit rough but not nearly as much as the one in the video. But the EPC light turns on mid drive and it goes limp and it usually seems like it's when I'm going at a steady pace and not accelerating.
It should be the same premise but the part may look a bit different.

Did you have to remove the manifold heatshield?
The subject vehicle didn't have manifold heat shielding if I remember correctly.
What amperage Alternator? 100 or 130?
I think the one in my vehicle was a 130 amp
What are the classic symptoms the Fusion exhibit that confirms it's the ABS module?
The brakes completely fail or go onto "ice mode". Essentially you hit the brakes but nothing really happens.
Didn't Tex build that one?
Is it the same mount part number for both sides?
They are different part numbers

Which alternator brands are good in general & especially for Lexus? I have a 2010 Lexus RX350
Denso is your best bet - it is the factory supplier.

I got the Atomic Fabrication and Performance GMT 900 motor mount, will be way easier to put in and lifetime warranty
The easiest way is lifting the engine little bit from the bottom
Take off the stupid heat shield. Makes it easy

Taking off the heat shield is insanity. Broken parts need just as much love and attention.
Hey brother, awesome video and i appreciate you taking the time to make it, next time youre up at the tool store get you a pair of the hose clamp relase pliers, theyre like 25.00 and they make the hose clamp you were fighting an absolute breeze, they lock into the tops and never slip off!
got my third alternator at 225k miles on my 2007 rx350 , the second one lasted 80k and original one lasted 145k . thoughts ?
What brand was the second alternator? New or reman? I would only trust a new or reman Denso brand, the original equipment supplier for Toyota. I used to trust Bosch, but I recently installed a defective Bosch reman starter in a Honda Accord. My 2008 RX350 appears to be on the verge of needing its first alternator replacement at 135k.
Wow 15mm is a huuuuge bolt, or are you talking about head size?
Socket size is 15mm
Hey, is this your personal car? If so, did you replaced the engine coolant pipe? It’s a rubber hose that is notorious for breaking. They did a recall to replace it to metal. It’ll gush out oil when the rubber breaks!
The top bolts were the worst but this wasn't the most difficult job to do.

I thought you were referring the High-Low Beam switch. My STS would turn the High Beams on on a Right Turn, and wouldn't dim by itself. I long for the Stomp on Floor Switches of old Cars
That is a Unibody design, a slight bump on one spot can twist the car in ways unimaginable, and pretty much a write off in a 5mph parking lot bump. My STS got a 5mph bump, Write off. It was as Robust as those Sugar Glass Windows used in Hollywood. Not very sturdy
They Look nice on the Outside, but like the Ex Old Lady, no so nice inside
I have a 2011 fusion and i have no fliud coming from the lines. Replaces the master cylinder and still no fluid and pressure out the lines... would this be an ABS issue?

2010 new master cylinder. Electronically bled still no pedal pressure. Anyone find out the issue?
🎉abs pump sounds to be running., but not pumpy up pedal when electronically bleeding Usually you depress the brake pedal and the computer will build pressure and the pedal comes up off the floor...

Thank you for the instruction, and thanks for keeping it real! I loved your daughter photo bombing the beginning of the video and seeing your stool slip out from under your feet; both things I've actually experienced! The steering shaft made all the difference for me (2013 4x4 Avalanche). If I had done that in the beginning, I think I could have shaved off an hour or more from this job. Thanks again!

That will work for about a year best to replace ball joints struts and upper and lower control arm and bushings all at the same time

Yes it can as it is the same exact suspension!
I just changed my sway bar bushings and I still have bad noises. What should I replace now, all the front and real bushings or should I replace struts front and back?@@excelsiorautoservices
@@BrianJohnson-lh2ek check the control arm bushings and the sway bar end links next. Those are the top noise makers.

I'm not sure but aren't those bushings made of rubber? I believe something like Sil-Glyde would be better, or something silicone based, because they contain petroleum, which eats away rubber... And if you went that far, why not just replace the bushings? That one looks pretty squished. Thanks for the tips
This job was for a customer that was just trying to get by until pay day. We ended up redoing the job a few weeks later with the MOOG bushing and a few other components needed.
So I'm kinda confused on the bottom bolt. It doesn't have to be removed? It kinda seems like it does or why put it there?
Yes the bottom bolt comes out enough to get the alternator out!
How can you the difference between the ABS Module issue and a typical weak master cylinder?
I was able to test with a scan tool. I selected the ABS pump bleed "hot function" and this one continuously failed.

Just did both sides it was not fun at all and took me like 4 hours, I am also a professional mechanic w/ 30 grand in tools 😅
The driver's side is a real pain, especially if it is 4wd/awd!
any tips or tricks to replace the passenger side motor mount? I already paid a shop to replace the driver's side mount and the transmission mount, but the labor cost to replace the passenger side was just too expensive.
What's the name of the part
The "ignition switch". Search that for this year and make and it will show that little black piece I changed!

Good video, I woulda just replaced the bushings with new $15 pair of Duralast bushings from auto zone like I did. 50% noise gone and now it's time to do my tie rods and end links to eliminate all clunk/noise
