Kove 450 Rally Coober ECU - Initial Impressions - James Higgs Great Western Trail
After three days of trail riding through Devon & Cornwall with the stock ECU, I swapped to the Coober ECU to see what difference it made. These are my initial impressions.

Kove 450 Rally - North Wales Trans Euro Trail

After the trip to Morocco I fitted a 51T rear sprocket and Gripper tyres and took the Kove out to test it on the North Wales Trans Euro Trail. Can it handle UK trails with an 'average' rider at the controls?

Hello, how was the comfort of the seat for long distance? Did you do any mods to it or just go for the stock seat?
Hey bud this is great, thanks so much. Can you tell me how many miles you have on the bike, and what percentage at what top highway speed you think you rode? I'm trying to differentiate application between ktm 500 (which ktm says the engine can blow up on if putting any highway miles at 75mph or higher for even 1/2 hour on), and a bike like the Kove which would have to be designed to do sustained higher rpms. In the US, on some highways, you need to be able to do at least 75mph to not be bullied around and be in charge of your ... life. thanks for your awesome vid.
Great looking tracks there. Maybe some day I can come and ride the full TET there ✌
51 tooth is awesome
Thanks for your impressions. The original Kove Euro 5 is even more difficult to ride in single trails. The faster the better the original Kove works. Pity we don't have fast trails in Bavaria. Happy days, Günter/Nürnberg
Thanks for your feedback. I follow you from France. I received the COOBER ECU but still not my future KOVE. Two months late for various reasons. I'll let you know what I think after I've run it in. Kind regards.(translated by Google)
I’m doing the same trip feb 2025 on a husky 500 and looking forward to it. Great videos thanks.
Thanks for sharing these great experiences. How did you mount a tablet on kove 450 rally? have you use a specific rack?
3d printed mount from Kove facebook group. Since changed for a motoboxer mount.
How did you mount your gps above the dash? Is that the stock tower or an aftermarket one from uncle wangs?
3d printed mount - but have since changed to motoboxer mount from France
Very nice video loved it 😄
im a moroccan and i never been near to rhose places awsome bike cant wait for it to come to our market nothing does
what bracket have you used & how have you mounted the tablet?
3d print tablet from the Kove facebook group, mounts behind the dash and clips to the 'tower'. Also look up motoboxer gps mount for Kove 450.
Looks like the Kove's up to the task in thé Welsh mountains. I was tempted but decided against it and went for a Honda CRF 300 L instead. Why? Because of the easy nature of the trails over here in Bavaria. Lots of limestone, lots of dust over 8 months of the year. The speed a Kove is capable of wouldn't go down well with hikers, dog walkers, mountain bikers. It's the first modern classic from China, that 450 Rally. And by the way, Wales is one of the best terrains for riding. Did TET Wales south and mid last September on my Beta Alp 200. Thumbs up! Günter/Nürnberg
Halooooo, anyone out there - what tablet are you using ?
Phonemaxx T1 Pro..
Amazing...do you happen to have a gpx file?
the kove works better if you loose the euro 5 airfilter
and ECU and exhaust .
@@istra70 well yeh but it still runs acceptably with those left alone ,they run terribly if you don't change the air filter.
@@andrewmcewan8081 and get rid of canister...
One question: If you must change oil every 2000km that is not nice for a trip of 8000 km in South America or Asia. What do you think?
One question: Kove says you must change oil every 2000 km. That is not very nice for a long trip, like 8000 km in South America or Asia, What do you think?
Cracking video, what was the BMW?
From Argentina excellent trip!
What navigation are you using ?
DMD2; Drive Mode Dashboard
loved both parts whats the system you using for the sat nav many thanks
The Kove 450 looks promising. Lightweight small and neat bike. At least if you compare with my T7
It is, but considering that is 450 and from China - it is on the dear side. comparing with Yamaha T 7 - the cost is nearly the same ....
Hi, cool videos! What navigation setup do you use for the Kove? The tablet, attachment and occasional GPS attachment seen in the videos. I have the same bike and thinking how to set it up for the navigation better (and should I purchase the tower). Have you ever used the built in pairing/navigation options in Koves own dashboard?
Great video - look forward to the next one 🤟 what tablet and map app are you using?
Phonemaxx T1 Pro & DMD2
I think I saw you guys in Morocco on April 6 a few hours South of Ceuta (North of Moroco) as I was returning from Mauritania on my Transalp. Riding solo for 11,000km
Great ride ! So what mod have you done since Morocco. Only suspension tuning ? Waiting for my non-Euro5 ECU soon
Minimal; 51T rear sprocket & some suspension adjustments - mainly softening it all up!
Nice video! Looking forward to the next one 👍
i should bloody well hope it can 🙂
Hi great video can I ask what your luggage set up was did you use a rack or is it a reckless system?
LOL, foot down is foot down, side-hold is half-drop, drop is drop and stalling/stopping is just neither a bonus point.
Congrats for long test ride! very usefu! some questions :-) : do you have mounted the oem Kove Tower or after market? I see the Montana and other devices...what sort of tablet is that? finally, how's the seat and vibrations after many km? thanks!
The tablet/montana mount are 3d printed (details in the Kove/GPX facebook groups). The tablet is a PhoneMaxx T1 Pro rugged tablet. Available direct from Phonemaxx. The seat is hard - i had some softer foam put in and added sheepskin. No vibrations.
Itsybitsy, great lane,
Great video - I rode that same desert piste in Nov 2023 on my T7. Brilliant experience and wanting more.
Fab video, thanks Justin
Dod you record with calculator ?
It was uploaded in 720p - no idea why CZcams has converted it to 480... Will be in the full video soon...
I wish my calculator had this quality of video recording
Doesn’t count didn’t drop it😂
Hello !!! Does the kove have the power kit with CPU filter and tinnium-free tube?
Nope (not yet!) this is 100% stock including the tyres...
Awesome scenery, and great roads/trails..
Hi mate, what an experience! Looks like a good trip. What is the mount you’re using for the garmin? Trying to find a one for my old Oregon 550 GPS
Just the AMPS mount with Ram Ball adaptor - unfortunately the 3d printed ram ball didn't survive the whole trip though!
Nice video and trip, do you have the track ,please
Great video.
A half way stop along the desert for a burger sounds good to me!
🤣🤣🤣
Congratulations. Which bags did you use for the trip
Mosko Reckless 40's
Morocco is at the top of my list for riding! I’ve ridden there twice so far with plans to return! Once on my KTM690 Rally and last spring on my 20 year old KTM450exc. Nearly 3000 miles each trip with zero issues! Great people!
You welcome
how reliable kove was on this trip? thanks :)
Super reliable... Made it back and still going strong!
thanks a lot. im thinking about to buy a Kove...@@JustinOwenVideo
Fantastic trip - would really appreciate your summary/thoughts on how the Kove did 🙂
I'll do a summary/review once I have two minutes...!
Amazing trip! I was thinking of a Kove for the same off-road travel purpose and even knowing it is not the objective of the bike having a good fuel economy, it would be great if you could share some numbers to understand how much it costs to travel with it!
I'm getting ~62mpg dual sporting (50/50 mix of highway/trails)
@@JustinOwenVideo is that UK or US mpg? :)
@@veljko866 didnt know both uk and us use retard units
Nice video! Which tires did you use ? did they last the whole trip?
Stock tyres & they're still on the bike, about 50% used/left...
