That being said we switched to our Third Political Party System in 1850 during the Civil War where the Republicans emerged as the anti-slavery party in place of the Whigs. Their view during the 3rd political party system (which lasted from 1850-1892) aren't the same as our 6th and 7th political party systems (which have lasted from the 1980's up till now). The person commenting probably doesn't even remember the 5th or 6th political party systems that's how young they are...
