Good summary - many Porsche and 2 Lotus later they really are much different - Lotus is a real sports car in every sense and handles much better than anything close to class. Porsche is known to be very comfortable for its size. I did notice if you’re in good shape, the Lotus is very comfortable - having a belly or not physically fit can make the Lotus a challenge. I was sick in 2010 and gained 25 lbs and the Lotus was almost painful to drive for those 4 months until I got back into shape.

Probably not but electric hasn't hit it hard yet, even though Elon Musk took the chassis right away. I got mine 14 years ago and when I think maybe I will sell, my ass is getting big. I just can't think of owning anything better for the kind of driver I am. It's fun to walk into a room and be able to legitimately say you own the perfect sports car, not much anyone can say, and if they do? lets hit the autocross meet next week. And now it's also outpacing my investment portfolio, 12 years down the road these are 120,000$ cars, if they are in good order. Anyone on the fence BUY NOW!!!!!!!

Miata with coilover is good enough for daily. You dont want one too expensive to maintain. Both are slow and streets mostly dont have a lot of turns anyways

It depends on what you use your Elise for. The stock Elise has a forgiving ride, reliabily, originality, excellent fuel consumption, and the ability to outdrive almost anything on a twisty public road. Fantastic freeway fuel economy. In stock form, you can easily scare the crap out of yourself in the upper rev range. It rewards driving skill very well as you learn to drive it fast, and is telegraphicly foregiving. No good in snow, hydroplanes easily...

I just want to let you know that I really, really appreciate the effort you put into the videos on your channel. I know you aren't posting anymore, but your vids on the Elise have really helped me be absolutely certain I want to invest in one instead of going with a(nother) Miata now that my kids are older. I used to have a mk ll Honda CRX and i really regret selling that. It has its similarities to a Lotus Elise like the go-kart feeling, high revving engine, handling etc. I drove a lotus Elise at a track experience and fell in love, wanted one ever since! My mort-gage (death-grip) finishes in 2 years, so maybe then ( if I'm still able to get in and out of it by then)😮

Things to know about Elise: 1. Getting in and out of a car and grabbing either windshield or steering wheel can damage the car. 2. Putting stuff in the boot can damage the car. What a marvel of engineering this car is.

Lol my first thought when you said nice weather in December was “he’s not from the south”. Up north or out west you put your summer car away for the winter or get winter tires. In the south you just give winter a few days to calm tf down then drop the top like nothing ever happened. Only difference between the south and California is humidity

Well, I would do my evaluation differently from yours. Getting in & getting out depends on your TORSO and LEGS. So there are ways to get into a low vehicle. To experience a go kart with engine behind you, you have to compromise with some things in life to enjoy it. Getting in & getting out is one of them. There are ways you can make it easier. Doing YOGA would go a long way to make it easier for you as you get older. You could easily bound off the floor like a snake when getting out of Elise. LOL To compare Elise to Miata is like comparing apple to orange. They both have a different purpose. Miata is a roaster with front engine, to enjoy weekends with the top down & commute to work. Elise is an entry level to racing & road with a mid engine design. For me, I like mid-engine sports cars because it's cool driving with engine roaring behind you in style & fixed on a winding road. There is nothing like it with common cars with front engine.

I have the factory exhaust with no cat, for the track of course. But I'd still like something a tad louder and lighter. I'm just worried about it sounding like a Honda. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Why does that engine sound so good?

The key here is daily driver. I had an 2004 S2000 and 2005 Lotus Elise at the same time for 5 years. The S2000, much like the Miata, is a fully flushed out fun car that delivers 85% of the fun of the Elise, but has the creature comfort items that making driving in the real world more livable...like a top that can close with a button...or AC that actually pumps out cold air...or a real stereo. I love the Elise...and still have it after 17 years, but it is not something you want to drive everyday...for those of you who say otherwise, post that video of you stuck in stop and go I95 traffic for 2 hours while you melt and keep looking at the temperature gauge waiting for your car to shut down to prevent overheating.

I have a Miata sports black NC and I'm either considering a BBR 225 mapping for the Miata or a lotus elise S2 SC

I’ve owned three lotus’ one Europa and two Elise. I’ve also owned four Miata’s two NA, one NB and currently an ND. Concerning trunk space I must say the lotus wins. I’ve put a complete set of golf clubs laid flat with the exception of the driver which goes in the front on the side of the passenger seat and a collapsible bag along with two weeks of clothes. I’ve done this twice in a trip from Southern California to Sandpoint idaho and Pembroke Virginia. I also made a trip to England and spent two weeks. You can stuff an amazing amount of stuff in all the space of the trunk clamshell. The ND miata on the other hand I can’t get anything bigger than a six iron in the trunk as the opening is too small. The only other thing I’ve noticed since I’m back in a Miata rather than a lotus is there is absolutely no comparison in the handling and feel of driving them. The lotus wins hands down. Having said that I’m back in a Miata for a few reasons. The heater and air con are worthless in the lotus with the top down and that air con even with the top up. A Miata has always been a car that words well top up or down, winter or summer. I had no problem getting in and out of the lotus but my wife did as we aged. I am currently sixty seven and would still own the lotus had it not been for retirement. Both cars are wonderful things and the Miata does everything well but the lotus is shear pleasure to drive. I’ve never experienced anything like it. If you think you might want one I’d encourage you to buy one. As a drivers car it cannot be beat. Lastly after having owned the lotus, the Miata really rolls and it feels at first that only the back is rolling. It’s a bit disconcerting until you get used to it. Whichever you buy you’ll enjoy it but treat yourself to a lotus at least once in life.
