    I’m curious what powder and COAL you guys ran on this load. Please share if you can. I’m trying staball match, varget, and cfe 223 and seeing weird data in hornadys manual for this pill. 2.140 seems way to deep for this ELD style bullet.

    I have the wooden stock 6.5 Creedmoor version of the T3 with the 22-inch barrel. I really don't care about the weight difference as much as the ballistics and better stock right out of the box. I shoot the 143-grain hornady ELDX precision hunter ammo with the Leopold ballistic-specific scope that has a yard-specific reticle. The yard specific reticle eliminates the need for cheat sheets or memorizing the yardage in the field. The cost for a gunsmith to thread the barrel is $150-$200. Since I already have the 22-inch barrel, I don't need the added velocity with my silencer. I use a fabric-style comb on the stock much like yours. I have a bipod on it and a sling. I plan on replacing the plastic trigger guard, clip, and plastic on the end of the bolt. While this will not enhance the ballistics, it will prevent breakage in the field. This is a tack driver out to 500 yards. Im taking it bear hunting in 2 weeks.

    Sometimes I hear stories of hunters tracking deer and looking for blood trails through swamps. My mentor taught me to break the deer down; just like you had mentioned. Now he’s eighty-two and I’m retired. Barnes TTSX are my preferred bullets. Recently I deliberately harvested a buck for a friend who wanted a batch of summer sausage. When I dropped the buck at the processor the lady checking me in was helping me drag the deer into the cold locker. She said, “You know this deer would produce a little more sausage if you hadn’t smashed both shoulders!” Sometimes your training just can’t be denied.

  • @308blr2
    @308blr2 Před 29 dny

    Thank you for your testing and the video. I’ve used Barnes all copper for about twenty years in muzzle loaders and center fire hunting rifles. The bullet has always completely penetrated a whitetail deer. One entered the right shoulder and exited the left ham. Expansion isn’t always my primary concern; rather full penetration through bone and muscle tissue is what I’m seeking. I figure a whitetail without skeletal stability can’t run; and a whitetail with a hole through both sides of its diaphragm can’t keep its lungs inflated. A deer that can’t breathe can’t run, at least not far. If I planned to regularly hunt game animals past three hundred yards with a .308 Winchester round, I would probably load Barnes LRX. All of that said, I believe the .30-06 and the large case .308s will be where the TTSX expands at four hundred yards and beyond. It might be possible for a ballistician to get the .30-06 to nearly 3,400 fps; and it’s performance would likely be ideal at those longer ranges. My opinion is that you can cater your cartridge and bullet to the game and range you intend to be harvesting at. If I intended to stay within 300 yards on game then I would select a .308 Winchester, a .30-06 would suit me better for out to .300, and I would be cramming powder into a Weatherby or Nosler .30 caliber if I planned to take most of my game at 500 yards. Otherwise I would call on experience and ethics as to whether or not I feel confident. I love that you keep our grey matter churning with these projects.

    I’ve shot 14 deer with the 95 grain 6mm SST. With it I’ve taken frontal shots, spine shots, quartering in and away, and broadside. Out of a 6mm Remington with 3,000fps muzzle velocity I’ve only recovered one bullet and it was from a broadside shot that shattered both shoulders and was recovered under the hide on the offside with 57grains retained weight. Water may not have painted this bullet in the most flattering light but deer sure do. I’ve used the 150 SST out of a 30-06 and a 130 out of a .270 and all of them have been pass throughs with phenomenal terminal performance inside the chest cavity. I really appreciate yalls testing and it’s excellent for some reason the SST just didn’t show today maybe try it some more before you write it off for good. Keep up the testing guys!

    Maybe? acceptable at 100 yards? Definitely a bullet made for the 22 creedmoor, 22 ARC, or 224 Valkyrie! I’ve used the 70 grain TSX in 5.56 on pronghorn out to about 150 yards. I would be more leery about energy at longer ranges in the 223 than perhaps expansion. I’m currently using the 62 grain TTSX in 223, but haven’t shot any game with it yet.

Saying that , these bullet WILL not match an SMK for drops ect.. So re-check that data if your handloading
