Jesse Mendez pulled off this viral spladle in his quarterfinals match vs. Brock Hardy at this year's NCAA Wrestling Championships. He hit the spladle with ~1:00 leftin the third period and ended the match in that position for a decision win. Huge props to Brock Hardy battling back and taking 3rd at the NCAA's!
We also cover the spladle hit by Bo Nickal on Sammy Brooks in 2017 at Carver Hawkeye Arena in the Penn State Wrestling vs Iowa Wrestling Dual. Sammy Brooks hit a nice sweep single to Bo's left leg and Bo went over top to trap the leg and sat through into the spladle to pin Sammy Brooks ~40 seconds into the match.
The spladle is hands down the worst wrestling move to get hit with, especially nowadays with the virality of social media.

The 5 Takedown Ranges in Wrestling & BJJ
Thanks for the short informative video that is easy to replay and learn from.
Do you have or know of anyone who has more videos on this type of penetration step? I’d like to learn it. Learning to it different then bending the knee to the butt has been difficult
Thanks for sharing
Guy with Rudis shoes - shoes look to big around the ankles or is it just me?
where is this training-hall
My first time seeing your videos and I’m impressed with how many great tips and explanations you’ve packed in. I’m 7 minutes in and I need to go back and take notes!

New guy got me with that yesterday. Must’ve been a wrestler
😂 in judo they explain it better❤
The one he’s wearing on a thumb is for pain relief? What’s it called ? I also have a pain my wrist as I’m practicing mixed martial arts and taekwondo. Will a band like that help?
Hassan yazdani is top wrestler in world
The entry is the most important thing about a takedown
Just started wrestling … I know about the penetration step and all but just can’t finish the double leg no matter how much I drive.
Drive diagonally, so you're almost circling, and obviously pull with both hands behind the knees. You have to be powerful with it
@@filipkingo4930 tried it but still no, when an experienced wrestler shoots on me even with his hands back , I get pushed back as soon as his shoulder hits me but no matter how much force I try to put in my shot I am not able to take my opponent down
drive at a 45 degrees angle
@@jamieb7345 I think it’s more of a entry issue
looks like a kind of reverse arm triangle choke. applied from the back instead of the front.
It’s the Diddy lock
you look like a stretched out michael chandler
Keep on going my mate you are amazing 👍
You're videos are concise and excellent!
How are ur knees so strong? Any tips?
10 thousand reps?
Must be trippy never getting hit but always injured. Someone asks “who hurt you?” And you have to respond well actually I hurt myself hurting him 😂
Why is a D1 wrestler going against a blue belt?
lmao
How many flags do you need in one room!
All
Not enough flags
Solo drill ideas ?
My 43 yo knees thank you.
Do you drop to your knees? I'm younger but also have bum knees. I was wondering if I could do it without ever slamming them on the way in.
@@umbrellastation25 I used to, but no more, I pretty much stopped shooting. Been using hip tosses, arm drags, snap downs instead, but this looks like a more viable option if I do want to shoot or at least go for an outside single.
@@Dsports1980 did you notice your knees getting worse over time from slamming them and/or lounging them far over your toes? Do you think that's an endurance you could build up over time doing it habitually or it's just overall bad for them? I'd like to be able to shoot but I'm scared of wearing my cartillages even further.
Get your hip in more
I grew up on this and may be frowned upon now but . Ear to ear is queer , forehead on the ear
Never seen you before but something about your character just makes me root for you. Hope you get there champ
Double chicken wing
Gave up your job to pursue your dream. Good luck, hope you succeed.
I think he already succeeded
The high hips I feel like my knee slams the may too hard. Wrestling coaching 15 years and tore my right meniscus 11 years ago. I agree with u but I prefer the more bent leg to lower knee impact.
Awesome to see your journey brother. I want to see you at the top in UFC ❤
I choke a lot of opponents in this position. This is favorite choke. But i also didn't have knowledge how to escape from this position. I will try this.
Nonsens, if, if, if......
Keep it up! I myself am looking to start training in MMA early next year, along with my brother
work cardio a lot first best advice i got besides protect your brain
The way I was taught, there was a certain distance that you kept from your leg and your hip, and it was 90° or more usually, so I did this unintentionally by either stepping back or stepping forward
I was watching this as a wrestler. And then I realized he was talking about bjj😅 AnyWho, carry-on😂
You’re awesome man. Been helping my kid with his take downs and these little details helps so much.
Im a wrestler actually like this short tie ups im good at explosive snap downs
You look like Michael Chandler's twin brother. Keep training, you're going to champion
Congrats. Stay focused and consistent. You have a challenging path coming. 🙏🤝
I tried this when fighting on the street, now I have a new kneecap
Let’s go brother! Your time is coming 🔥
I'm not ever doing that move because if you're fighting someone especially on concrete which theory is usually a fight happening you would break your elbow or damage your forearm just for a takedown
Took me 122 reps to learn it..
I am curious where you are training.
Dude I've been looking for this video
Na bro imma have to retire on the spot
