Q. Didn't this channel used to be about Baguazhang?
A. Yes. It DID. Emphasis on the past tense.
Q. Well why did it change?
A. Cowardice. It changed because I wont tolerate cowardice. I don't learn from cowards nor will I teach them.
Q. This sounds like you are angry..
A. Somewhat. Mostly disgusted. Still.. better they be cowards without my support than I lie for them. Or lie to myself that they meet Western standards. They don't.
Q. Did you quit bagua?
A. Depends. If someone who circle walks with sharp knives for hours at a stretch .. is that bagua? What if they hate Chinese kungfu cowardice so much they claim the name and blessing of a Christian War-Saint? If they remake all they know in light of his example?
Who is it that TRULY circles in veneration of Heaven?
His name is Michael. The five cuts are HIS. As is the prayer. Same with my Circle. I dont need to fight dragons. He already did. Google it.

Fan Zhang Private Lesson Part B
This second part of this clip will show how fan zhang is the entry-way to Baguazhang's version of clinch fighting. I was originally taught the solo version of bagua fan zhang by my first gongfu instructor Sifu Glenn Wright. Sifu Glenn is the senior student of Master Park Bok-Nam in North America. While the stuff in the first clip are things you might see in some bagua schools very few will explicitly show the clinch stuff in the second clip (assuming they realize it's there!), probably because it's not really needed until you have to train or spar with grapplers (which is where I figured it out!). Keep in mind.. this is not a "how I defeat a grappler with my mighty gongfu" clip. This is a "how is the baguazhang art applied in a context of clinch-fighting". All it does is show clinching as an extension of fan zhang and the basic upper body postures found in "Dragon Extends it's Claws" or the basic circle walking posture.

This is Beautiful!!
thank you

Nicest guy ever
I Uploaded my Focus Mitt video
Pretty good man
Great vid. I did a lot of grappling when I was younger - including judo as a kid and found Baguazhang incredibly smart when it came to the whole clinch concept. Amazing how the basics of Bagua have so much depth to them. Love it. :)
@ketteringabc He's a pro, 17-2 is his record. Not only is he a hell of a boxer but he is a great guy too. He just beet the #3 world ranked fighter july 15th in Atlanta. You'll be hearing alot about him soon enough i can promise you that
@vietgangstas359 nah Luis is better, and a hell of alot better of a guy too
Very nice!
@M1st3rPr3s1d3nt yeah.. he makes it look "easy" doesn't he? but it's anything BUT easy to do that lol.
@masterbigeats I like the fingers that way for a very good reason. It is very true that the version taught by Park and Glenn keeps the fingers close together. I have Glenn Wright's name on the video because he was my first bagua teacher and a fine man. He taught me good stuff and I have been experimenting with it and growing with it for over a decade.
@masterbigeats Of course this is not Glenn Wright haha. Glenn is much older than me and is African-American :D Also Glenn doesn't put things on youtube and is not really super technological! As I said very clearly in the video description I was originally taught the solo version of this exercise by Glenn. I've since developed it with my own bagua research. As far as "knowing crap about the Bagua of master Lu Shui Tien" you are quite right. I know *nothing* about Lu's bagua. I never met him.
Wonderful. Thanks for posting. I studied Gao Style long ago and attended some seminars with Luo De Xiu. This will help me a lot. A great teacher and nice guy.
Serious mitt work.. for sure..good shit
Nice vid!! This is real mitt work. Im tired of MM
Luo Dexiu and Xu Hong Ji /Hsu Hong Chi were both senior students of the same bagua/xingyi teacher Hung Yi-Xian. So Mike Patterson is Luo's gungfu nephew.
Ok, I would like to take this opportunity to explan poistion on my own style. While I like Yin fu Ba Kua I do not share his very extraigant claims of Xie Pie zi. I am luckly effort to have studied a number of other sysytems to and have friends of mine in Cheng style Ba kua and Cheng style Tai Chi, and not so arrogant as some people from the Yin fu Ba kua schools. I like talking to other poeple about there understanding of Ba Kua and internal Martial arts. Edwin
That spine alignment for that exercise is typical for that drill in the line/school it comes from. Different schools have different ideas about the upright spine. Look at He Jinghan's Yin mother palms form for example. Thanks for the comment.
Your leaning forward too much. Your weight should be more centered. Your spine should be more upright
One of the most realistic punch mit videos I've seen. I much prefer this to the mayweather style.
Good job, had a good beat going. Never really practiced elbows like that even though I've seen it a few times. Is the downward motion more for fluidity or do you believe it's more effective?
baaaaaad ass!
xing yi
I do the same drill but I have my fighters roll with the block than come back with leverage punching
Hey how long do you do that before you stab yourself in the thigh ? ? ? The workout on the speed bag is very good, and your control in the video was excellant ! ! ! Paulie D'
not bad at all. if he would distribute his weight better while punchin he would be a lot faster and punch a lot harder. he doesn't turn his hips enough when he punches which makes him rely on his arm strength when he punches. over all good tho
Thanks for sharing.
nice workout, u should make a tutorial vid, if u do send me a message, because i would really like to learn those drills. Nice video man!!
your with a good boxing trainer. he looks like he knows what he is talking about. keep up the great work
i totally agree...you should be sweating even when doing tai chi because you have to challenge your root by getting down...well it makes me sweat at least.
That's what happens when you work hard at something. It's an absolute falacy that you shouldn't sweat whilst vigorously performing internal arts. If you don't you probably need to practice harder.
excellent movement. Obviously well trained. Bravo.
Great video
Mike is a beast you got that right... but the channel operator (i.e. me) is the kali instructor.. not the coach working the mitts (that's Jeff Thomas the head boxing coach). Thanks for the comment bro.
i studied with a guy name Marcus in boulder CO. Who was luo's head student ,I never met luo but what i learned form Marcus is the best stuff ive ever study.his Xing Y is excellent too.
I went to a seminar with Luo. Man, he's really next level in terms of skill. Great character too. Very humble, and humorous at times :D
ilove this art & this movie preciselyand iwish i could also have it in DVD coz its a pain repeating the video tape over and over everytime i wish to practise, so ifboth tapes "the principle of Gao-Bagua fighting" and "Gao-Baguazhang applications" are available also in DVD please email me at johnpierre.chalouhi at gmail . com in hope of finally start having a great teacher soon.
Please post the latter four palms. Luo Dexiu is awesome. :)
I've been doing Gao style bagua for 2 months now. Not only it looks good, but it's also very effective in combat too :D
Kenjiro, it's Luo Dexiu, one of Hong Yixiang's top students, along with Su Dongchen and Xu Hongji... There's not many ppl in the world who can do bagua as well as him... Can you? Post a vid pls :)
Kenjiro, Luo bears the standard for his branch of Gao... and is advanced enough that if he is doing something.. you can safely assume he has a very good reason for doing it. You might try practicing more and looking, not for flaws, but for helpful hints in his performance that may assist in your own training.
Apparently he's gotten much better since this was filmed, which is a bit scary. :)
